A Question

Do we have a Solomon Amendment for cities like we do for colleges?

Members of the Berkeley City Council showed their opposition to a Marine Corps recruiting office in Downtown Berkeley last night.

Council members supported the two resolutions-one supporting anti-war protests and the other criticizing military recruitment practices-citing opposition to the war in Iraq, deceptive recruitment practices and the right to protest.

“By taking a stand against recruitment we are protecting the health and safety of our youth,” said PhoeBe sorgen, a member of the Berkeley Peace and Justice Commission. “I see the protest as taking a proud and courageous stand.”

Code Pink, a national anti-war grassroots organization, will be granted a parking spot for their regular Wednesday afternoon protests and will not need to apply for a sound permit for the next six months, under one resolution.

The other resolution more directly criticizes the presence of the center in Berkeley. The city manager was directed to send a letter to the U.S. Marine Corps saying they are “uninvited and unwelcome intruders” in the city.

Of course, I guess I should also ask if we have a federal department that would actually enforce an amendment like that?

A Bee in their Bonnett

And they put it there themselves, so go figure.

The Dweebie-Jeebies over at the Huff-a-ton Post are trying to play up a female CNN anchor making a “Oreo” joke that involved a black male reporter at CNN.

This is not your typical “Oreo” joke. Click the link and watch the video.

That dude will never complain about that comment. Because he, being male, has already thought of it before the anchor said anything and doesn’t care what she calls it, as long as he is in the middle.

Danny Shea’s byline should be: Stick up ass.

RNS Quote of the Day:01/30/08

Found, surprisingly, in the Seattle Times’ Letters to the Editor section over the weekend

The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.

Winston Churchill

And after last night’s results from Florida, I do have to ask if Floridians are getting to much fucking sun.

I think they’re brains are cooked. To the point of charring.

Hillary wins for the Dem. McCain for the Repubs.

Guess who scored from the three point line last night

Yep.

Stick-to-it-ivness

That is what the Opinion Research Business has. Sort of a pig-headed “well stand by that no matter how stupid we look of harm it does” type of psychotic illness.

Kind of like McCain and Amnesty.

ORB January 2008 – Update on Iraqi Casualty Data

Further survey work undertaken by ORB, in association with its research partner IIACSS, confirms our earlier estimate that over 1,000,000 Iraqi citizens have died as a result of the conflict which started in 2003.

Following responses to ORB’s earlier work, which was based on survey work undertaken in primarily urban locations, we have conducted almost 600 additional interviews in rural communities. By and large the results are in line with the ‘urban results’ and we now estimate that the death toll between March 2003 and August 2007 is likely to have been of the order of 1,033,000. If one takes into account the margin of error associated with survey data of this nature then the estimated range is between 946,000 and 1,120,000.

So, they go and get more bad data to confirm their earlier bad data which gave them a bad result.

I;m sure that if I were a Briton that I would have something witty to call them. Unfortunately, I’m not and all I can think of to say is: Head up ass. Full speed ahead.

Don’t mind us

We just want your firearms

At the start of the month, I did some backgrounding of an gunbigot named Lee Gaillard, wherein I pointed to his connection to a group called “The Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation“.

Now, in the sentence that followed their intro I called them “gun grabbers”. However, a commenter stopped by on Monday to leave this comment on that post. Her name was Ashley, and she said:

Correction: The Center for Arms Control and Non Proliferation advocates for a reduction in nuclear arms and does not include guns or 2nd amendment issues in their (our) work.

I stand corrected.

However, Ashley, if what you stated is truly what the group stands for, then mayhaps this should not be a picture that rotates through the front page of the organization’s website

Maybe that is not what Ashley stands for, but I believe something entirely different about the “CACNP”.

Obamageddon!

Oh Boy wowza! Did the lack of cheering for HRC ever get some dander flying over at the dKos Animal Farm and Petting Zoo.

When it was mentioned that HRC had campaigned in FL after pledging not to, some of them that Nutroots types got PO’d.

There are different rules for anything about Hillary at Dkos

The partisan “Obama” slant of the Dkos front-pagers is becoming unbearably obvious…and ridiculous.

Sore Obama losers – Unbelievable!!

Take note. The same individuals who don’t like Hillary because she’s too “moderate” are the same people that keep causing us to lose elections.

If I were the Republican nominee’s media consultant, I’d run an ad that states the following: Go to Dailykos.com.

HRC is going to win anyway—don’t know why I feel the need to wrestle with the far-left wing when they obviously don’t know shit about political strategy. Or winning an election.

So that is it folks, maybe if the Dems lose this election it will separate the “nuts from the fruits”, so to speak.

And if they win with Obama, this guy will probably be one of the first to get put “up against the wall” so to speak.

…there will be no haven for the Traditional Media Obama spinner, not their colleagues here on Dkos, unless something very dramatic happens in the next 6 days. No more ‘non-losses’ to whine about, no technical delegate leads, etc.

6 days to Obamageddon

I’ll have popcorn ready!

Its a two-fer!

Best line of the SOTU

Others have said they would personally be happy to pay higher taxes. I welcome their enthusiasm, and I am pleased to report that the IRS accepts both checks and money orders.

George W. Bush – 2008 State of the Union speech

While that was the best line, it was not the best speech.

Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) and the Conservative Response to Bush’s SOTU speech

If one standard is good

Two must be better!

Why is it that if I ever bonked my head and became a Democrat, and then stated that I was going to vote for Obama or Edwards because they’re men, I’d be labeled a sexist

But these broads get the teflon treatment when they say they would love to vote for HRC simply because she’s a woman, but won’t be because she’s trying to me a “typical male” candidate?

If men truly “ran the world”, idiocy such as this would be punishable by wedgies.

Na, na, na, na, hey, hey, hey

Goodbye.

And good riddance.

James Dobson, the founder and head of the evangelical media and counseling group Focus on the Family, is constantly described by the media as a power broker, kingmaker, and “the Christian right’s most powerful leader.” As such, his endorsement is seen as key by G.O.P. presidential candidates in the 2008 race. On Wednesday night, his political action website Citizenlink.com released assessments of the major Democratic and Republican candidates – and political observers immediately checked in to see whether Dobson’s organization was leaning toward Mike Huckabee or Mitt Romney, the two G.O.P. candidates who have made the biggest play for the evangelical vote. As Focus on the Family weighs in on the presidential race, however, an examination of the group’s records shows that its influence may not be all that it once was, and that its actual base may have become smaller.

I’ve written about this bloodsucker Dobson in the past. Hopefully his Rasputin-like group is going the way of the dodo, as they should.
