Some People’s Children

From what I’ve seen of this world in almost 37 years, certain people just seem to wake up in the morning feeling the urge to go out and piss off as many people as they possibly can and can’t go back to sleep that evening until they believe they’d succeeded.

Stephen Herrington is one of those people, taking the “bitter clinger” idea to a realm beyond civility.

In perspective, there are Second Amendment Democrats as well as the higher profile bumper sticker patriot gun rights zealots. All of whom, for various reasons, believe in the right to keep and bear arms. Obama appears to be one of them, if for no other reason than respect for the document and the wisdoms of those who wrote it. The wording of the Amendment is slightly confusing, but the courts have consistently upheld the interpretation that what is meant is that individual ownership of arms are a requisite to a forming a militia. Most would be more comfortable with some more detail, but the subject seems so fraught with emotion that argument becomes futile, quickly. And the question of to what purpose one would form a militia is sadly equivocal as well. What is difficult to envision is a situation in our future that would crystallize the intent of the Amendment into clarity.

The era in which firearms were a practical necessity is substantially and thankfully over as of the end of the 19th century. They are possessed now for what most honestly amounts to a hybrid of sport, nostalgia and primordial anxiety.

…..

The Constitution, which the guarantee of possession of arms is intended to defend, is more likely to be upheld by Obama, the Constitutional Scholar, than by any President in modern history including FDR.

As you can see, not a terribly well thought out or well researched post, though I’m fairly positive Herrington believes he has hit the nail on the head. It happens quite often to those who wear their Mensa membership on their sleeve.

So if you don’t mind reading drivel that oozes condescension, or are just having too good a day, hit the link.

That last paragraph causes me to question his “Mensa” status. A person would have to be down in the low double-digit IG range to believe that. And said IG would have to be even lower for one to be so stupid as to put that paragraph in print; thus displaying one’s stupidity for all the world.

I could read that last paragraph as sarcasm if I knew the writer had researched his history of the 20th century, gun rights, and the words and deeds of BO. However the preceeding article indicates the writer isn’t aware of the facts, so….

THe phrases “pulling the wool over your own eyes” and “blackwhite” come to mind when I read this. Then Living Color’s “Cult of Personality” starts playing in my head.
