I’ve mentioned before how PBS’ Newshour is still the news source of choice for the American elites, particularly in academia and media. So this is an awesome smackdown, sweetly delivered by the great Joyce Lee Malcolm.

She didn’t exactly give what I’d call a rousing defense of the 2nd A. But, as you say, for the target audience of the News Hour, it’s the sort of thing that WOULD get through to them, so from THAT perspective, pretty righteous.

Well, yes, it’s certainly not Fox or MSNBC. But that’s the point. In these circles, what counts is quiet, calm, devastating statements of certainty about subjects, because what the audience is doing is looking to the NewsHour to deliver the opinions of, and discussions with, absolute experts on whatever the topic might be. In just a couple of sentences she buried any possibility of AWBs and mag bans being Constitutional, in the minds of curious elite observers who might have assumed otherwise. Now they won’t.
