Ignoring the populace

With a case before the courts in King County in which a woman registered her dog to vote to show how easy it is for non-citizens to partake in what only citizens are allowed to do, (Barely) Governor Christine Gregoire has decided to create more opportunities for non-citizens to register to vote.

Governor Chris Gregoire today designated the Washington Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) as a voter registration assistance agency and directed the agency to appoint a voter registration assistance officer, efficiently help citizens register to vote and work with the Secretary of State’s office to ensure compliance with established voter registration procedures.

Seeing as how the Washington State DSHS has one of the most miserable reputations for being able to keep taxpayer money out of the hands of illegal immigrants, I do not think it wise for them to be a centerpiece on the Gregoire Plan to register voters.

Which is probably why she thinks it is.

Corrie Lawyer Compares Israelis to Nazis

In their ongoing attempt to justify their daughter’s Jew-hating efforts to help palestinians kill Israeli citizens, Rachel Corrie’s parents had their case against Caterpillar heard on appeal by a three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit federal appeals court.

Two years after an Israeli-operated bulldozer crushed their daughter in the Gaza Strip, Cindy and Craig Corrie were frustrated by the lack of answers in their daughter’s death. They felt that they had exhausted all other avenues and that their only choice was to file a lawsuit.

On Monday, their case, filed in 2005 against Caterpillar Inc., which made the bulldozer, will be heard in Seattle by a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

“It was only because of our frustrations to get some kind of accountability and find out what happened,” Cindy Corrie said.

And in the ongoing example of the PI’s ignorance of facts, or their unwillingness to print the facts, the Seattle PI prints the fantasy version of Corrie’s getting squished

In March 2003, Rachel Corrie, 23, spent part of the winter quarter of her senior year at The Evergreen State College serving with the International Solidarity Movement, members of which were acting as human shields in Rafah, Gaza, between Israeli bulldozers and Palestinian homes. On March 16, one of the muted-green machines approached the home where Corrie was living. She stood between the bulldozer and the home, armed with a bullhorn and wearing a bright orange jacket, which were not enough to stop the 50 tons of steel.

I’ve never heard the version of where she was actually staying in the house they contend was going to be demolished. I’ve always heard that it was a “Palestinian doctor” who lived in the house.

The house that was inside a fenced neighborhood. The house that was 100 feet from where the D-9 was working, excavating tunnels. Tunnels that were used to smuggle guns and explosives into Palestinian terrorist hands.

But hey, why stick to facts when you quote assholes like this

Like those who supplied poisonous gas for the Nazis’ gas chambers, Caterpillar should be held accountable, attorney Maria LaHood said Friday. She is part of the team of lawyers from the Center for Constitutional Rights in New York and Seattle University who are handling the case.

For those who though that the name “Center for Constitutional Rights” (aka: The CCR) rang a bell, here are a few factoids:

One of the top lawyers at CCR is Rachel Meeropol, granddaughter of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg.

The CCR has coordinated the legal challenges on behalf of inmates at Gitmo, contending that they should be treated as US Citizens and tried in US civilian courts.

Last year, the CCR published a book titled “Articles of Impeachment against George W Bush”

The CCR is also the group who filed briefs in Germany in an attempt to try former Sec. of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, for “war crimes”.

It would take a group that disgusting to represent the Corrie’s case.

And it doesn’t surprise me that their representative believes the Israelis are equal to Nazis.

Still doesn’t work

Imagine that!

Ya know, canucks, I do know where to exchange Canadian money in the Seattle/Tacoma area, so if’n y’all just just have too much of it and need somewhere to get rid of it, you can just mail it to me. Small bills, large bills, I don’t care.

Federal gun registry has not improved public safety despite costing taxpayers more than $2 billion

Canada’s homicide rate and number of gang-related murders has increased since the federal government’s firearms registry and licensing program was implemented, an indication that the program has failed to improve public safety, according to Hubris in the North, The Canadian Firearms Registry, a new report from independent research
organization The Fraser Institute.

“In 1995, the government promised Canadians that the gun registry would reduce total criminal violence, suicide and domestic abuse, not just gun violence,” said Gary Mauser, author of the report, senior fellow with The Fraser Institute, and a professor at Simon Fraser University.

“But the legislation has failed to do that, primarily because it relies upon public-health research to justify a moralistic approach to firearms that exaggerates the danger of citizens owning firearms through pseudoscientific research methods.”

“Psuedoscientific” is one of words that could describe their research methods, but that I wouldn’t use. My word choices are moderately more explicit.

Now, if the Canadian government would like to see a program that actually DOES deter crime, they need only read about Oklahoma

Ten years later, officials say gun-carrying citizens responsible, deterring crime.

We all know that the Canadian government didn’t put 10 years into their “pseudoscientific research” before enacting the registry.

People Ruin Everything

That is one of my favorite mottos, and the reason why I don’t go to public gatherings such as concerts any more. It is also the reason why the results of this “survey” are so lame.

The New 7 Wonders of the World

Click the link to see the results.

First of all, right off the bat, any “7 Wonders” list that doesn’t include Angkor Wat is full of shit. “Runner Up” doesn’t count.

Angkor-Wat-from-the-air.jpg

No Giza Pyramids? We still don’t even know how those dung beetle worshiping, non-wheel using fucks put them together? By simple default, it has to be a “Wonder”.

No Acropolis? WTF? The architect had the balls to add in corrections for perspective.

Scuse me while I wander off and grumble for a bit.

Socialized Medicine is So Wonderful

That it takes American private industry to find what could be the precursor to a cure for AIDS

Results from a highly anticipated clinical study show that an experimental drug suppressed the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) to undetectable levels in people with highly drug-resistant forms of the pathogen. The drug, TMC125 (etravirine), is the first of its kind in nearly a decade and is one of three new drugs capable of treating drug-resistant HIV that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is expected to approve this year.

The new drugs offer the hope of treatment to perhaps thousands of HIV patients who have stopped responding to other medications, says William Towner, medical director of the Kaiser Permanente HIV/AIDS research trials program and member of the study team, which reported its findings online today in The Lancet. By keeping the virus at undetectable levels, researchers believe they can slow the spread of drug-resistant varieties.

Lee at Right Thinking correctly points out that this drug was not discovered in Cuba, or France, or Canada, or the UK, or any of the other places where the government is the provider of citizen healthcare and the funding mechanism for 90+% of the medical research.

Of course, proponents of government run healthcare would bleat that if we would just take enough tax money from “The Rich” and give it out to whom the fed has decided is most deserving (aka: those who can woo their Congressmen the best), that those recipients would eventually discover a medicine this good.

Eventually.

Opposites Attract

During the final days of debate on the Senate’s Immigration Surrender Bill, polls were showing that over 75% of the US public was opposed to what amounted to amnesty.

The Seattle Times, on the other hand, just cannot seem to believe such things and proceeds to publish eight Letters to the Editor in their Sunday edition, only two of which (aka: 25% – aka: the “opposite” of 75%) are not pro-amnesty.

The first one reads

How ironic that Wednesday we celebrated a revolution for “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” while Tuesday’s front page records the cruel persecution and deportation of people who came to this country seeking security and economic survival. Something is wrong with this picture!

The U.S. and its free-trade policies have sucked the life out of the economies to the south, forcing thousands of people to come here to survive. Their labor keeps the U.S. afloat.

Yet the government treats them like criminals, uproots them after decades in this country, and breaks up families without even any time for them to arrange for the welfare of their children.

The so-called immigration “reform” measure, which would have turned immigrants into indentured servants, died a well-deserved death. What’s needed is simple and cheap: Stop the militarization and walls between the U.S. and Mexico and grant amnesty for all.

RNS Quote of the Day: 07/09/07

More from the eco-socialistas and their sociopathic co-horts.

But first, a bit of news (that I should have posted last week) found via Volokh

The FBI and the Los Angeles Fire Department are investigating an anonymous claim that animal rights extremists placed an unexploded incendiary device found under the car of a prominent UCLA eye doctor last weekend. The incident was similar to one last year in which another UCLA researcher was the intended target.

A gasoline-filled device was discovered Sunday by the car outside the Westside home of Dr. Arthur Rosenbaum, who is chief of pediatric ophthalmology at UCLA’s Jules Stein Eye Institute. The device did not ignite despite evidence of an attempt to light it ….

An e-mail on Wednesday signed by the Animal Liberation Brigade said the group put the device there to stop experiments on animals in Rosenbaum’s laboratory….

According to the National Institutes of Health, [Rosenbaum’s] lab received federal funding to, among other things, test tiny implanted electrodes on monkeys to correct severe cross-eyed conditions.

Which corresponds nicely with this quote:

In a war you have to take up arms and people will get killed, and I can support that kind of action by petrol bombing and bombs under cars, and probably at a later stage, the shooting of vivisectors on their doorsteps. It’s a war, and there’s no other way you can stop vivisectors.

Tim Daley – British Animal Liberation Front Leader (BBC interview, 1987)

The BALF, friends of the Animal Rights Militia, also of the UK.

Taking a look at their chosen logo, how much would you like to bet that they have also disregarded the Brit firearms laws?

When you hear from the moonbats that US soldiers were not spit upon or otherwise treated like shit by the “peace loving leftists”, remind them of Lauren Maggi of Syracuse, NY.

Then, you can remind them of five, still uncaptured and unnamed, assailants who viciously assaulted a Camp Murray soldier nearly a year ago.

Lastly, you can remind them of Matthew Marren of Pennesauken, PA, who was “unhappy with the government” and seriously wounded an Airman on the 4th of July before, thankfully, killing himself. Marren’s suicide notes may never be released to the public, but his need to try and kill a member of the military tells me he probably wasn’t “unhappy with the government” in a Ron Paul sort of way.

Faulty Logic

You may not remember it, but in 1996 Congress passed the “Violence Against Women Act”. According to Wiki the act “provided $1.6 billion to enhance investigation and prosecution of the violent crime perpetrated against women, increased pre-trial detention of the accused, provided for automatic and mandatory restitution of those convicted, and allowed civil redress in cases prosecutors chose to leave unprosecuted.”

NOW called it “the greatest breakthrough in civil rights for women in nearly two decades”, which should give you pause.

Even the ACLU didn’t like VAWA, calling it “Troubling” and the pre-trial detentions “repugnant to the Constitution.”

In 2000, the SCOTUS found the “civil rights remedy” of the VAWA Unconstitutional and took it away.

Currently, the VAWA instructs local law enforcement to NOT reveal the immigration status of women who report domestic violence to any other agency, most especially the ICE.

Republican Senators Norm Coleman (Minnesota) and Pete Domenici (New Mexico) want to change that with Senate Amendment 1158.

And the NOW Cows are shitting purple twinkies about it.

Their logic runs that if women have to fear being rounded up by immigraiton autorities, that they will be lesslikely to report the crime committed against them.

Sadly, this is the same logic used in regards to crime by local municipalities more commonly called “sancutary cities” where the officers or deputies are not allowed to quesiton the immigration status of anyone, in fear that the illegal immigrant may not report a crime in fear of being arrested.

It is a faulty logic. The fear that the illegal immigrant faces in not the fault of the local municipalitiy or the officers responding to the call, it is the fault of the illegal immigrant for putting themselves in that position in the first place. If they had proper immigration status, also known as following the rules, they would have nothing to worry about. However, they took it upon themselves to break the law, and the pinch that they are in is one of their own making.

We’ve all heard the stories of the junkies who call the police to report that a dealer has ripped them off in a drug deal. These exemption laws would be akin to a statute exempting a crackhead from arrest when he calls police about a crooked drug dealer, and they make about as much sense.

Back in May, Coleman and Domenici brought S.A. 1158 up for a vote and lost by one single vote. Call your Senators today and tell then this will not do.

They should have learned something about what Americans want from their government during the vote on the Immigration Surrender Bill. “Sanctuary Laws” such as the one oncluded in the VAWA are not what Americans want.

At the Heinlein Centennial

Remarks by Bill Brunner, African-American head of NASA’s Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs dept:

Beating the odds, I was the first in my family to earn a college degree – a Bachelor’s in Astronomy. Now, I am a retired Air Force fighter aviator & colonel working for America’s space agency – in large part because RAH told me that race doesn’t matter, military service is honorable, freedom is better than tyranny and humankind’s destiny lies among the stars.

Emphasis mine. Hat tip and thanks to Instapundit, to whom the whole speech was emailed. You can — and should — read the whole thing below.
