You’ve been warned

I’ve been posting quotes from the moral midgets in the “Animal Rights” community for months now. I took a couple weeks off from them to post a bit about how the recycling racket works and these quacks go off.

The home of Dr. Arthur Rosenbaum isn’t hard to find. He lives a few blocks south of Sunset Boulevard, near the UCLA campus, in a white two-story house with a front yard jammed with aspen trees. There is a short driveway on the side of the home, and during the evening, a bright, white light illuminates the carport. If someone wants to sabotage the doctor’s car under the cover of night, a flashlight isn’t needed.

On Sunday, June 24, just that kind of person struck. Rosenbaum, a highly regarded pediatric ophthalmologist who had been regularly harassed by animal-rights activists for his research work with cats and rhesus monkeys at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA, noticed a device underneath his luxury sedan. The bomb squad was dispatched to the scene and hauled away a makeshift — but deadly — explosive. A faulty fuse was the only reason it didn’t go off.

Three days later, the so-called Animal Liberation Brigade sent a typo-riddled “communiqué” to the North American Animal Liberation Press Office in Los Angeles. It was posted on the NAALPO Web site:

“130am on the twenty forth of june: 1 gallon of fuel was placed and set a light under the right front corner of Arthur Rosenbaums large white shiney BMW.“He and his wife …, living at … in la, are the target of rebellion for the vile and evil things he does to primates at UCLA. We have seen by our own eyes the torture on fully concious primates in his lab. We have heard their whimpers and screeches of pain. Seeing this drove one of us to rush out and vomit. We have seen hell and its in Rosenbaums lab.

“Rosenbaum, you need to watch your back because next time you are in the operating room or walking to your office you just might be facing injections into your eyes like the primates, you sick twisted fuck.

“Demonstrators need to realize that just demonstrating won’t stop this kind of evil. Look up Arthur Rosenbaum to find out about his experiment from two thousand four threw two thousand seven. ‘animal liberation brigade’”

Rosenbaum wouldn’t comment. In an e-mail, he wrote, “I have been asked by law enforcement to not discuss any events surrounding the incident at this time. I look forward to doing so in the future.” According to a Bel-Air Patrol guard, though, the doctor’s neighbors are “jumpy.”

Rosenbaum got very lucky that none of the animal rights dweebies is competent in making things go boom. Once you get a threat, such as the ones he has received in the past, you gate up or you get out (of that line of work). Thankfully, Rosembaum is not a coward and has kept on with his life-changing research. He is, however, not as smart as the letters after his name imply.

He didn’t change his routine, he didn’t change his lifestyle and he didn’t improve his security.

This is a “check” from the animal rights assholes to every other medical professional who has been threatened in the past: You need to provide for yourselves here. There aren’t enough police to cover your ass 24/7 and you need to put those minds to work on the side-project of your family’s security.

This is going to get worse before it gets better.

The “Taking Action For Animals” conference, kicking off tonight at the Ronald Reagan Building & International Trade Center, will feature at least one organization with direct ties to organized terrorism, the nonprofit Center for Consumer Freedom warned today. The event is sponsored by the Humane Society of the United States, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, and other prominent animal rights groups.

An organization called “Hugs for Puppies” is among the event’s approved exhibitors. Hugs for Puppies is the Philadelphia chapter of Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC), an organization convicted last year in federal court-along with six of its leaders-on domestic terrorism charges related to a violent campaign against medical researchers.

In a November 2002 announcement, the group declared that “SHAC Philly will now be referred to as Hugs For Puppies.” Hugs for Puppies is currently the subject of four different restraining orders intended to protect the public from the group’s constant harassment and threats.

In November 2006, Hugs for Puppies director Nicholas Cooney was convicted of making “terroristic threats with the intent to terrorize another” in a Pennsylvania case related to SHAC’s violent activism. Cooney is expected to represent his organization at this weekend’s conference.

Center for Consumer Freedom Director of Research David Martosko said: “There’s no excuse for consorting with terrorists. The Humane Society of the United States and PETA should be distancing themselves from violence. But by welcoming their movement’s most vicious activists with open arms, they’re defending the indefensible.”

The Taking Action for Animals conference will also include a speech by PETA vice president Bruce Friedrich, who famously advocated “blowing stuff up and smashing windows” during a 2001 animal rights convention in Virginia.

What Mr. Martosko doesn’t realize is that the above mentione dgroups give money to and actively support the actions quoted above, just not in public.

While I don’t have the exact quote from Friedrich, this one should suffice to let you in on his mindset:

It would be really great if all these fast-food outlets, slaughter houses, these laboratories and the banks who fund them exploded tomorrow.

Bruce Friedrich

It is their religion. This is their righteous anger manifesting in punishing those whom their religion deems unholy.

Please, help me out here

Maybe I’m just being unimaginative, but something I saw on the Lieberman-hating leftist FireDogLakeBlog has left me scratching my head.

Pharmaceutical companies are data mining which doctors are prescribing what drugs. They are logging this information in their internal computors, without the names or info on who is getting these drugs mind you, and they are rewarding doctors who prescribe large amounts of their products.

Hamsher gives an example of a doctor friend of hers who gets speaking gig work from Pfizer, with significant reimbursment, because that doctor prescribes large quantity of Pfizer products.

It seems to be a producer-based quid-pro-quo. The vast majority doctors didn’t know about this program until the drug companies started approaching them.

My confusion here is as to why this is a problem?

If a large pharmacutical company makes a large variety of medications and wants to spend it’s money promoting the medical community to, if a patient can use one of their products, to use their products; I’m not really seeing a problem.

If a patient cannot use one of their products but the doctor assigns it anyway, then there is a malpractice issue. But she provides no evidence that this is what is happening or that this is even her problem with the compnaies’ programs.

So help me out here.

Auto shops and parts stores get deep discounts for using a particular brand of parts and/or tools and/or tires exclusively. Restaurants and grocery stores get the same if they only handle a certain brand of canned goods and the like or a particular dairy.

Every successful business everywhere gets special deals for using a particular this or that in their place of business, right on down to copier paper. Why is this so controversial?

Is it just a hatred of US style non-socialized medicine on their part? Or maybe just a hatred of capitalism?

You don’t say

I’d never believe it if I hadn’t read it.

Except, of course, that it is a well known fact in the modern world.

DDT Spray Scares Mosquitos Away, Study Says

Mosquitoes that carry malaria, dengue fever and yellow fever avoid homes that have been sprayed with DDT, researchers reported on Wednesday.

The chemical not only repels the disease-carrying insects physically, but its irritant and toxic properties helps keep them away, the researchers reported in the Public Library of Science journal PLoS ONE.

They estimate that DDT spray reduced the risk of disease transmission by nearly three-quarters.

And yet, because it kills insects, which are eaten by birds, who injest the insects, as well as the DDT, which in turn softens the bird’s eggs, the early version of the eco-socialist left banned it’s use, killing 30 Million African children in the decades since it’s manufacture was cut to nearly zero in America, causing available supplies to drop to near zero.

Market Theory 101

If no one wants what you’re selling, you won’t be in busness long.

Liberal/Progressive talk radio station, Air America, found this out in rather short order.

Now leftist screecher-creature, Stephanie Miller, who very recently was telling anyone who would listen that her ratings were only going up-up-up is currently losing big time in the uber-socialist market of Seattle.

Here are the latest Arbitron ratings for the leftist, formerly Air America affiliate 1090 KPTK, via the pro-left-wing talk radio afficianados at blatherWatch.

Stephanie Miller (6-9a) lost 40%; Thom Hartmann (9a-12p) plunged 63%; Ed Shultz is in the bucket 68%; our Rachel Maddow is down 50%, and Randy Rhodes lost 33% of her audience. The only host who got over 1% of the audience was Mike Malloy- and even he dove 64%.

Ooooh, that’s gotta hurt.

Oddly enough, middle of the road talkers and right-wing talkers lost very little or gained shares.

Must be a conspiracy. I’m sure Ms. Miller will have something rather pithy to say about it in the very near future.

I’ll never figure them out

Maybe I’m not supposed to.

Legal first-generation immigrants of minority racial status, employed in unionized, “family-wage” vocations and the leftards at the University of Washington are demanding they lose their jobs.

Read that again, then click this link to read about members of the African Maasi Tribe who are working at Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo as wildlife exhibit interpreters to help visitors understand the animals that come from not just the Maasi’s native continent, but which are integral to the Maasi Tribe’s suvival.

Excellent program, from what I am to understand. While I haven’t gone myself (I can see Tacoma’s Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium from my front yard), a number of my be-childrened co-workers have and they say the kids got such a kick in the pants from it that they wouldn’t stop talking about it for weeks.

Yet some uppity broad has got a group of people at the UW to scream “RACISM!!!!1!” over it, commenting that it hearkens back to when zoos included blacks in the exhibits.

Methinks she doesn’t realize which side of the bars those Africans were on back then.

But nothing more I have to say about their sheer idiocy would hold a candle to what Stephen Krival wrote in his Letter to the Editor of the Seattle Times over the weekend in response to the above linked article.

I was brought up to believe that racism is abhorrent. I spent a number of years living in East Africa in the late ’60s, where my friends and schoolmates were African, Asian and European. It was a unique time when many of us felt that almost any human injustice could be overcome.

However, I was chagrined to learn that a group of students and professors at the University of Washington, where I am now a graduate student, feel they have the right to levy their opprobrium on the Woodland Park Zoo, its visitors and a Maasai employee they could not possibly know.

If these individuals truly cannot not see the difference between equating a man with an animal and utilizing the singular skills of a Maasai to describe what life is like on the plains of Serengeti — one of the last refuges of the large ungulates of Africa and the nomadic herdsmen who have lived among them for eons — then perhaps they are just a little blinded by their own jaundiced view/racial correctness.

Where Catherine Claiborne and her teachers see a black man employed in an animal exhibit, most visitors certainly see nothing of the kind. They see a knowledgeable man, and an ambassador from an exotic land, where both the wildlife and the way of life of his own people are in danger of extinction. This is what I see, and it is what many Maasai fear.

All this is apparently lost on this myopic group of people who have unjustly accused the zoo of racism. This kind of attack is little different from the kind of ugliness we have heard from the Daughters of the American Revolution, the John Birch Society and their ilk.

So, even though I rarely go to the zoo, I will vote “yes” on Proposition 2 [which would, among other things, support the zoo], and I will make a donation to the Woodland Park Zoological Society, because it appears to be employing innovative and effective means to save wildlife around the world and fight for human rights simultaneously.

Exactly why I’m trying to get a transfer to Spokane

ID Sheriff: More Concealed Gun Permits Would Boost Public Safety

The sheriff of a north-central Idaho county where a shooting rampage left four dead and three wounded last May wants more people to obtain concealed weapons permits and carry guns, including on the University of Idaho campus, to improve public safety. “In my opinion, if there were more students with (concealed weapons permits), the world would be safer,” Latah County Sheriff Wayne Rausch told the Lewiston Tribune on Tuesday. “Just because we (law enforcement officers) are charged with protecting the public, doesn’t mean the public shouldn’t be able to protect itself.” The university bans guns except under supervised circumstances at its firing range. Except for law enforcement officials, the university requires that firearms “be transported to the range unloaded, encased, with a trigger lock attached or otherwise rendered inoperable.”

Rausch’s idea also contradicts Moscow Mayor Nancy Chaney, who late last month asked for a legal opinion from the state attorney general’s office on whether the city has the authority to ban both concealed and exposed weapons in public areas such as city buildings.

OK, the university doesn’t allow guns on campus except at their firing range?

I’ve never been on a university campus that actually still has a firing range.

I need to transfer so damn badly.

Help will be given to those who are loyal to liberty

It saddens me to report that the true exodus from the British Isles is in full swing.

4000 people a week trying to leave UK

Britain is facing a mass exodus of people looking to escape the crime and grime of modern living.

The country’s biggest foreign visa consultancy firm has revealed that applications have soared in the last seven months by 80 per cent to almost 4,000 a week. Ten years ago the figure was just 300 a week.

Most people are relocating within the Commonwealth – in Australia, Canada and South Africa. They are almost all young professionals and skilled workers aged 20-40.

And many cite their reason for wanting to quit as immigration to these shores – and the burden it is placing on their communities and local authorities. The dearth of good schools, spiralling house prices, rising crime and tax increases are also driving people away.

Obtaining a visa to live abroad can cost as little as £1,500 for the right candidates. Plumbers, electricians, construction workers and doctors are famously in demand. The only obstruction to emigration from the UK is a criminal record, poor health, advancing age and being a “third country national”.

Liam Clifford, a former immigration control officer, set up globalvisas.com as a one-man band 12 years ago. He now employs 60 people and is in the process of opening new offices in both South Africa and Australia. Mr Clifford said: “It’s absolutely phenomenal. People are trying to get away to wherever they can, and most are successful.

“Ironically, one of the main reasons for leaving is the overstretch of services due to increasing immigration into the UK. People are looking for the better standard of living offered by other countries, as even the most idyllic villages in Britain are under pressure from rising populations.

Pity Britannica. The cowtown I spent my formative years in barely had over 4000 residents.

If you have contacts, we can use their skills here as well. Be a sponsor.

Someone needs to go back to Civics class

Nicole Brodeur, Seattle Times Staff Columnist should be fired until she supplies her employers with proof that she has successfully completed a 12-grade public school Civics course.

On Friday she wrote about the local grunge-rockers, Pearl Jam, getting a section of their performance of Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall” cut out by the webcasting portion of the AT&T Corporation. The portion which was cut was only one of the multiple rantings from PJ’s VoxMan, Eddie Vedder, against Bush that night.

Brodeur doesn’t care if it was a mistake or deliberate on AT&T’s part, she is declaring it censorship.

Brodeur is an idiot. If she doesn’t understand the concept of censorship enough to know that the only entity that is capable of it is government, then maybe she should go back to being a private idiot, and not risk being one in public and dragging the Times along with her.

Go ahead, click the link and read the stupidity. Make sure you scroll down to the bottom where she provides you with a link to PJ’s site. It just so happens that at that site you can see the unedited version of that tune. The unedited version which was released to be replayed by the band anywhere they damned well please by none other than, AT&T.

Oh yeah, that’s some heavy censorship, baby.

Warning: Democracy in Danger

Part #1:

The Washington State Supreme Court has agreed to hear the pro-tax argument against the anti-tax initiative I-960. I’ve written about it here and here and here.

This could be very bad, with the court setting a precident on which Initiatives are against the “public interest” before the citizens even get a chance to vote on them.

More when I know more.

Part #2

Stephan Sharkansky informs us that his pro-citizen I-25, as well as I-24, are still being held hostage by the King County Elections Office. Today will mark the 35th day that the office has taken to verify signatures, a process that usually takes a seven to ten days.
