Dr Joe Responds

Joe tried to comment on yesterday’s post but it was flagged as spam. This is what he said:

Actually my hypothesis was formed almost exactly 1.5 years ago.

See here and here.

I did a little bit of math on the topic but to say my cosmological math is weak would be a gross understatement. What results I did come up with seemed plausible though. That is–the “background radiation left over from the big bang” appears to have a similar temperature to that of the event horizon of a black hole composed of all the matter of our known universe.

I recently listened to the book Parallel Worlds and was surprised and pleased to hear that others had explored the same hypothesis–at least part of it anyway. No mention was made of the direction the black hole being on the time axis. This is a critical component and the easiest thing to prove as being consistent with the known facts.

If he lost you on the direction-of-the-black-hole-being-on-the-time-axis stuff, see here and this quote from the original article:

Incidentally, this approach also suggests a solution to another of the great problems of cosmology: why time seems to flow in one direction but not in the other, even though the laws of physics are time symmetric.

Poplawski says the origin of the arrow of time comes from the asymmetry of the flow of matter into the black hole from the mother universe. “The arrow of cosmic time of a universe inside a black hole would then be fixed by the time-asymmetric collapse of matter through the event horizon,” he says.

In other words, our universe inherited its arrow of time from its mother.

He says that daughter universes may inherit other properties from their mothers, implying that it may be possible to detect these properties, providing an experimental proof of his idea.

Theories of everything don’t get much more ambitious than this. Entertaining stuff!

Oh, and turns out Joe did the math too. Elegant.

SEXIST! Who says it’s a Daughter universe and not a Son universe? Boys like to play with bow-and-arrows, girls just play with bows and ribbon curls…
