Hey, Eason

This is what I think of when you use the word “targeted” when referring to the US military causing the deaths of journalists.

tag1.gif

Targeting is an action based upon a conscious decision. You can parse words all you want, but you know what you said, and you know what it means. Any other stance is disingenuous and patently dishonest. Think it’s too harsh a criticism? Well, so do I when you accuse our military of deliberately silencing those they don’t like. It’s a simple matter to clear up – ask the WEF to release the videotape of the session. If I’m wrong and you never said anything that could even vaguely be construed as an indictment of our military’s actions with respect to journalists, I’ll be on the front line of those apologizing (like you care what an insignificant blogger thinks, anyways, right?) If you did say the things reported, then you have a lot more apologies to offer than I, although I’m sure they’ll never be forthcoming.

h3. Update and request

Well, that didn’t take long. Already have hate mail about how I’m

1) Belittling the lives of the reporters who have died – not my intent, and obviously the “kill tag” is not a real item. It is just to illustrate the first thought that came to my mind when I heard Eason talk about our military targeting journalists.

2) Pointing out that I am obviously a racist asshole for making foreign journalists worth more. *Sigh*

So, is it over the top, or not?

Washington Political Developments

I decided I couldnt really file this under the banner of Count ANY Vote so it gets separate billing.

If you remember the last CAV entry, youll recall that a man had been arrested for threatening the life of Christine Gregoire.

Youll also remember her taking a page out of the Bill Clinton handbook and blaming Right Wing Talk Radio for inciting him.

This is the guy,

martinelli.JPG

Story
Martelli was arrested for threatening to kill Governor Christine Gregoire and her children. But he says he made the comment only to his therapist, and just to make a point about abortion.

“There was not a threat there,” Martelli insists. “This doctor has interjected all this and blown it way out of proportion. What was mentioned was Christine Gregoire’s name and abortion.”

The therapist reported it to the State Patrol, which saw it as more than a political statement.

Martelli insists it was not a real threat. “All this extra security for Christine Gregoire and then my name in there,” he says. “I don’t appreciate that. And, I just want to set the record straight.”

Martelli will get that chance in court. He’s scheduled to go to trial for threatening the Governor on March 14. Meantime, he’s free on $10,000 bail.

Well see.

Next up, this is driving the left nuts here in Washington,

State Supreme Court Throws Out Estate Tax

The state Supreme Court threw out Washington’s estate tax Thursday, causing a potential loss of $430 million over the next two years at a time when lawmakers already are facing a $1.8 billion spending gap.

The unanimous decision by the nine-member court concluded that “when an estate has no federal estate tax, there is no obligation to pay any state estate tax.” It ordered a refund of estate taxes collected by the Department of Revenue since Jan. 1, 2002.

The refund could be as high as $150 million, said Mike Gowrylow, a spokesman for the state agency. He said the $430 million includes that refund, and the state’s reliance on $277 million that was expected to be collected from 2005 to 2007.

Was expected to collect I think that says just about everything about my Democrat controlled state.

Why do I say that? Well, the Dems came in and promised to make audits more frequent. As I mentioned just before the election on November 2nd, our State Auditor was made a eunuch in terms of the scope of his power many years ago by the Dems in this state and waste has been running rampant around these parts.

Well, the Dems are fulfilling their campaign promises…sort of.

House bill probes whether business tax breaks are working

The state House on Monday passed a bill requiring audits of the state’s roughly 500 tax breaks for businesses to determine how much they cost, who they’re benefiting and whether they’re achieving the intended goals.

“We have fallen, I think, in the eyes of the public in terms of their view and their confidence in the state tax system,” said Rep. Jim McIntire, D-Seattle, who sponsored the bill. “This is just a modest step toward restoring their confidence.”

The bill, which goes now to the Senate, wouldn’t kill any tax breaks. It would create a citizen’s committee to decide which tax breaks should be studied, then directs an audit committee to report back to the Legislature.

Oh sure, the bill itself wouldnt get rid of any of the tax-breaks for businesses, but if this Blue-Ribbon-Committee of sorts decides that theyre not worth it, how much do you want to bet that this cash strapped legislature would dump it in a heartbeat.

And the Dems wonder why the Gubernatorial race was so close.

Two Hours!

Two Freaking Hours! That is all it took for the palestinians to break the cease fire!

Israeli Military Reports Cease-Fire Violation

It took just a few hours for the first violation of the new Israeli-Palestinian cease-fire to be reported.

The Israeli military says Palestinians opened fire on a car near a Jewish settlement on the West Bank and threw firebombs at troops that came to investigate. No injuries were reported.

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas met in Sharm El Sheik, Egypt, Tuesday, and pledged to stop the cycle of attacks and military retaliation.

Abbas said he told Sharon that Palestinians will halt all violence against Israelis. Sharon also made a similar pledge, saying, “Israel will cease all its military activity against all Palestinians everywhere.”

The leaders didn’t sign any formal cease-fire document.

Which is good, because it wouldnt have been worth the paper it would have been written on.

They’re Happy to be Ignorant

That is what a lot of leftists think about Americans, especially the ones who voted for Bush.

But this time, we’re talking about those junior Americans, the Canucks.

Nuclear siren plan debated

Forty-six air-raid-style sirens, purchased for $1.6 million more than a year ago for Pickering and Darlington nuclear stations, are gathering dust in an Ajax warehouse while Pickering politicians try to come up with an alternative that doesn’t make as much noise.

In Pickering, local opposition to the 27 planned sirens has been strong in the Bay Ridges and West Shore communities, where residents feel the sirens would lower property values and possibly create panic if they ever sounded.

“I’m 100 per cent against them (sirens),” said Doug Dickerson, city councillor for the area. “They are archaic, World War II-vintage, like those used during the air raids over London,” he said in an interview.

Maybe the councilor would be happier if the nuclear power plants just paged everyone when the meltdown starts?

In related news;

Some of the people in the small town of Orting, Washington evacuated when the Lahar sirens went off yesterday. Unfortunately, it was an accidental signal.

For those who do not live near the foot of a dormant volcano, a ‘Lahar’ is the mudflow caused by volcanic activity.

Officials are trying to figure out how sirens warning of a mud flow from Mount Rainier were inadvertently activated on Tuesday morning.

At least three of the six lahar sirens in Orting went off just after 8 a.m.

Officials said there was no sign of volcanic unrest at Mount Rainier.

Why do I hate the left?

Because they belittle the sacrifices of men like “Paul Smith”:http://www.sptimes.com/2004/webspecials04/medalofhonor/default.shtml

Go read the story in the St. Petersburg times. Then draft a nice note to John Kerry and Ted Kennedy.

Naaaaaw, can’t happen here,

“Right?”:http://dutchreport.blogspot.com/2005/02/dutch-flag-prohibited.html

I especially like the bit about the Dutch boy being asked if he was a racist for having the audacity to show his country’s flag on his backpack. I loved his answer – “no, my mom is black”.

Oh, yeah, and Muslims aren’t a “race” – they’re a religion – big difference.
