The Door

As to yesterday’s question about the door mis-install:

I had 32 responses, with 4 people getting very close, but only one person nailing it.

That person would be TKDKerry. Congratulations!

(Update: Late entry Aaron got it as well)

I had planned on taking more pictures for clarification on some points that folks had brought up in their emails, but I had to rush out of the house to sign paperwork on a new firearm acquisition before going to work and promptly forgot to bring the camera to work with me (the new firearm will make its debut next week after I take it to the range this weekend).

So I’ll be clarifying some of the questions about the door below the fold and giving out some clues too and giving everyone another shot at having a giggle at my employer’s expense.

RNS Quote of the Day

If a small group of men were always regarded as guilty, in any clash with any other group, regardless of the issues or circumstances involved, would you call it persecution? If this group were always made to pay for the sins, errors or failures of any other group, would you call that persecution? If this group had to live under a silent reign of terror, under special laws, from which all other people were immune, laws which the accused could not grasp or define in advance and which the accuser could interpret in any way he pleased – would you call that persecution? If this group were penalized, not for its faults, but for its virtues, not for its incompetence, but for its ability, not for its failures, but for its achievements, and the greater the achievement, the greater the penalty – would you call that persecution?

If your answer is “yes, then ask yourself what sort of monstrous injustice you are condoning, supporting or perpetrating. That group is the American businessman.

Is there an engineer in the house?

It’s new budget time at work and they’re already spending the money.

The first purchases were three new entry doors to the supervisor’s cubicle area. All three of them were exactly like this door.

P1030002.JPG

And all three of them were installed in the same manner (click the pic for a larger version)

My challenge for the engineers (and wannabe engineers) out there is to tell me what is wrong about the installation.

You will know you got it right when you see it and laugh to yourself.

I have shut the comments for this post off because I don’t want anyone to give it away. This challenge will run until someone gets it right or I get tired of waiting (probably Friday, though I don’t think it’ll take that long for someone to get it).

You can email your answers to: randomnuclearstrikes (at) gmail (dot) com

I haven’t thought of a prize yet or even if there is going to be one. If you laughed like I did when I saw the problem with the installation, that’ll be a prize in and of itself.

UPDATE: We have a winner!

On another note, Holy Shit! I’ve never gotten so much email in one day.

And on a third note, I needed to take a better picture. Most folks were close but if my photography was a bit better, they might have gotten it.

Let me get it all sorted out tonight and I’ll post the results tomorrow.

Now I have to get one

Why gunbloggergeeks kick ass.

My guess is that his first self-appointed task is to pistol whip that whiny C3PO.

RNS Quote of the Day

Another current statist catch phrase is the complaint that the nations of the world are divided into the “Haves and the “Have-Nots. Observe that the “Haves are those who have freedom, and that it is freedom that the “Have-Nots have not.

Ayn Rand: The Roots of War – 1966

And this finishes out the set of quote I’ve taken from her essay ‘The Roots of War’. Tomorrow we’ll start in on her essay ‘America’s Persecuted Minority’. I think you’ll be surprised at who she is talking about.

Or maybe not.

Hypocrisy

It is the blood that flows in the veins of Washington State liberals.

You’ll remember the state budget ‘surplus’ of $1.4 Billion dollars that I spoke of last week, well now that it is out in the open, one smart legislator has decided that getting rid of the $5 parking fee at our state parks would be a good idea.

As I also mentioned last week, the Washington State Parks Dept. hasn’t been fully funded in a good many years. They were always told that ‘the money just isn’t there’ as the state went on to pay for ridiculous things like stadiums and new departments with hundreds of new employees, so when the parks started barking about not having enough money, a $5 parking fee was instituted, making park rangers have to divert time from other duties to become parking lot attendants.

Park attendance took a nose dive the following year and the trend has continued ever since, so what with the state supposedly being flush with cash, someone in the legislature actually used their head and thought to get rid of the fee.

Oddly enough, or maybe not so oddly, someone at the Northwest Progressive Institute and I agree on dumping the fee. I don’t like the state’s “quickie tax and they are probably tired of having to make sure they have small bills on them when they go to see the furry animals who don’t live at the zoo.

Andrew at the NPI blog has this to say,

“The parking fees need to be eliminated. The user fees hit our state’s poorest citizens the hardest – and that’s wrong. The fees need to go.â€?

And then the hypocrisy kicks in, because in the same post at NPI’s blog, Andrew goes completely off on our state’s instigator of the initiatives that attempted to make it reasonable to license a vehicle in Washington State, Tim Eyman, when Eyman shot his mouth off and spoke out against reducing the park fees.

Basically, Andrew at NPI wants no park fees because they ‘hurt the poor’, but he doesn’t mind making a single mother pay $150 to license her car instead of $30 because, well, I’m at a loss there actually.

I don’t speak hypocrite very well.

Andrew is full of hatred as most liberals, oops, I mean ‘Progressives’ are. They run this state, but they still feel persecuted when someone tries to slow down their money train like Eyman does.

Eyman may be a world class idiot most of the time (he shoots off his mouth regularly and got caught taking money from his own organization), but he knows that ignorant tax structures set voters off and that they’ll usually vote in their own best interest against them.

Andrew, on the other hand, knows exactly what is best for Washington and is willing to stuff it down our throats, no matter how much it hurts us.

“Government is not reason. Government is not eloquence. It is force. And, like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.”

I survived 2005

And because I spent 2005 working at my trade, earning my own sustenance so that I could expand my choices of where I live, I didn’t even have to play any piper music this morning!

But I did anyway, just not out the windows.

Isn’t liberty great!

Anyway, I’m not much for predictions other than to say that I’m going strive to make my life even better in 2006 and I suspect that you will be doing the same.

As for resolutions, I’ve already quit smoking, what the hell else am I going to do?

From me to you, have a wonderful 2006 and I’ll keep blogging along so long as y’all keep stopping by.

Happy New Year Residents of King County

There is one less dirtbag in the county and he gave you a present.

A standoff with police closed state Highway 167 from Friday night until Saturday morning and ended with a man dead.

Following up on a tip, Renton police approached two cars in a hotel parking lot. A man in one took off running with two officers in pursuit. According to Penny Bartley, spokeswoman for Renton police, the man and police both fired guns. The man hid in a swampy area next to 167. Eventually more than 40 law-enforcement officers were on the scene, as was a King County Sheriff’s helicopter.

The exchange of fire continued, but police don’t believe they hit the man. When morning came, police found the man, who was not identified, dead from a gunshot. Police believe it was self-inflicted.

Sadly, the Seattle Times did not give us a present and I’ll have to fill in some information here.

First off, it was around 2300 on Friday night that they closed the freeway until sometime around 1000 Saturday morning. Next, it wasn’t just a state highway that they closed, they also shut down part of Interstate 405 where it and Hwy 167 intersect. For those who are unfamiliar with the greater Seattle area, if you’ve been to so-cal and know of their I-405, ours is as important a bloodline for traffic as it is the only way to get around the atrocious I-5 traffic snarl that is downtown Seattle.

Also, the officers were already on the scene making buy/busts for drugs and prostitution when this jackass just walked up and started firing into the crowd of officers. Not a very smart move. The officers shot back, but the guy kept moving, crossing the interstate and going into a water run-off area full of aspen trees. After losing him in the aspen, Renton PD requested the King County Sheriff’s Office million dollar flashlight “Guardian One helicopter.

They finally spotted him and got him pinned down in the woods and he sat there for hours, occasionally taking shots at random cars and the helicopter. There were no good shots available from either the nearby hotel or the car dealership, so they just waited him out.

A couple hours after dawn, the bird reported that he didn’t look like the guy was moving much so they went in and found him dead.

Thank you, unnamed criminal puke, for not making me have to spend my tax dollars on sending your useless ass to trial.

It’s a Brand Spanking New Year

And with it, I have some more Professor Booty style advice to give to you.

I don’t believe in looking back too often. This is because you may miss what is right in front of you.

And unlike money, more booty does not always cause more problems.

Have a wonderful 2006!
