Can I Get A “Hell Yeah!”

Or at least a “Whoop Whoop”?

Today the U.S. Supreme Court voted unanimously to overturn a recent Ninth Circuit decision barring the enforcement of an Arizona voter ID law. Enacted in 2004 by citizen initiative, the law required proof of citizenship for new voter registrations and photo identification at the polls. Both the Evergreen Freedom Foundation (EFF) and Secretary of State Sam Reed have recommended this law as a model for Washington to follow, and today’s decision underscores the legality of such requirements.

The Court chided the Ninth Circuit for acting without having all the proper facts, and for interfering right before a major election.

Regarding the merits of voter ID laws, the Court did not make a specific ruling but noted that: “Confidence in the integrity of our electoral processes is essential to the functioning of our participatory democracy. Voter fraud drives honest citizens out of the democratic process and breeds distrust of our government.”

How strange that it is the very people who claim to have no confidence in election results fighting to overturn this voter approved law.

In fact, the AP/Ipsos people took a poll which said

Vote count doubts strong in U.S., Italy, Mexico - Poll: Recent contested elections left voters feeling cheated

Count on close, contentious elections to stir up public distrust in the vote count.

That could be why people in the United States, Italy and Mexico had the lowest levels of confidence in the vote count among nine countries in AP-Ipsos polling taken just weeks before the U.S. midterm elections. Fewer than two-thirds in each of the three countries said they were confident the vote count would be accurate.

That’s lower than in the other countries polled – Canada, France, Germany, South Korea, Spain and the United Kingdom, where three-fourths or more in each country felt the vote count is accurate.

But no matter how they cry, and they will cry, the leftists can do nothing more about it.

They rely on the courts for their favorable rulings, it is about time the American citizenry got a decision in their favor.

I’m Back

Hello all, Professor Booty is in the building!

I really don’t have anything prepared for today as I was hoping I could talk the good Dr. Brest into doing this for one more week for me. Unfortunatley for me, was otherwise engaged.

I will hopefully have more time for a post for tomorrow, but as you can plainly see

I’m a bit occupado at this time.

The Daily Mail: A Parody – Day 3 “One More Time!”

UPDATE: OK, so dingleberry still isn’t happy and he will not stop contacting my hosting service, annoying them to no end. He is done with the “You stole my content” yakety and is now probably only pressing on because of hurt feelings about being called a humorless git.

So, what we’re going to do here is forget that subtley is one of the main keys to humor and completely drop all allusions to it. This post below, while being framed off of his bilious piece and containing a number of the same words and phrases, has been modified to the extent that he can no longer whine about it not being funny “To Him”. What is below, while not “teh funny” I was going for, should be funny to just about everyone.

Join me, won’t you? And if there is something you think needs to be added, please leave your suggestions in the comments section.

Pass / Fail

Is most likely how barely Governor of Washington Christine Gregoire decided to take her college level economics courses.

And this report by the Cato Institute shows the grades she probably got.

Excerpt from Sound Politics

Christine Gregoire, one of the worst new governors [sic] in the nation, was elected [sic] in 2004 in one of the closest and most contentious elections in Washington history–a controversial Palm Beach-style recount made her the winner [sic] of the gubernatorial race by only 129 votes [sic]. Famous for being the lead negotiator in the $206 billion shakedown of cigarette companies known as the 1998 multistate tobacco settlement, Gregoire quickly took aim at state taxpayers upon entering office. She’s raised multiple taxes already: the cigarette tax (by 42 percent), the gas tax (by 34 percent), the state’s liquor tax (by $1.33 a gallon). And she resurrected the estate tax, too. Gregoire even helped the legislature overturn the law that required a supermajority to raise taxes in the future. All of this to fuel her spending binge, which expanded the general fund budget by more than 8 percent in fiscal 2006 alone. Tax activists have placed a repeal of the estate tax on the ballot in Washington, and Gregoire has already stated her opposition. In the meantime, she was quick to propose new ways to spend the $1.6 billion budget surplus this year. With a legislature controlled by her own party, perhaps the only check on Gregoire’s big-government ambitions in years to come will be the usually feisty tax activists in the state.

I’m sure they’re only giving Bush a D or a D+, but I think I remember the Gregoire supporting leftists comparing him to a monkey.

So, would that make Gregoire a Three Toed Sloth?

RNS Quote of the Day: 10/20/06

From the AoSHQ

Ahem. It appears that pressure from the Chinese did the trick.

As was Bush’s intent.

This doesn’t resolve the crisis. But North Korea has been backed down by a country it actually fears — China.

Again, in case the liberals don’t understand:

The US can offer nothing but carrots to North Korea.

North Korea has taken carrots from the US before — from the Clinton Administration — and conducted nuclear research anyway.

What is needed now is sticks.

China can wield sticks against North Korea.

Like threatening to cut off oil and grain deliveries upon which North Korea depends for its very existence, for instance.

Ergo, only a negotiation in which China is participant is likely to change North Korea’s behavior.

Ergo, John Kerry and the rest of the kneejerk Bush-anklebiters who urged bilateral talks — which would offer no sticks — were, despite their towering genius, wrong.

Our Liberals Are Crazier Than Their Liberals

The liberal/progressive left has been screaming for years about raising the national minimum wage to what they like to call a “Living Wage”. This dollar figure is usually somewhere around $10-$12 per hour for unskilled labor which, despite what their farcical brand of mirco and macro-economics says, would kill most small businesses and maim a good number of medium and large ones which depend on unskilled labor.

But they keep on demanding it. Over and over and over again, until it becomes background noise.

The “liberal” party of Canada, on the other hand, has seen the light

Raising the minimum wage to $10 would hurt more poor people than it would help because employers would have to cut staff, Finance Minister Greg Sorbara said yesterday.

The comments came as New Democrat MPP Cheri Di Novo (Parkdale-High Park) introduced a private member’s bill calling for the minimum wage to be increased to $10 after about 150 anti-poverty activists rallied in the pouring rain outside the Legislature.

But the proposed increase is too expensive for employers to swallow with Ontario’s minimum hourly wage of $7.75 already scheduled to rise to $8 next Feb. 1, said Sorbara.

“There would be some significant job loss,” he predicted.

Progressive Conservative Leader John Tory agreed, saying a $2 hike would be “very substantial” for companies to absorb.

I wonder if this story will appear in any of those ‘Right-Wing Media’ outlets the left is always jabbering on about?

Ved-dy In-ta-re-stingk

I don’t know how truthful ‘ol Rudy is being here, but the information in this David Postman article could prove to be a deciding factor if/when Rudy runs in 2008.

Giuliani drops support for assault-weapon ban

I’m a little behind on this, but Josh Feit got something interesting when Rudy Giuliani was in town for Mike McGavick. Feit asked the former New York mayor about the assault-weapon ban, and Giuliani said he has changed his mind and no longer supports it.

The link to Feit’s article contains more than your average amount of anti-gun hyperbole and I don’t suggest you click on it unless you need a laugh today.

But the fact that Giuliani has supposedly changed his stance on this issue shows, at least on the surface, that hopefuls for the (R) nomination for President know where their loyalties on this issue need to stand.

The Dumbest Thing I’ve Read All Day: 10/18

Nicole Belle at the CrooksAndLiarsBlog notes the capture of a high-ranking al Queda leader and links to this Reuters article

A suspected al Qaeda leader, accused of being involved in September 11 and planning the 2004 Madrid train bombings, has been imprisoned in a secret U.S. jail for the past year, Spain’s El Pais newspaper reported on Sunday.

Mustafa Setmarian, 48, a Syrian with Spanish citizenship, was captured in Pakistan in October 2005 and is held in a prison operated by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, Pakistani and European security service officials told El Pais.

A spokesman for the U.S. embassy in Spain declined to comment on the report.

Setmarian’s 2005 capture was reported in May of this year after the United States put a $5 million bounty on the head of the alleged founder of al Qaeda’s Spanish network.

A photograph of the red-haired Setmarian has been removed from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Intelligence’s most-wanted Web page.

She then follows up with a question:

So they have an Al Qaeda leader in custody for the last year and haven’t trotted him out as proof that they are winning the “War on Terror” or prosecuted him for crimes in which he’s allegedly been involved during this oh-so-important election season?  Hmmmm…..It seems to me that would be a pretty big deal to help the Republicans look tough on national security.  Can you guess why they haven’t?

From what I can glean in the feverswamps/comment section, the guesses are as follows in order of popularity:

1. He has been tortured and/or disfigured beyond what American citizens would find acceptable and BusHitlerMcCheneyBurton can’t let the populace see him,

2. He was killed during interrogation

3. He was killed during aprehension

4. We never actually apprehended him

5. He never really existed because September 11th was an inside job

Or, if you’re not insane, you might think that catching terrorists isn’t a political thing. But how many people that read places like CrooksAndLiars seriously aren’t insane?
