I feel inadequate

that I still don’t know how to ride a motorcycle.

Ah, well, that’s what the second 40 years of life are for, right? Life truly begins at 40, so I’ve heard. 🙂

Give it a try; you’ll either think “Eh”, or it’ll be addictive.

It’s very addictive. Since 4/17/08, my right leg is held together with stainless steel, & I’m short one bike–and I can’t wait to get back on one.

If you can ride a bicycle and drive a stick shift then you can easily learn to ride. Just be sure to wear the appropriate protective gear. You can’t eliminate the risk that comes with being on two wheels, but you can mitigate it.

Bikes do certain things that require non-intuitive or even counter-intuitive thought and action, and that’s what requires a bit of re-training to avoid obstacles like cars, otherwise when you think you’re steering away from it you’re actually steering into trouble.
I like a dual-sport because then I’m not limited to the ribbon of asphalt between the curbs, I can go across lawns and medians, and through hedges! 🙂

60, I’m told, is the new 40. From my own experience, that’s true until you hurt yourself doing something you probably shouldn’t have been doing at 40, then it’s the new 75.
That said, I’m 63, have been riding since I was 17, and wouldn’t be without a bike.
    1. Assume no one can see you, even if you’re in front of them.
    2. Use whatever part of the lane leaves you with the most room to evade.
    3. Use the front brake.
