Vacation is good for the soul

I’ve got this week off. My last stretch of vacation until prolly January. I’m not going anywhere or doing much this time around though.

Halloween is the Wife’s favorite holiday and our 6th Wedding Anniversary is the day after. Fellas! Always, always, always try to get the anniversary off. It just makes things easier.

Anyway, so to start out the week, I awoke to find that I apparently fell asleep during Metalocalypse, and now the children’s cartoons are on. What is it about the current rash of children’s animation that makes the characters have to yell at each other about beating each other’s asses all the damn time? Porky Pig never screamed for 90 seconds about how he was gonna kick someone’s ass. Speedy Gonzalez might have given out the high pitched “Arriba! Arriba!” before taking off, but I awoke to some pair of jackass yelling for over a minute at each other about how badly the other one’s ass was going to get stomped, and then the bastards at the network went to commercial.

No wonder today’s kids are cowards. When Bugs said he was gonna get ya, you got got.

Moving on.

I was awake enough to grab the remote and roll on down to the the History Channel, figuring the yelling would be of a lesser content, only to find (thankfully) former President Jimmeh Cahtah giving his inauguration address on one of those “History in the Classroom” presentations The Big H shows first thing after signing back on.

As I rolled over, I said “You poor bastards. You have no idea what you’re getting into with that jackass. Still running from Nixon.” He then stopped talking, and I guess they switched to showing footage of the inauguration parade, because I looked up at the silence to see what I think was supposed to be a large peanut balloon being paraded down the street.

Only, it didn’t look like a peanut. It’s “brown” color was just too dark.

And I put my head back down on the pillow and said “Oh look, they’re floating a turd. Maybe they do know.”

Anyway, so I’ll be back after the wife goes comes home from work and goes to bed. So check back.

In the meantime, you should take a moment to peruse the comical stylings of the folks at LOLTHULHU, where I found this

And HALOLCATS, where things go like this

See y’all in a bit.

Trivia Answer

Click here for the answer to yesterday’s question.

As you can see, we had a number of correct answers. I had discovered the second definition while listening to a talk radio show not too long ago and thought that the luggage definition didn’t fit the context of what the speaker was trying to say. I looked it up and found the latter definition.

However, I too like Raging Dave’s answer, but I am unable to find a suitable example to show you all.

On the other hand….

Overdue Advert

Seeing as how I’ve been back from Spokane for a week now, I should probably get off my ass and let you know about the favorite place I visited while in the area.

It was a restaurant called G.W. Hunters

You can click the link to find their addy and such, but they don’t, that I’ve yet to find, have a website.

Located just across the state line in Post Falls, Idaho, Hunter’s is a family style restaurant with some of the most excellent food I had on the entire trip (which is saying something as my wife’s extended family knows about good food).

Hunter’s is not a chain restaurant, but that doesn’t stop them from having a wide variety of selection on the menu. And the portions are large enough to shut down the hungriest stomach.
If you’ve ever heard of The Claimjumper chain of restaurants, I am of the opinion that they are trying to imitate Hunters.

While making my selection I saw the food being brought out to the other tables and decided to ask for something a bit different, which was not on the menu but is one of my favorite meals of all time: I ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo with Grilled Chicken, minus the chicken, with a substitution of sausage.

The waitress took our orders and let me know that it shouldn’t be a problem. She came back out a moment later and said “The chef says he only has Elk Sausage. Will that still be all right?”

I think the drool coming out my mouth was answer enough, but I gave a sloppy “Yyetth!” as well.

Mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm.

To top it off, one of the guys at a table next to ours ordered Buffalo steak. I apparently missed that page of the menu.

If you’re in or near Spokane or Cour D alene, Post Falls is right between them. Stop in and waddle out.

It is a good sign

That these people don’t know anyone in the euro-hippie subculture.

I mean, if they did, they wouldn’t be having this problem

A Dutch museum said Friday it is having trouble getting its hands on a parasite that just about everybody else is anxious to avoid: crabs. The Rotterdam Natural History Museum has appealed for somebody—anybody—to give it a single crab louse for its collection, amid fears they may be dying out.

The donor’s anonymity, said curator Kees Moeliker, is guaranteed.

“We have over 300,000 species represented in our collection,” he said. “Even though most of them are not on display, that doesn’t mean small, unpopular insects are less important scientifically.”

Moeliker said he began hunting in earnest for the species, also known as “pubic lice,” last year after reading an article published by British doctors in the June issue of the journal of Sexually Transmitted Infections.

The article, titled “Did the Brazilian Kill the Pubic Louse?” found that crabs rates had fallen first in women, and several years later in men in Leeds. The authors hypothesized that the bikini wax known as “The Brazilian” that removes all or most pubic hair, might be to blame.

“When the bamboo forests that the Giant Panda lives in were cut down, the bear became threatened with extinction. Pubic lice can’t live without pubic hair,” Moeliker said.

Both Dutch and American health officials cited the difficulty of obtaining data on crab lice.

American health officials are having difficulty?

I guess that it’s official then that San Francisco is no longer part of America.

In Memorium: The Booty Eulogies

They say everything is bigger in Texas.

John Thomas might not have been born here, but they must have given him an honorary birth certificate.

He knew how to treat a lady. And he knew how to treat a cowgirl.

There is no more than a man can hope to achieve.

RNS Quote of the Day, 10/27/07

From South Park Pundit, who got to do what the rest of us Kalifornians dream of doing during the recent Southland fires:

Now I know how people in Freedomland must feel.

–Josh, the South Park Pundit

“Civil rights in a disaster zone,” indeed. Will this be the epiphany that pushes him over the edge and out of the Golden State? Time will tell….

SuperDeafy

DNMottoLogo.gifMy wife and I are not hearing-impaired (well, perhaps selectively so from time to time), but we’re going to the DeafNation Expo at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton today.

Many of my wife’s 12 siblings are deaf. One of my wife’s professors thought there might be a connection to the pesticides her Mexican-immigrant parents were exposed to during decades of working in the fields. Nobody in the family’s ever really bothered to follow that up; like most Latinos of my experience, they accept life as it is and move on.

SamRuizJrMagicAd.jpgAnyway, we’re going to be seeing my brother-in-law, professional magician Sammy Ruiz Jr., perform a magic show this afternoon at DeafNation. Should be fun. And the whole thing’s free and open to the general public, too, which I like.

Sammy was crowned World Deaf Magician a couple years back at the international competition in Moscow, Russia. He’s good.

And maybe we’ll get to see SuperDeafy! I can dance like that.

Notice how quiet the expo is in the video at the SuperDeafy link. Deaf events are nice in that way.

Weekend Listening

On Thursday, local talk radio dude, Bryan Suits spoke to Michael Flitcraft, who is a student at the University of Cincinatti, and who heads up his local chapter of Students for Concealed Carry on Campus about the “Empty Holster” protest.
Very cool interview and subsequent discussion.

You can listen to it by clicking this link, then scrolling down to Suits’ portion of the page, and then on the speaker icon for the day of the 25th.

The interview takes place in the first hour of his show, so there is a bit of program pertinent housekeeping in the beginning, but Bryan has a tendancy to be funny, so just hang tight. They’ve been kind enough to edit out the commercials for you.

PS – You may need to update your Quicktime player.
