We Call Leftists “Criminal Enablers” For A Reason

Only ‘best residents’ to be allowed back in St. Thomas complex

U.S. Housing Secretary Alphonso Jackson shed little light Monday on the future of public housing in hurricane-battered New Orleans, but said that “only the best residents” of the former St. Thomas housing complex should be allowed into the new mixed-income development that replaced it.
…
“Some of the people shouldn’t return,” Jackson said. “The (public housing) developments were gang-ridden by some of the most notorious gangs in this country. People hid and took care of those persons because they took care of them. Only the best residents should return. Those who paid rent on time, those who held a job and those who worked.”

Sounds logical, right?

If certain people were never on time with their rent and/or refused to hold continuous employment, threatened their neighbors, sold drugs or otherwise made trouble for the neighborhood, why should they be let back into this public housing project at tax payer expense?

But this is more ‘anti-poor bias’ from the Bush Administration, according to SusanG, upper eschalon Klueless Kos Kid.

She seems to think that any and all who were in the system before should just be allowed to mosey right back on into these taxpayer funded individual shelters. She says that the gangs on the housing projects are a “law enforcement matter, not one for public housing“.

Maybe she should tell that to the good, hard working people who lived in the St. Thomas complex and were afraid to go out after dark or who had their vehicles broken into or their TV stolen. I think she may have forgotten how corrupt the law enforcers in NOLA we’re before, during and after Katrina, which is probably how the gangs thrived in the project in the first place.

But what can I say, she’s a ‘progressive’. I guess keeping the gangs out of the projects would be putting them out of ’employment’ and keep them from earning their ‘regular income’.

Good News/Bad News

To get it out of the way, we’ll start with the bad news:

Part I: I was supposed to have this week (and the next one) off for Boomershoot, but alas, I am unable to attend due to a poorly timed move of residence.

RNS co-poster, David, was also supposed to be going to Boomershoot, but his profession decided that it was not to be.

So here at RNS you have two rather avid shooters who cannot go the premier long distance rifle shooting event in the NW. I’m doing my best to stay upbeat about being able to attend next year, but it’s not really helping.

Part II: Thursday’s regular feature ‘The Soundboard’ will be moved to Friday, in honor of the first day of the Precision Rifle Clinic/sight-in.

Which brings me to the things that are helping keep the spriits up (aka The Good News):

Part I: I am still taking all of next week off. I know the Analog Wife has plans for me, but I will, come hell or high water, squeeze some trigger time in somewhere in there. I don’t quite know when, but at least a couple of days. So if’n you have a range nearby and are pretty sure I haven’t been to it, send me an email or leave a comment with a good email addy and we’ll see if we can whip something up for a mid-week visit to “The Church of the Holy High-Speed Projectile”.

Part II: There will be a Blogger Blastorama on Saturday, May 6th.

blastoramalogo2ath.jpg

Bloggers, commentors and lurkers alike are invited to bring themselves and their safe firearms handling skills to Sam’s Indoor Range in Everett from 10am to whenever we run out of ammo or our trigger-fingers get tired. Mr. Completely has said he’ll be attending and I’m hoping that KeeWee will be there also.

First time shooters are expressly welcome, so long as you bring your common sense and good listening skills with you.

I’ll get the address posted here in the near future, but it’s just west of the intersection of Airport and Hwy 99 to give you some bearings to work with.

I am also looking for a place for some pre-range session eatin’, so if you’re local to Everett/Lynnwood and know of something nearby, also email me or leave a comment.

Think “truck stop food”. Greasy spoons don’t scare me.

It has been far too long since the last one, and ever much more too long since the one before that. It’s time we got that taken care of. I used to hold them every 3-4 weeks, but with my current schedule, I won’t be able to do that. I can easily see every 6-8 weeks though.

More Rumor

Lee at Right Thinking has a link to a CNN report that talks about FOX radio host Tony Snow ascending into McClellan’s old job as White House Press Secretary.

I had thought the rumors of Snow being a candidate were pure rumor and passed them off as such. This is either some good misinformation or some good news. While I’m usually asleep during his show, the bits I have caught were pretty decent and we know that he can talk the talk (and he has quite the opinion of Helen Thomas).

The entirety of the left and the media (Redundancy Alert!) already believes that FOX is the White House’s propaganda organ, but if Snow actually moves into the spot, that could be a whole news cycle in and of itself.

I don’t think I have used the term “Sh*t Purple Twinkies” in describing media reaction, but I think that it would fit here,

The spam attack seems to be over and I’ll be setting the controls back to normal.

My apologies if it caused anyone from leaving a comment, but turning them up caught 452 spams in under two days.

What say ye?

There is a question near the end of this, but as I need to give some background on the question, this post is a bit lengthy. If you have your history thinking cap on, head on below the fold.

I can hardly wait

For the ‘Letters to the Editor’ that will flood into the Seattle Times for printing Jonah Goldberg’s column this morning titled “Al Gore’s environmental jihad”.

Meet Al Gore, scaremonger. In 2004, Gore denounced President Bush for “playing on our fears.” Today, he is at the forefront of a “green scare” about global warming intended to terrify Americans into submitting to his environmental policies.

And that is just the first paragraph.

The Seattlite greenweenies, or at least the ones who can read, should already be writing in to the paper demanding that ‘their side be heard (nevermind that their side is heard ever single day).

I fully expect one of the Times’ own eco-freaks to write a rebuttal full of hyperbole and environmental half-truths int he next couple days, and when, not if, my prediction is fulfilled, I will link to it here for y’all to giggle at.

My only question is if you want the letters printed or just linked to?

Oh sure, NOW they care.

Anyone who has been wandering around the blogosphere for any length of time remembers the attack in Fallujia that killed the four Blackwater contractors whose body parts were paraded around and then their charred corpses hung from the bridge near where the attack on their vehicle happened.

You probably also remember the reaction from the left, and namely, Markos Moultas Zuniga (aka Kos). His “Screw Them” remark showed anyone who was willing to pay attention just what the left thought of their fellow Americans trying to secure the freedom of the Iraqi people, be they in or out of uniform. The reactions from his readers and the sycophantic leftist websites were supportive of Kos’ disregard of the men, their families and everything those men were fighting for.

So now the families of some of the contractors are suing the Blackwater company for the men’s ‘wrongful death’ and the Klueless Kos Kids are all over it, celebrating the idea that one of the largest securities companies in the US will have to go in front of a judge.

Not a single word about how the actual people responsible for the deaths of those four men, the Fallujia insurgents who danced over the dead bodies, was included in either the linked news story, the post over at dKos, or the comments on the post.

Typical.

Got Gas?

A couple weeks back when I was talking about extending Grimm’s fuel supply, RNS reader Dagamore stopped by and mentioned bed-mounted combination toolbox/fuel tanks.

I’ve heard about them and even seen a few in the past, but at that time, they hadn’t crossed my mind. So, having the world’s greatest research tool, quite literally at my fingertips, I went a-searchin.

This is the Google results page. The first page alone contains just about all the info you’ll ever need on these items. Be warned, they’re pricey; ranging from around $600 to the $2K range, depending on what you’re looking for.

I have, unfortunately, had to discount this idea altogether as Grimm’s backpack is already 10ft long and sticking it out any further would be a safety issue. However, if you were thinking of doing something similar for your SHTF plans, an 18in deep fuelcell/toolbox combo would fit quite comfortably, and safely, in the bed in front of the camper with only a minimal amount hanging off the back.

So go take a look and see if one of them will work for you.

Cali vs. Iraq

Victor Davis Hanson compares the two. California doesn’t come off so well.

Goin’ to the SHTF Store

So I open up my local paper this Sunday morning to see a full-page ad for the GRAND OPENING!!! of

“Your Safety Place. A new store in Dublin [the town a couple of exits away from me] that makes getting ready for an earthquake (or any emergency) fast and simple.”

They’ve got 3-day emergency kits from fanny-pack to BOB to 4-person kit-in-a-bucket, all reasonably priced. Dog & cat 3-day survival kits for $69.99. Earthquake-proofing supplies (now I won’t have to hunt around for that museum wax to secure my breakables). Baby safety stuff, including child-locator radios. Fire protection. Security systems. Power generators.

Is this a sign of the times, or what?

Well, now, I’ve just got to pay them a visit, even if it’s just to pick up some museum wax and strapping for my bookcases.

Anybody else see one of these stores in your neighborhood? There’s no indication that this is a chain, but they do have a snazzy logo.
