So here’s the dillyo

Some gargantu-brained dweezle at corporate decided that tonight at 1800 would be the best time to shut down the system for “maintenance”. It will be down all weekend and until 0600 Monday.

I, on the other hand, still have a day’s worth of work to do that cannot wait until that appointed time on Monday, so I will be arriving at work while the sun is still rather high for my liking.

Here is some tunage and there are a couple posts below for you paruse whilst I saw logs.

The song has date significance for yesterday but didn’t fit with the theme. You may recognize it as having a portion of it in the rotating quote box.

If that ain’t country – David Allen Coe

Enjoy and I’ll post tomorrow.

Would you like to play a game?

I’m going to post three pics of cars that all have one thing in common, mechanically.

You try and guess. I’ll put the answer below the fold.

You’ve already seen this one

Now look at these two and see what you pick out

Not the RNS Quote of the Day

But still a damn good quote.

A couple weeks back, Johan Goldberg wrote the following in a column at NRO:

Liberals used to be the ones who argued that sending U.S. troops abroad was a small price to pay to stop genocide; now they argue that genocide is a small price to pay to bring U.S. troops home.

Last week, a reader wrote to Jonah to tell him how his spreading of the quote was being received:

Since your column the other day, I’ve been quoting you in my .signature, which as you know is a four-line tag that gets appended to everything I post in Usenet discussion newsgroups.

The reaction has been startling. I have never seen this kind of brouhaha about any .signature I’ve ever used (and in posting since 1990, I’ve used many). My .signatures are seldom lacking in political statement, but rarely do they provoke an uproar. Some people, unmoved by my tags in the past, suddenly complain that my simple quotation is a troll for political argument. There are at least two newsgroups in which I’ve been asked to lose the .signature; I won’t self-censor, and so I don’t expect to return.

I don’t know what the magic is. All I can guess is that your simple statement of obvious fact is pushing liberals’ cognitive dissonance to new levels, to the point of frightening them. It appears your words are like kryptonite to liberals.

The liberals see themselves in the quote and want to break the mirror. What they see is so ugly they cannot stand it.

Small-Caliber Insanity

Just picked up a barrel for the T/C in .204 Ruger. Todd Kindler made me do it. The man is a purveyor of small-caliber disease. Reading an issue of his Small Caliber News these days will leave you itching to go out and buy something in a .20 caliber.

Along those lines, the 5mm Remington Rimfire may be dead & buried, but to replace it, here’s the 5mm Creampie. (Yes, that link is safe for work. Get your minds out of the gutter!)

The Soundboard – Musical Accompaniment

While it does seem that I have stored my Reverend Horton Heat tunage so well that no one including myself can find it, I think that at least one of these will do for looking at today’s pics below.

Top Jimmy – Van Halen

Rocker – AC/DC

Enjoy!

They drove the fenders right off these cars

Normally, someone I’d call a “Rat Bastard” wouldn’t be considered worthy of my company.

I think I could bend that rule with these guys

More flatheadedness and six-cylinder mills

P8040020.JPG

And a tri-powered Olds Rocket engine. Not too common these days.

P8040021.JPG

But by far, my favorite two fenderless rides of the Hot Rod-A-Rama were this truck

P8040018.JPG

Complete with hard hat intake

And this conglomeration of what looks to be an early version supercharger on top of a small block mill.

I was too wowed to remember to stop and ask questions.

Stop by tomorrow for a game with more of these pics.

RNS Quote of the Day: 08/09/07

MYTH 8: WITHOUT FORCED RECYCLING MANDATES, THERE WOULDN’T BE RECYCLING.

This view reflects ignorance about the extent of recycling in the private sector, which is as old as trash itself. Scavenging may, in fact, be the oldest profession. In the 19th century, people bid for the right to scavenge New York City’s rubbish, and Winslow Homer’s 1859 etching, Scene on the Back Bay Lands (see cover of this issue), reveals adults and children digging through the detritus of the Boston city dump. Rag dealers were a constant of American life until driven out of business by the federal Wool Products Labeling Act of 1939, which stigmatized products made of recycled wool and cotton. And long before state or local governments had even contemplated the word recycling, makers of steel, aluminum, and many other products were recycling manufacturing scraps, and some were even operating post-consumer drop-off centers.

I spoke of metals recycling yesterday, and I really should have waited until today, but the point remains; if it is easier to use recyclable materials to manufacture new ones, there will be a financial incentive give so that people will do so.

If it takes more energy, time and resources to use recycled materials to manufacture new ones, there will not.

The recycle-at-all-costs dweebies then can only fall back on the line of “But at least we’re keeping things like plastics out of the landfills.”

Unfortunately, that excuse for recycling is not up to date with the current trends in technology.

In these United States, there are over 100 “Trash to Energy” plants. They are essentially incinerators hooked to steam turbines, however, you have never seen an incinerator burn this clean, nor have you ever even thought about getting paid to throw out your trash.

That will be the future. Unless the eco-socialists get their way.

You will get paid by the pound for you garbage, either up front or in electricity credits. There is even a strong possibility that one day not too far, you will be able to buy one of these via your “Homeowners Association” and be able to power your neighborhood with the trash you all generate.

But the eco-socialists, who don’t like your garbage, and who don’t like nuclear power, and who don’t like coal power, and who don’t like CNG or methane powered plants, and who don’t like hydro-electric dams, and who, essentially, don’t want you to use electricity at all, will do their damnedest to make sure nothing like this ever happens.

One of these plants is not too far from where I live. Before I started blogging I watched these Gaia worshipping assholes fight and fight and fight said power plant. They used every BS line they could think of; from “It’ll poison the land and rivers” to “It’ll make our children get cancer”. When their negative PR campaign didn’t work, they went to court with every damned scientist they could find to testify.

Thankfully, they lost. Even better, nearly a decade on and nothing they’ve said turned out to be true in even the slightest variation. They’ve been shown to be the control freaks and the liars we always knew they were.

They warned you to stop eating beef

I would feel absolutely no surprise if this turns out to be the truth.

Sabotage is suspected over Foot and Mouth

The deliberate release of viral material, possibly in an act of sabotage, may have caused the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak, officials said last night.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said in a report ordered by the Prime Minister that “release by human movement [of the FMD virus] must be considered a real possibility”.

Inspectors all but discounted theories that the virus escaped by air or water from the laboratory complex close to where the outbreak started, although they are continuing to investigate the possibility of equipment failure or a security breach.

The HSE concluded in the report — which was sent to Hilary Benn, the Environment Secretary, last night — that there was “a strong probability” that the virus came from the research centre three miles from the first outbreak in a herd of cattle in Surrey.

If they can’t stop you from eating animals willingly, the eco-socialists will just poison the supply of them.

To them, this is a righteous act. They would rather kill lab animals then let them be tested on. They would rather release into the wild minks from a mink farm and let them die violent deaths from coyote attacks and/or die from starvation/getting hit by a car than to let people make coats.

Their moral relativism is astoundingly sick.

Porcine Aviation Alert

Professor Volokh points towards an MSNBC piece that is not only not the usual anti-gun fare, but actually seems to normalize firearm ownership.

You can watch it by going here and scolling down the right sidebar to the “Photo Gallery with Audio” piece called “One Nation, Under the Gun”.

Hold on tight to the arms of your chair. I would have possibly fallen out of mine if I hadn’t.
