I admit, spiders give me the heebie-jeebies. Â I rest easy knowing they are solitary creatures & thus even the most impressive can be terminated easily.
But this. Â Not cool, Mother Nature. Â Not cool.

In a not-so-unexpected move, the Department of Homeland Security has concluded that travelers along the nation’s borders may have their electronics seized and the contents of those devices examined for any reason whatsoever — all in the name of national security. According to legal precedent, the Fourth Amendment — the right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures — does not apply along the border.
Oh sure, you knew that bit. This is the new style:
By the way, the government contends the Fourth-Amendment-Free Zone stretches 100 miles inland from the nation’s actual border.
134 miles south of the northern Border. How far are you?
Am I the only one who finds it slightly disconcerting that the guy Obama has named to be the Deputy Director of the Securities & Exchange Commission Division of Investment Management is named Grim?
Doing their part for the Democrat Party’s offensive to enact sweeping civil right violations, the Leftosphere fired up their outrage machine a couple weeks back to tell the world about how outrageous it was that the NRA had a Wine Club.
They kept the pistons pumping last week in no small way with a trifecta of outrage-spewing tales:
On Monday, one of the brave souls at FDL wandered around the NRA-ILA website until they found a list of organizations the NRA suggests their members withhold their money from.
Of course, with their need for drama, these folks called it an “Enemies List”/
Apparently it worked, because the NRA has pulled the list down.
Later that evening, the leftosphere noticed that Charles Johnson at Little Green Footballs had posted about a company calling itself ZOMBIE INDUSTRIES had made a target that kinda, sorta, if you look at slightly from the side and squint, looked like President Obama.
You’d have thought that someone in the right-wing media complex had made a movie about assassinating the guy or something.
Then, on Thursday, after it was released that the MSNBC fanatic who shot up the Family Research Council got his background information for his murderous act from the Southern Poverty Law Center’s website, they were outraged that anyone would have the gumption to actually follow their model and slide some portion of the blame on the SPLC.
They made no bones that the only ones to blame were the folks at the FRC and even suggested that if they didn’t change their policies that they could expect more of the same.
Upcoming Outrage for this week: Pelosi and other members of Congress will bringing elementary school students from Newtown, CT to the Sate of the Union speech.
I didn’t know that Representative Pelosi’s district stretched that far east. Apparently her legs do, because she is still dancing in the blood of the victims.
With respect to the California Democrats’ announced package of radical, crazy, out-there gun-control bills (most of which I’m betting will never make it out of committee, btw) Gene Hoffman noted:
You[‘re] missing the absence of something. That absence is the attempt to ban handguns. That silence is deafening.
Overreach will make challenging semiauto rifle bans easier. Prevailing on those takes [them] off the table – just like handgun bans are now off the table.
Do you get it? Heller worked.
Earlier in the same thread, Gene noted:
Overreach makes the court cases to take this crap off the table much simpler. We’d prefer to hold the line here and we will all be working toward that when bill season is upon us in California. It is not.
I swear – some morons who know nothing about guns but love the press say stupid crap and gun owners go all a tizzy. Our side is going to be “dropping shoes” all year and each day we get further from December 2012, the better the environment gets for civil rights.

A victory in the legal case that is the semi-auto-rifle counterpart to Heller will take semi-auto bans off the table, just as Heller and McDonald took handgun bans off the table while defining the “Keep” portion of “Keep and Bear Arms” in the 2nd Amendment.
But before that, we need to get “Bear” nailed down, that’s the right-to-carry cases in the pipeline now.
The occasional commenter asks why I’m still in California. There are lots of reasons, but as a gun owner it’s because here is where the bad laws are made that will ultimately result in good court cases that eliminate arrows from the antis’ dwindling quiver.
The remarkable, even staggering decline in Muslim fertility rates is too great to be accounted for by rising incomes.
The 70% drop in Iran alone over the last 30 years is making me wonder if somebody in the bowels of the Reagan-era CIA weaponized these guys’s work somehow.
Probably not, as the potential blowback would be too great. No, it’s that invidious, inexorable infiltration of porn, the West’s greatest export outside of the concept of Liberty, IMO.
