Oh Hell NO!

This is truly pissing me off,

Austrians sold 800 sniper rifles to Iran

Iran has contracted to buy hundreds of high-powered rifles from an Austrian firm, the company’s owner said Wednesday. The sale drew an indirect rebuke from the United States, but Austrian government ministries said no laws were broken.

Wolfgang Fuerlinger, head of Steyr Mannlicher GmbH, confirmed the deal between his company and Iranian authorities and said U.S. Embassy officials had expressed concerns the arms could make their way to Iraq for use against American troops.

Not that I can afford their equipment, but I would never buy another S-M again.

Spread the word. Steyr Mannlicher’s American market sales need to drop to zero as of right now!

In the words of Kos “Screw Them!”

In other news, the IRS took pity upon me and left me with a decent portion of my paycheck. Therefor, I will be stopping by the smith’s this afternoon to pick up my Boomershoot rifle. In about 90 minutes I’ll be calling him to confirm it’s completion and making my appointment.

Provided it is complete, expect pics to follow this weekend.

The first order is in for accessories and ammunition, expect trigger-time after action reports in a couple weeks.

Good News / Bad News

The bad news is that they found a dead guy in the parking lot at my work yesterday afternoon.

A male of above average age (60-65) rolled onto the lot sometime in the early morning and put a 45 caliber round through his right temple. The bullet passed through and stuck in the B-pillar of his SUV.

The reason it took so long for my daytime co-workers to find him was that he parked in a corner and had the windows of his vehicle tinted so dark that you couldnt see inside. A couple people walked by in the early dawn hours and looked through the windshield, but just saw what looked to be a guy sleeping. Later that afternoon, when the sun was out in full, one of them figured it out as they were walking to their cars to go home.

As of two Mondays ago, I got moved to my new (smelly) location. Otherwise, a strange vehicle in the parking lot would have been part of my duties to check out and I would have found the guy.

I guess I could actually chalk up not finding a corpse in the Good News column, but even cold hearted little ol me cant figure out why people do that sort of thing, so I feel a little bit sorry for them.

Must be the domestication of marriage. Ill talk to the Analog Wife about it.

Maybe someday Ill tell you about the guy who was found to have done something quite similar, except with a pneumatic nail gun.

**

Speaking of guns, the Good News is that, hoping against hope that the IRS didnt snag too much out of the check resulting from last weeks hefty overtime run, I should be able to pick up my Boomershoot rifle this weekend. Ill know tonight when I get to work and get to see my paycheck.

Updates to follow.

Typical

I dont know what it is about the left, but they got a hard-on for hating them some Jews.

Ace finds this tidbit from everyones favorite fake Indian, Ward Churchill, in the NY Sun..

Prior to this incident,

Mr. Churchills scholarly reputation was based mainly on a squalid tract called A Little Matter of Genocide (1997), in which he argued that the murder of European Jews was not at all a fixed policy objective of the Nazis and accused Jews of seeking to monopolize for themselves all that beautiful Holocaust suffering that other groups would very much like, ex post facto, to share.

I swear, it must be something in the water at those universities.

Why am I not surprised?

The Dems complain about cronyism and living off a legacy when the Repubs hire their friends, even the ones who are over-qualified for the position, or get placement in a good university.

How strange, this is the first I have heard on this matter, that I found at the blog of The Grouchy Old Cripple (in Atlanta) and Cynthia Tucker at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (subscription req’d),

In the years after her husband’s assassination,

Coretta Scott King tapped into a deep wellspring of guilt, regret and longing to raise funds for a memorial: the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change. In 1981, she completed a landmark $8 million building, with her husband’s tomb as its centerpiece. The King Center was to be a dynamic institution that would keep the dream alive.

But the center never came close to its potential. Now, it is close to collapse. Nearly 40 years after King’s death, the facility is crumbling; educational and advocacy programming is nonexistent; staff layoffs have claimed even the janitor.

The King Center has been ruined by the King family.

King’s heirs have always been at least as interested in self-aggrandizement and material comfort as they have been in advocating civil rights and social justice. Even as fund-raising has lagged, King’s adult sons Martin III and Dexter continue to pay themselves six-figure salaries as executives of the institution. They have even mortgaged a nearby landmark, their father’s birth home.

Now that the center is barely able to meet payroll, its staff cut by nearly three-quarters and repairs desperately needed on the leaking roof and the crumbling reflecting pool, King Center advocates want more government funds to help with the estimated $11 million needed for maintenance. According to former U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young, who was once a close confidant of King’s and continues to be a staunch defender of his heirs, “A lot of money needs to go into maintenance, and that can’t be the responsibility of the family.”

Oh Bullshit! You built it, you have to keep gathering funds for it’s maintenance.

It is a little something called ‘RESPONSIBILITY’.

You broke it (literally), you buy it!

Perhaps, if you tried actually reading some of the things your father wrote, you’d know about it.

My tax dollars are not to be used to fund anyones lifestyle, least of all those who deserve it the least.

Although, I wouldnt be too object to Ms. Tuckers suggestion,

Congress should not set aside another dime for the King Center until the family agrees to deed the facility lock, stock and barrel over to the National Park Service.

Give this a couple weeks. If the King family doesnt get what it wants, the media will jump on this story and start implying that Bush and Company are all racists who dont like Kings legacy.

Id put money on that.

No, Im not talking about a high ranking al Qaida member. Im talking about an enemy journalist.

HOUSTON MAN CHARGED WITH EXPORTING NIGHT VISION LENSES TO IRAN

A part-time cameraman who worked for NBC found out the hard way that “Akbar,” the international broker he had met on eBay, wasn’t really looking to ship stolen night-vision lenses to Iran.

Instead, the broker was a federal customs agent, and the cameraman, Erik Kyriacou, 24, of North Babylon, found himself in a Philadelphia courtroom Monday pleading guilty to four federal counts, including trying to export technology to an “axis of evil” country…

Kyriacou was arrested last April after offering four Astroscope night-vision lenses for sale in a public auction on eBay, then privately negotiating an $8,000 sale price with the undercover agent, court records show. He shipped them to an address in Vienna, Austria, in January 2004, according to the court papers.

He had stolen them from NBC, where he worked as a news camerman, Welsh said.

Crackin’ the Whip

The poor wittle fwenchies lost their delovely maximum 35 hour work week yesterday,

French kiss adieu to the 35-hour week

Much of France was due to bid farewell to its guaranteed short working week last night with parliament set to pass an unpopular labour reform bill that is feeding discontent with the Government of Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin.

Mr Raffarin insisted yesterday that big protest marches at the weekend would not divert his drive to undo the compulsory maximum 35-hour week, the measure that was the prime legacy of the previous socialist government.

The new legislation will allow people to work up to 48 hours a week if they and their employers agree.

The reform of the flagship socialist law has rallied the feuding opposition and the unions in common cause.

In reality, employers will be able to force longer hours for the same pay, they say.

“What is being offered is a fool’s bargain,” socialist former labour minister Martine Aubry said.

Yes Martine, your offer to keep the work week at a maximum of 35 hours was a fool’s bargain. Only fools would take it.

After working 58+ hours last week and on track to do so again this week, I can honestly say that my heart pumps purple piss for you Martine.
