And I’m out

As of 1900 yesterday evening, I am officially on vacation from my place of employ for the duration of one week.

The first week of July, 2007 should prove to be a productive one for RNS as I have a number of Word.doc pages of links that I haven’t yet managed to get around to posting on. I’m hoping to tackle those, as well as a number of other home-based tasks, during this week.

So get ready to put me in my place, ladies and gents. I’m gonna be typing up a storm, hopefully anyway. But right now, I don’t feel like doing much other than enjoying my ability to not have to make use of my alarm clock.

Have a good rest of your weekend and we’ll see y’all tomorrow.

The Booty Eulogies: In Memorium

I first met John Thomas Booty during his visit to Monaco Ville, where my family’s home is at. He was “just enjoying the scenery” as he said, when I asked him his business in Monaco. Most people come to gamble in The Spelugues (Monte Carlo), but John seemed to have no urge to play with Lady Luck.

He was a very kind and handsome man who visited less often than I would have enjoyed. Though I admit, my means make it so that I could have visited him whenever I pleased. It was at his request to visit him that I missed my Uncle’s accession ceremony, which suited me as I’ve never enjoyed state-pomp.

As always, with hindsight comes the recognition of times spent apart. I dearly wish that could see John one more time without having it be a memory.

See you at Front Sight

I’ve mentioned the Front Site Firearms Training Institute multiple times in the past, especially during the string of Boston T. Party “Quotes of the Day” run. They are one of the premier schools for practical firearms training on the North American continent.

They have set up an advertizing campaign somewhat akin to Googlebombing, wherein bloggers who post a patch of HTML on their blogs (as seen below) will be given a free course of their choice of Practical Rifle, Select-Fire M16, Defensive Handgun, Tactical Shotgun, or a Uzi Submachine Gun. (Personally, I think The Hun Bastard and I would have a blast at the Practical Rifle course)

Feel free to click on any of the links below to be taken to the Front Sight site and paruse about. Let them know that RNS has had them permalinked since around the time we switched over to WordPress (January 2005) and would love to stop by for a session.

Also, in case you don’t know, if you buy a lifetime membership to GOA, you also get a free course at Front Sight worth nearly 2x as much as you paid for the membership.

If you have a blog and would like to participate, you can go here for the HTML. Thank you for clicking, and see you at Front Sight.

Found at the Anarchangel and which has become somewhat of a bit of a controversy.

Me Want

How could you not want one of these? In .375 Holland & Holland? What are ya, a girl? (though I suspect that I could think of a number of women would want one too)

Sure, if you go to the Fuchs Fine Guns website, it reads “P.O.R” which of course means “Price Out of Range”.

I’m not even caring about getting the engraving work done. just a plain-jane version would make me quite happy.

Taking donations.

Wasting Taxpayer Dollars on Racist Ideologies

Yesterday, the SCOTUS knocked another one out of the park by declaring the use of race in school admissions was, indeed, unconstitutional.

For those that don’t know, the Seattle School District has a couple of schools that do exceptionally well, and the rest that pretty much, well, don’t. For decades, the district has used forced bussing upon Seattle families in order to “racially diversify” the schools in different parts of the city.

When I-200 (the anti-racial preferences Citizen’s Initiative) was put through, the district was supposed to stop using race all together in school admissions, but of course, they didn’t. They instead switched to the current (until yesterday) system that made race a so called “secondary” decision maker.

Every year, parents were allowed to request which school their child went to, but when the well performing schools reached their capacity, the system went into “tie breaker” mode. The first “tie breaker” was if the student had a sibling who already attended the school, with preferences going to those who did.

Race was the next “tie breaker”, with preferences going to non-Caucasians and non-regular-Asians, which is why everyone but the Seattle School District knew it was illegal.

They spent hundreds of thousands, if not tens of millions, of taxpayer dollars not just in producing the policy, not just in implementing and enforcing it, but in fighting it all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

Here is the story of a real, actual civil rights hero: Kathleen Brose, the mother who fought the corrupt and racist system and won.

As is expected, the leftists, those who would separate us in order to gain power over us, are not happy in the least bit.

I am extremely disappointed in the Supreme Court’s decision overriding the efforts of local communities to grapple with the complex issue of diversity in our schools. This decision is a retreat from our nation’s commitment to opportunity and equality in our schools and a retreat from the fundamental values of our country.

Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi

Said with all the double speak one can put into two sentences and still be considered psuedo-rational.

One of the local leftists, stilwell of the NW Progressive Institute, had this to say

In conservative la-la land, attempts to counteract discrimination are themselves a form of discrimination.

Let me translate: Only white people can be racists, so to counteract this, the government has an obligation to be preemtively racist and install the only form or reparations (aka: Payback) that we have been able to pass legislatively.

Good call, SCOTUS.

RNS Quote of the Day: 06/29/07

Ah, Friday! A good day to quote a sociopath.

Scientists who work for nuclear power or nuclear energy have sold their soul to the devil. They are either dumb, stupid, or highly compromised…. Free enterprise really means rich people get richer. And they have the freedom to exploit and psychologically rape their fellow human beings in the process…. Capitalism is destroying the earth. Cuba is a wonderful country. What Castro’s done is superb.

Helen Caldicott, Australian pediatrician, speaking for the Union of Concerned Scientists (as quoted by Elizabeth Whelan in her book Toxic Terror)

This isn’t just any sociopath, this one belongs to a group which AlGore and the rest of the eco-socialists loves to quote from: The Union of Concerned Scientists.

Their only “concern” is that capitalism will save lives while making people happy and more free.

Remember Your Toilet

They call it progress. I call it authoritarianism.

King County Executive Ron Sims took the first step toward limiting greenhouse-gas emissions from new development on Wednesday with an executive order covering unincorporated parts of the county.

The order will require developers to provide information — such as square footage of buildings and estimated travel on new roads — that the county can use to project greenhouse-gas emissions.

The requirement takes effect Sept. 1. Sims later plans to create emission limits for new developments. Those limits would be sent to the Metropolitan King County Council for approval.

State Department of Ecology Director Jay Manning said Sims’ action may be a harbinger of what’s to come as the state grapples with ways to reduce the emissions that scientists say contribute to global warming.

The state is considering measures similar to Sims’ approach.

In the “ever-greening” of King County, we have seen the creeping bile that is government wresting control of private property for property owners. It took a big leap forward in the past couple years with the so called Critical Areas Ordinance that controlled how much of your land you could utilize, and now has the county setting guidelines with how much “greenhouse gas” your house and property can “emit”.

Oh, they haven’t put this requirement on houses built before 2007 yet, but you can bet that they will. To wit,

Sims said his executive order is a warning shot to the rest of the state. “Every jurisdiction is on notice now,” he said.

The already expensive housing costs in King County will take a 20% jump in the next couple of years as builders have to buy the top of the line (aka: most costly) home heating furnaces, water heaters, washer & dryer sets and kitchen appliances for the newly built homes.

Certain items such as those listed above will also probably not be allowed for sale in King County, because of the “high emissions”, and then be restricted throughout the state shortly thereafter. They want to do to your refrigerator what Congressional Democrats are doing to your car.

Don’t believe me, remember what the Clinton Administration eco-edicts did to your toilet.

It always starts with just one person

Someone they think they can do away with quietly.

They get away with it handily, assisted by their friends in the media. Then the rest of the control freaks see it and start doing it too.Rep.

Maxine Waters, California Democrat, reportedly had former Los Angeles mayoral candidate and homeless activist Ted Hayes arrested for disorderly conduct outside her Capitol Hill office several days ago, then requested he remain quiet about his apprehension.

According to links found at DANEgerus, Hayes was questioning Waters’ commitment to a proposed immigration bill floating around the House that resembled the recently deceased one in the Senate. He didn’t like the bill because he is of the mind that illegal immigration hurts the black community as well as puts unnecessary strain in the social welfare and education systems.

Waters’ disagreed, and told him he was “full of shit”.

When Hayes objected to her explicatives, she had a Capital Police officer cuff him and haul him off for disorderly conduct.

She then had the gall to call Hayes and ask him not to talk about it.

The Soundboard: Give ‘Em Hell Edition

Today is the day folks. We’ll know by 1100 EST whether or not the Immigration Surrender Bill can be killed where it stands (that’s 0800 for us leftcoasters).

Here are the numbers again. Let no phone go unrung.

The Dems and the media (pardon me for repeating myself) used to always like playing on Bush’s Texas “Texasness” by calling him a “cowboy”, though I have noticed that they don’t do that any more. Let us let them know what the real “cowboys” want. Because surely, no sane person in Texas wants this bill.

Cowboys From Hell – Pantera

UPDATE: That’s the way I like it.

46 – 53. Not even close. And it sounds as though they either shut off incoming phone calls to Senate offices or it was broken by the volume of calls.

Either way, I like that too.
