What we owe the Athenians is the warning heeded by our Founding Fathers. True Democracy is possibly the worst form of government ever invented. Unrestrained mob rule resulted in the murder of Socrates, Alcibiades’ in absentia trial and the debacle of the Sicilian campaign. Mob rule was a complete failure.
