A couple weeks back when I was talking about extending Grimm’s fuel supply, RNS reader Dagamore stopped by and mentioned bed-mounted combination toolbox/fuel tanks.
I’ve heard about them and even seen a few in the past, but at that time, they hadn’t crossed my mind. So, having the world’s greatest research tool, quite literally at my fingertips, I went a-searchin.
This is the Google results page. The first page alone contains just about all the info you’ll ever need on these items. Be warned, they’re pricey; ranging from around $600 to the $2K range, depending on what you’re looking for.
I have, unfortunately, had to discount this idea altogether as Grimm’s backpack is already 10ft long and sticking it out any further would be a safety issue. However, if you were thinking of doing something similar for your SHTF plans, an 18in deep fuelcell/toolbox combo would fit quite comfortably, and safely, in the bed in front of the camper with only a minimal amount hanging off the back.
So go take a look and see if one of them will work for you.
