Last Year’s Guns

While the Kid’s out at the range, I’ll take up Alphecca’s meme asking what guns we took into our homes and hearts this past year.

For me, the year was bookended by Weatherbys, both of which are going to Boomershoot 2006. That’s at least three left-handed rifles shooting Weatherby cartridges that will be there. (Wonder if Benjamin will let me try out his .340 Weatherby….)

Warning, lots of gun pr0n below the fold….

There’s hope for him yet

One of my pleasures is the writings of Wil Wheaton. (Yes, long ago he played the annoying kid on Star Trek: The Next Generation — but he’s turned out to be a decent writer. Really!)

Thankfully, he doesn’t write about politics very often, because where that’s concerned he tends to spout a combination of froth and lefty talking points. He got a bit of a wake-up call this Christmas.

Briefly, Wil and his father had a death-penalty spat about Tookie Williams, and Wil’s response was to write what was essentially a hit piece on his parents — calling them “RNC talking-points pod people,” among other things — and he published it at Salon.com without running it by his folks first. Hey, he’s young. Naturally, they were hurt, and when Wil’s Mom gently pointed this out to him, to Wil’s (minimal) credit, he did a mea culpa, had a long heart-to-heart with his parents, and wrote a long blog post to straighten things out. He did a good job on it, though.

I almost can’t contain myself!

I get to finally go to the range today!

No more posting for me.

UPDATE: Too bad I quit smoking. I almost need a cigarette after five hours of that.

The Soundboard: Wake Up Music

On Thursday I posted tunage for you to play tonight. Today I am posting music for you to play tomorrow.

I love a New Years Eve party as much as the next guy, but before I started woking nights regularly I usually liked to hit the rack for some shut-eye around 2AM or so.

In the past, long before I met the Analog Wife, I used to live in an apartment where my fellow tenants didn’t really need a reason to party, so when the week after Christmas came around, you’d have thought it was Mardi Gras or something, them wanting to “Party On, Til the Break of Dawn” and I couldn’t stand that because I always had to work the next morning. They’d be out in the building’s courtyard with fireworks, screaming, yelling, fighting, etc, until five or six in the morning.

But I put the time they wouldn’t let me sleep to good use.

I’m sure you’ve all heard of a ‘Bachelor’s Stereo’. It is usually some monstrosity with waaaay too many watts and waaaay too many speakers, well I had a grandady of one (2500 Watts, a mix of Polk, Kenwood and Aiwa, with six full range towers, one full range bar and dual 600 Watt subs)(I got it shortly before Jurassic Park came out on VHS. My neighbors knew when the TRex was chasing someone). I would spend the three hours that I should have been sleeping setting them in the windows.

About two hours after things would finally calm down, I’d play some special tunes for them, such as

The Drummer’s Call – The Black Watch

to get their attention. Then I’d fire up something totally obnoxious like

The Broadsword Medley – The Black Watch

When the police would arrive for the fifth disturbance call that night at my building, they usually just stood against their car until the medley was over and drove away. Cops like pipers.

Some advice

On the last day of 2005

159517.gif

As we ascend and close the door on 2005, make sure that you do not end up against a wall or spread to far in 2006.

And definitely do not sleep through it.

Have a safe new years celebration. Please, whatever you do, do not drink and drive. Drinking and driving convictions can lead to jail time and they have their own definition of ‘Booty’ there.

What, No Goodbye?

Local left wing headcase and talk radio show host at 710 KIRO AM, Mike Webb, is no longer on the air. This was not of his choosing, Webb was fired after being charged with filing a fraudulent insurance claim, a felony.

(stops and waits for cheers to die down)

It was a sudden departure that blended well with a proposed Christmas vacation he was taking to entertain visiting family. I only found out Wednesday night, though it seems that this drama had been going on for a bit longer.

Liberal radio talk-show host Mike Webb has been fired from his job at KIRO radio after he was charged earlier this month with making a fraudulent insurance claim.

Webb was charged with making a fraudulent claim after an accident in June 2005, when his Lexus was struck by an uninsured driver.

According to charging papers filed in King County Superior Court, Webb is alleged to have produced a forged document indicating he bought an insurance policy with Geico before the June 28th accident. The insurance company claimed that Webb, 50, bought the policy online one day after the accident and denied coverage of the nearly $6,000 damage.

I hope it becomes a fad

After Abu Ghraib, the hip thing for lefties to do to impress their friends was to dress up as the guy in the hood on the box with wires taped to their fingers.

I hope this inspires them to flatter the guy who tried to do what every anti-Bushie wants to do by imitating him,

Vladimir Arutunyan is accused of throwing a hand grenade at President Bush and Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili while they were addressing a public audience on Freedom Square in central Tbilisi on May 10. The grenade did not explode.

Arutuynan was arrested in Tbilisi on July 20 after a shootout with Georgian police that resulted in the death of Col. Zurab Kvlividze, the head of the Georgian Interior Ministry’s counterintelligence department.

The defendant came to the court hearing on Tuesday with his mouth sewed up. He claimed earlier his rights were violated.

C’mon, Oliver Willis (Occupation: Toole), you know you want to do this!

Wish for Peace

Without getting off your ass!

It’s the “Sit for Change Meditation Marathon!

Sit For Change brings together the practice of meditation with the promotion of peace, compassion and respect for human dignity. This 10-day “meditation marathon” kicks off on December 21. Registration and fundraising are now underway! It’s an opportunity for you – whatever your faith or meditation experience – to join with thousands of other people around the world in raising awareness and funds for charities focused on human rights, families, the environment and the benefits of meditation. On December 31, we’ll celebrate at local gatherings and via the web with a live international broadcast.

It’s the perfect exercise for lefties as they can hope for hours on end without actually doing anything and get money for it!

Meditation has proven physical, mental and spiritual benefits. Meditating and engaging as part of a worldwide community in Sit for Change will help create personal and social transformation because:

Collective meditation strengthens the ground for global compassion and humanity.

The scale of the event focuses international awareness on the power of combining contemplative practice with social transformation.

The funds raised support major organizations working for positive change.

And just who are these funds going to, you may ask; Environmentalist rag ‘Grist Magazine’, Amnesty International and The Sierra Club, among others.

While I know I shouldn’t mock people of any faith, I really feel I need to here because not only is it fun, but I can guarantee you that these people are not meditating on stopping the mass murder and dreams of an Islamic Earth at all costs by the Islamofascists, no, they’re meditating on stopping the Bush Administration spreading democracy in Iraq.

New Poll

Jim Treacher had a poll up asking for opinions as to the replacement phrase for the term “Fake But Accurate, which he found a little tiresome.

I, like Aaron at the FreeWillBlog, chose “Differently Authentic like 702 other voters, making it the winner, even though he didn’t think it had the same ring to it.

Having worked in the ‘Transportation of People with Disabilities’ industry for a couple years, I can just picture one of my former riders (who was proud to be “Differently Abled and would bark the phrase out to no apparent audience) saying it, after which I cannot stop laughing.

As Trecher says “Adjust your mindset accordingly”

RNS Quote of the Day

World War I led not to ‘Democracy’ but to the creation of three dictatorships: Soviet Russia, Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany. World War II led, not to ‘Four Freedoms’, but to the surrender of one-third of the world’s population into communist slavery.

If peace were the goal of today’s intellectuals, a failure of that magnitude – and the evidence of unspeakable suffering on so large a scale – would make them pause and check their statist premises. Instead, blind to everything but their hatred for capitalism, they are now asserting that “Poverty Breeds Wars.

But the question is: What Breeds Poverty?

If you look at the world of today and if you look back at history, you will see the answer: The degree of a country’s freedom is the degree of its prosperity.
