I’m Popular!

Or at least my work location is.

Some or most of you may know, I work in the trash and recycling industry. At my place of employ I changed offices within the last month or so. I went from what is called our “Operations Building’ to the scale house at our transfer station.

I went from a slightly smelly locale to a very stinky one. I wrote about it here and here.

As you could guess, not too many folks like to hang out where I am because of the odorous confines. Well, that has all changed! I got one of these!

coffeemachine.jpg

I opened the door to the scale house the other day and had this very strong coffee smell hit me like a brick. I first wondered if we had just emptied one of the many local coffee packaging factories in town (I live in Seattle, duh!). But no, I was guided to the vestibule area of the building and shown that by the girls in the day crew.

I immediately thought “jeez, what am I running now, an espresso stand!?!”

Again, no. The thing is a completely self serve coffee press. Super strong coffee, 50/50 and decaf.

Want a Mocha? Hit the button brother!

It even serves the best freaking hot chocloate I have had this side of melting the stuff down myself. Which is good because I don’t drink coffee.

AND IT IS ALL FREE!

Now, being that my prime directive at work is that of “Map Geek” and I get paid to know where everthing and everyone is at, I started getting used to the long haulers who were new in town coming into the vestibule and asking for directions when they’d get lost.

It only took about two weeks for my directions requesting customer base to triple as word got out that I was a walking/talking MapQuest program. Before this machine showed up it was not unusual for me to get 6-8 truckers a week in there.

This machine is going to double that.

Oh, and BTW, doun’t let truckers play all tough with you. At least once a night I hear “Oooh, you got cocoa!”

Forgetful Professor

I don’t know know where I put my mind last weekend, but I forgot that February was Black History Month.

You see, at the University of Immaculate Observation, where I teach a course in Classical Birthday Suit Perception two days a week, we don’t really look at our calenders all too often and it just kind of slipped my mind.

I intend to correct that error now.

Long Week

Or at least it seemed that way. Somehow though, I only racked up 59 hours and change. Hmm.

Anyway, I’m whupped so it is goofy quiz time!

First, I found this one at Drumwaster’s Rants

I am 64% Asshole/Bitch.
Sort of Assholy or Bitchy!

I am abrasive, some people really hate me, but there may be a group of other tight knit assholes and bitches that I can hang out with and get me. Everybody else? Fuck ‘em.

Pretty damn close. Especially the “Everybody Else” part. Especially after this week.

Next up, this one was at MTPolitics a while back

I am 41% Metrosexual.
Not Too Metrosexual, Sugar!

I may own more than two pair of dress shoes, and maybe a designer suit, but I don’t mind going to the grocery store in sweats. And I may even go a day or two without a shower.

I think it was ‘the phone matching the blender’ question that put me over the top. They’re both white and blue.

Add to that, I carry one of these everywhere I go. I may leave it in the truck, but it holds all my gear (2-wirebound map books, gun magazine/s of the day, wallet, cell phone, PDA, sunglasses, 8 CDs, 4-1911 mags and my lunch).

And it ain’t a Murse, chucklehead.

All in all, these aren’t that far off. In my formative years ‘The Sensitive Tough Guy’ act worked well on women. Or at least the ones 18-25 year old males wanted to hang out with.

Now, off to sleep. I’m rolling the dice, hoping for 10 hours in a row.

Any doubt that our new Governor

“is a Democrat?”:http://www.2theadvocate.com/stories/030505/new_cuba001.shtml

What an absolute disgrace. Maybe she’ll take David Duke with her. You know, as a way to bolster the image of Louisiana. Pretty soon, we won’t be able to make fun of Mississippi.

Us: “Hey, Mississippi is the poorest state in the union, even Louisiana has more money”

Them: “Oh, yeah? Well, at least our governor isn’t a communist suck-up.”

You can take the soldiers away from Mardi Gras

But not even the Army can take the Mardi Gras out of the soldiers.

Found at BlackFive, this link will take you the personal website of Lainey, a member of the Louisiana National Guard MedCorps stationed in Iraq.

Mardi Gras seems to be second nature to these folks and you should go through the gallery to see them blow off a little steam with beads and “floats” like this one.

I’m sure the Doc will be especially appreciative of the banner on this ‘float’.

Thank you Ms. Lainey, for your pics and your service.

I felt the urge

For an anti-Canadaian rant coming along when I first read this story about a shootout between drug dealers and members of the RCMP in Edmonton, Alberta.

But I’ve had a couple hours to cool off and all I would like to do now is offer my condolences to the families of the four murdered Mounties and to their fellow RCMP members.

Recurring Theme

The only thing *universal* about this health care is the “lack of patient care in favor of bureaucracy.”:http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml;sessionid=SAGT1GKG3G0Y3QFIQMGSM5WAVCBQWJVC?xml=/news/2005/03/04/nhs04.xml&sSheet=/portal/2005/03/04/ixportaltop.html

But hey, they’ll try and fix her broken shoulder in late March. Maybe.

I especially liked this bit:

bq. *_But his (Health Sec. John Reid – ed) call for patients to write to him about their treatment backfired when Mrs Dixon disclosed that her Euro MP had written to Mr Reid about her case five weeks ago and had received no reply._*

Typical bureaucrat – only feels the need to be responsive when his butt is on the line.

Breakin’ 2

Ballistic Boogaloo

Here’s a quick shot of myself breaking the Boomershoot rifle in last Saturday.

And here is a pic of the new scope base I bought from a master rifleman and master riflesmith, Jim Cloward, on Sunday with its 25MOA slant.

The new rings arrived in the post yesterday and the entire optics package should be reattached and boresighted by this afternoon for some more shooting this weekend.

When does a country

decide to surrender sovereignty without so much as a fight? When does it choose to abandon any responsibility for self defense, and the defense of her citizens? Oh, well – at least they have Kyoto.
