European Nannystatism on the March

Sorry for the lateness of these. I found them while the in-laws were in town two weeks ago and lost them in my links file.

First up, the Socialist Utopia of Spain. Where the Spanish Parliament is nearing the passage of a bill that would REQUIRE men to “share domestic responsibilities.

They’re doing this because every other aspect of life in Spain is wonderful and worry-free.

Now to those who think I’m being to harsh on the Spanish, just let me tell you two things;

#1. I am a househusband. I do laundry, exclusively clean the kitchen and bathroom (in that order), as well as maintain/repair all the plumbing, electrical and mechanical devices in the house as well as the lawn mover and the vehicles.

#2. If a woman doesn’t like the fact that her husband is a lazy sod, there is this thing called ‘marriage counseling’ and this other thing called ‘divorce’. If she can’t figure out how to make either of those two things work, maybe she deserves to scrub floors, because she isn’t very damn smart.

In the UK, on the government run television station BBC 2, there is a show called “Top Gear” that focuses on modified automobiles and vehicles in the upper echelon of performance.

This show is hated by nanny-statists, enviro-whackos and social engineers alike. So much so that a group calling themselves Transport 2000 is demanding that the BBC remove the show from the airwaves and replace it with a different show “that promotes sensible driving in sensible vehicles”.

Transport 2000, which is committed to reducing the environmental and social effects of transport, argues that Top Gear falls short in its responsibility to educate viewers and acknowledge the interests of women drivers.

OMFG! Now TV has to be socially responsible for people’s driving habits?

I am awaiting an update in the story saying that the BBC has caved. They’re worse than the French in that regard.
