Egyptian exchange students missing on way to MSU

Eleven Egyptian students who arrived in the United States last month are being sought by authorities after failing to turn up for an exchange program at Montana State University.

The Egyptian men were among a group of 17 students who arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York from Cairo on July 29 with valid visas, according to U.S. authorities and university officials.

The ICE is refusing to make their names public and Agent Kolko says “There is no threat associated with these men“, before telling us that they reside in the middle of the prime jihadi age range and are running around unfettered somewhere in the USA.Nothing to see here. Keep moving. Hey, look over there Britney Spears!

Welcome

In the blue corner, Jacob Andrew

DCP_0018.JPG

Born Thursday, weighing in at 6lbs and 10oz and a height of 20 inches. Fighting the good fight.

In the pink corner, every single liberal in the world. They will attempt to make a wuss out of him.

But they forget that he’s got a secret weapon: A set of loving parents (and having three older brothers to teach you tricks isn’t a bad weapon either).

Misguided

A couple weeks back, I followed a link from the Heartless Libertarian’s place to a blog posting on a subject that is very near and dear to a number of folks whom I know and respect. I, however, cannot find one single reason to agree with them on this topic.

This topic is the so-called “Fair Tax”.

I posted my point-by-point comment on the topic at the other blog, and was chided for being too stupid to see how good an idea the “Fair Tax” was. For reasons unknown to me, I was either blacklisted or am otherwise moderated in the comments section. No comment I attempt to post there show up after I hit the ‘Submit’ button.

At first I thought that maybe they closed off the comments section to keep spammers out and that I had returned too late to respond. But a couple of days later I was still receiving emails of other folks’ comments because I ‘subscribed’ to the thread, so I knew that wasn’t the case. I sent off emails asking why I had blacklisted/moderated, and after nearly a week, I have still gotten no response.

So today, I am going to expand on my previous thoughts on the “Fair Tax”.

If you would like to read the other blog’s post, you will have to click through the Heartless Libertarian’s place to get there because I refuse to link to a blog that claims to be about liberty, and then proceeds to shut down folks who disagree with them.

I expect to have my comments ignored or to be otherwise moderated at liberal and/or ‘progressive’ blogs, after visiting them for more than four years. But when someone says they stand for the fair exchange of ideas and then cuts off a person with significant points opposite of theirs, it kind of ‘harshes my mellow’.

I am sure that if you are even an on the fence “Fair Tax” supporter, your sensibilities may get insulted here. But that is OK, because unlike at the other blog, we can discuss that here.

This post will go beyond my previous objections to the “Fair Tax” which consisted of the plan basing the entirity US economy on the Consumer Confidence Index and will show the plan as being a combination of the worst parts of socialism and ‘big L’ Libertarianism combined.

While I will be trying to stay away from using the hyperbole and name-calling used at the other blog, I cannot guarantee it 100%. I will, however, be bringing things like “Logic” and “Reason” into the discussion to try and offset those habits of mine.

So, if you’ll follow me below the fold. Don’t forget your popcorn.

I’m wondering

What with the new rules at the Arlington, TX schools

Texas School District Bans Cleavage

Are the faculty also going to be policing the inevitable “Plumber’s Crack”?

I mean, I feel sorry for the males losing their eye candy and all, but if the females are going to still be subjected to he plunging rear waist lines whenever one of the school’s defensive linemen drops something, then that is just unfair.

As for the student quoted in the story talking about the new rule making ‘Back to School Shopping’ more difficult, I can only assume that she buys her clothes at “Strippers ‘R’ Us” and “Ho-Bag Mart”.

A quick explanation

I’ve gotten a few emails asking why I haven’t said anything about the probability of fidel castro’s having assumed room temperature.

I must say that, every time I see a story such as this one

Surgeons fought for hours to save Castro’s life

I want to run out into the front yard and begin celebrating profusely, after which, I will blog it. But what with the frequency of these stories, and their tendancy to be wrong so far we know it, I’m not about to start yakking about it here until I have positive confirmation. When it happens, I will probably only post one “Farewell, You Murderous Bastard” post and then follow up with reactions from the American left.

If you really want the low-down on the showdown between fidel and the readiness of his hotel suite in hell, you shouldn’t be looking to this pasty white boy in Seattle (which is just about as far away from Cuba as you can get in the continental US).

My preferred source of news on this topic is our good man Val of the Babalu Blog. And it should be yours as well.

Life May Be “A Beach”

But when life becomes “A Beach”, you just need to get out on the water.

Not that Miss Kendra and I needed an excuse, mind you

Here’s Your Sign

The guy is asking for one in his lawsuit. How could I not use that post title?

An Oregon outdoors enthusiast is suing the federal government for not posting a danger warning next to a cliff in the Mount Hood National Forest.

Twenty-three-year-old Jerry Mersersau says he suffered mental anguish after trekking out in the dark to relieve himself and falling off a cliff in the national forest.

According to his lawsuit, Mersersau, who was not carrying a flashlight, fell about 20 to 30 feet onto a creek bed.

Mersersau charges that the government should have known that the cliff posed a danger to campers.

The guy wants a sign posted, telling people that there is an abrupt edge where he fell off.

And multiple millions of dollars for ‘Mental Anguish’.

Firstly, the guy didn’t have a flashlight, so I am supposing that he wants an electric powered, self-luminated sign posted there, because he surely wouldn’t have been able to see it if he couldn’t see the drop-off.

Secondly, he was in the process of committting a crime, relieving himself, off-the main trail and out of the campsite boundaries, I might add, which should negate any and all responsibility of the management of the National Park.

Lastly, the only sensible outcome to this suit should be the fed giving this guy a sign that reads “I’m not even smart enough to win a Darwin Award” to wear around his neck for the rest of his life, as well as a swift kick in the ass. At which time he should be laughed out of court, for laughter has been known to sooth ‘mental anguish’.

Your suggestions for other things this jackass’ sign might read are welcome in the comments section.

What is the first thing that goes through your mind

When you read this headline

Police Looking For Stolen Nuclear Device

My first thought was ‘Oh Shiznit!’. Because I was at work.

Then I clicked on the story and this is what popped up

Police in Renton are looking for a nuclear device that was inside a car that was stolen last month.

The device is inside a large yellow box with warning stickers on the outside.

The device looks like a scale. It’s 18 inches tall and is used to measure ground moisture.

The vehicle used to transport the device was found on July 21, but the device was not inside.

9624525.jpg

The device contains a small amount of radioactive material that isn’t even dangerous enough to harm the people who work with the instrument eight hours a day, five days a week, yet because of someone wanting to frighten the locals, it gets called an accurate but wholly frivolous “Nuclear Device”.

Someone at the TV station’s website was feeling like ‘Mama-Drama’ and decided to give folks a fright.

Thanks guys.

If I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard that phrase…

I’d have probably spent at least half of it on drinks with Miss Lucia
