Portuguese .308 Question UPDATED

Okay, so the Radway Green .308 from AIM Surplus I pointed to in this post has already dried up. I ordered one case of 750 rounds at a cost (with shipping) of $412 or so before it vanished from the site. That’s about 55 cents per round. Ouch!! I’d contemplated buying another case every other month or so for the next few months, but that’s not possible anymore, as AIM appears to be out.

So now Midwest Outfitters is giving Jim Rawles’ Survivalblog readers first shot at a case of 1,000 Portuguese .308 rounds in sealed battlepacks (at left). Price $675. That’s 67.5 cents per round !??!! Actually more once shipping costs are included.
Is this a deal or a ripoff?

Are Portuguese .308 better or worse than British Radway Green .308?

With ammunition seemingly drying up everywhere, does it matter at this point?

UPDATE: The Radway Green has resurfaced at JandG Sales (right). They’re selling it for $450 for 750 rounds, or 60 cents per round. Shipping will add more.
Radway Green is Berdan-primed, thus not reloadable without effort. Anybody know if the Portuguese is Boxer-primed? If so, it might make more sense than the RG even at the higher price. The Portuguese is reportedly Berdan-primed, too.
And yes, I know I need to start reloading. 🙁

The Testosterone Tax

Yes, it is true.

There is a bill floating around the Washington State Legislaturethat will slap an 18.5% tax on pornography sales.

Basically, any guy, no matter which team you swing for, will be paying a special tax that 98% of women don’t won’t be paying.

To be honest, that is really my only reservation about this idea. I dont’ care what they want to slap a tax on it. If I don’t want to pay the tax, I won’t buy it (except on the internet where the tax won’t apply).

However, when it is this targeted towards just one gender, I start to want to question things.

Things like, does this just count towards videos and magazines and books and such?

If it will it also count towards dildos, buttplugs, wangdangdoodles and the like, then my objection is moot, but the bill doesn’t mention those. And if it does apply to them, I want someone on the floor of the House to be made to actually read the item’s names into the official record for posterity.

I read Nicole Brodeur’s column this morning and she’s going through a local sex shop and adding the tax to everything with a pricetag. But she’s the ditziest of the ditzes, so I’m not about to trust her reading of the bill.

And for that matter, if it is on everything in the store, are they just targeting sex shops? Because if so, won’t folks just save themselves some money by buying their KY at the drug store?

Knock me over with a feather

That is what a toddler could have done yesterday when I heard the news that a Thurston County Superior Court Judge told the SEIU and the WFSE, to paraphrase, to piss up a rope.

Like everywhere else that has been run by Democrats for decades, Washington State is facing a steep budget shortfall. The Governor told the state employee unions that because of htis, they’d have to hold off on their pay raises this year and possibly the next or face layoffs.

Of course, the unions being who they are, saw a an increase in the dues collected flying away and loosed their legal teams at Gregiore’s office.

Thankfully, the citizenry got the case decided on the side of sanity.

Gov. Chris Gregoire should have done things differently in negotiating with state employee unions, but her decision to shelve new contracts with the unions stands, Thurston County Superior Court Judge Anne Hirsch said Wednesday.

Gregoire confused the process when she had her budget director serve as both the negotiator and the person who later declared that contracts for raises and health benefits were financially unreasonable, the judge said.

But the governor does have the power to back out of contracts after the Oct. 1 deadline to finish talks, Hirsch said, noting the law separately requires the budget office to certify them as feasible.

The unions love “technicalities”. They love indecipherable language that can be turned six ways from Sunday to mean anything they want it to mean.

The Soundboard: Being Offensive Edition

I’d thought that I was impossible to offend. I figured that I’d seen most of what there is to see and hear, and that if someone was going to try and offend me, they would be more likely to just disgust me.

I mean, that was GG Allen’s whole schtick. Mappelthorpe’s “Bullwhip” was the perfect piece of art for the left: If you object to it because it was not only disgusting but also a waste of your tax dollars, you have to triple-preface your argument with “I’m not a homophobe”. And even if you do that, they’ll still acuse you of gay bashing or some such shit.

Sadly, with the Stimulus bill currently getting ready to get voted on, the US Congress has managed to do both offend and disgust me by treating me like the bullwhip handle.

So I’m going to try and return the favor. The Bloodhound Gang offends just about everyone I know, so here you go.

Then they need to quit voting Democrat

The MadRocketScientist finds one of those studies that reveals what most of us what we already knew

Today, the Center for Union Facts (CUF) released a unique new poll which found that 82% of non-unionized American workers would not like their jobs to be unionized. The poll, which was conducted by the Opinion Research Corporation of Princeton, New Jersey, clearly demonstrates that an overwhelming number of Americans have no interest in joining a union.

Despite this, Democratic leadership in Congress continues to push the deceptively-named Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA), which would effectively force millions of Americans into unions against their will by eliminating their right to a secret ballot vote. This poll indicates that there is no national mandate for a dramatic change in the law to make it easier to unionize. It further exposes the fact that EFCA’s backers are a small group of labor elites trying to push legislation that goes against the interests of America’s workforce.

Every time the EFCA comes up in the news the leftosphere goes nuts and writes paragraph after paragraph about how “it doesn’t take away the right to a secret ballot”.

What they rather easily always seem to forget to write about is that the unions know that less than 75% of people who would let themselves be harassed into signing a card would actually vote yes to join a union. They’ve studied this and that is the only reason why the unions want this bill to pass.
