C-Day Minus Six

There have been discussions all over the blogosphere and the MSM about a “War on Christmas, but from what I’ve seen, it looks to be more of an “Insurgency Against Christmas.

Yes, there are individuals who make complaints against public displays of Christianity at this time of year and some of them are taken up by the ACLU and pushed forward, but if it was an actual ‘War’, the ACLU would be directing these people, not playing hall monitor for the libtards when they claim to be oppressed by a dead tree covered in baubles or by half-sized plastic figurines with lights in them standing over a manger. This should be classified as more of a ‘guerilla action’ than an actual organized war effort.

Here in Seattle, one gentleman had had enough and actually did more than bitch, moan and whine (which is about all I’ve seen out of anyone else) and organized a very small silent demonstration outside of downtown Seattle’s largest retail complex, Westlake Mall. Word got around and he ended up having dozens, if not hundreds of people show up and local business owners joining in, including one parking lot owner donating his 188 space lot to them for the day. His boss also ended up giving him the day off paid.

And what got him started on this? He heard about a local school ditching their ‘Giving Tree’ after a single parent complained. Good for him, but where were the parents whose children also go to that school? Did they organize a demonstration in support of the tree or demand the school district administration hold an emergency meeting to discuss the issue? No, those who could manage to come up with the gumption called the school district and complained and that is where it ended. What the hell did they expect to happen if that is all the support they could get off their asses and muster?

I’m about as sick of the “War on Christmas meme as the lefties are for the simple fact that there is a lot of talk, but very little action. The title was only selected because it is easy to say and remember, not because of actual facts, and we all know how annoying it is when the left pulls that crap.

Yes, I celebrate Christmas, but for the most part it is just because it is a tradition full of fun and family. If my family were Jewish, I’d celebrate Hanukah with them. I’m not a Christian and I don’t believe in the divine birth so I’m not celebrating the baby Jesus. If you want to, that’s fine with me, just as my piggybacking on the holiday should be fine with you.

I’m also as annoyed at the jackasses who force their minority opinions on the majority as the next person on the right side of the aisle, but I’m not going to fight someone else’s fight for them. if someone says “Happy Holidays” to me, I say “Merry Christmas” right back at them. If someone tells me that I can’t say “Merry Christmasâ€? to whom I choose, they’re stand a good chance of seeing my rude side. When people have tried this in the past, like telling me “I don’t celebrate Christmasâ€? or “Hello, I’m Jewishâ€?. My kind responses, respectively, were “Sucks to be you, don’t it?â€? and “Good for you. Wish me a Happy Hanukah then.â€? My rude responses would get me kicked off the internet.

When my ex-boss at my former place of employment told me I should say “Happy Holidays, I turned to her and said “No very sternly like you do to a dog and went back to what I was doing previously and that was the end of that.

If I had kids, I’d already be directly involved in the school and the district and a response to the jackasses would be so swift as to make their heads spin and their soy milk curdle.

Any less would be letting my child down.

But I don’t and I’m not about to do the grunt work for someone too lazy to do it themselves. If a school district wants to play reindeer games, I’ll let them. I’ve got very little stake in that field and I’m not about to waste my time there while someone who says they’re offended just sits around on their duff and complains about the school ‘removing Christmas’.

If this “War on Christmas trash talking without action crap pops up next year, I’m going to extremely pissed off to the point of me becoming a wart on the ass of those who talk but do nothing. I simply cannot stand whiny bitches.

Banging my head on the desk again

Trying to knock loose the reason as to why anyone was surprised to find out that Bush ordered wire taps on international calls.

While we didn’t KNOW they were doing it, please tell me that no one here was surprised to find this out? (please say no)

It is our job as citizens to think of the worst things our government could do to impede on our freedoms and suspect them of doing it. Not to be paranoid, but to be vigilant and watchful. It didn’t take September 11th, 2001 to get me to think they were tapping international calls, remember who was President before Bush. Why would the feds quit because the Administration changed? We all know that they don’t listen to anyone unless it fits their agenda.

It is just like the internet; when the government controls the main distribution hubs, exactly what kind of privacy can we expect? I may be semi-anonymous to you, but I know I’m not to them. Log in, log out, where we go and what we say is all available to them if they want it.

This is not to say that I like it, because just about everything the fed does bothers me, so I don’t sweat it, I’m just careful.

The same thing goes for me with the Patriot Act; I don’t like one single part of it, but I figure that they’re doing it anyway and as it has been since the beginning of history; Better a Known Enemy, Than One That is Unknown.

If I know what some of their plays are, I can design a better work around.

Do you like having a unique GPS signal emanating from your cell phone? Too bad, when you upgraded Uncle Sam included a gift that is of little or no use to you but everything to them. I kept my ancient Motorala until it started flaking out on me and I had to upgrade. Now I know that if I need to bye-bye, I have to leave the phone on the roof of the local postal hub center or give it to one of the neighborhood homies.

While I can laugh at the liberal attempts at moral sanctimony with this story, I am having a difficult time understanding their shocked reactions. I figured that their hatred of Bush would have left them unsurprised; that and I’m sure I remember some of them accusing him of it years ago. I would like to hear a few more of them demand to know who the Dems were that knew about this though. So far, I’ve got one of the Klueless Kos Kids getting all huffy about this on the front page and nothing else.

But since when have they ever done anything to please me?

So, to review: Government is not your friend and will try to make you its bitch at every possible opportunity.

That is all.

Blindfolded at Sunrise

Have the firing squad start cleaning the dust off of those rifles

A U.S. Army officer was arrested on Thursday for stealing between $80,000 (45,000 pounds) and $100,000 in funds from the U.S. governing administration in Iraq and using the money to install a deck and hot hub in her New Jersey home.

The U.S. Justice Department said Army Reserve Lt. Col. Debra Harrison, 47, who served with the Coalition Provisional Authority, was arrested on charges involving bribery, money laundering and fraud.

Harrison is the second army officer and the fourth person charged in the past few weeks in connection with the scheme.

The Justice Department said Harrison was on active duty for the U.S. Army in 2003 and 2004, and was responsible for developing contract solicitations and ordering contracts for reconstruction efforts for the Coalition Provisional Authority — South Central Region.

According to court papers, Harrison and her co-conspirators accepted money and gifts in return for using their official positions to rig contract bids.

An affidavit filed in the U.S. District Court in New Jersey said she used the money to add a deck and put in a hot tub at her home in Trenton, New Jersey, accepted a Cadillac Escalade worth about $50,000 and a $6,000 airline ticket from a contractor in return for rigging the bids.

Harrison was also accused of laundering funds from the CPA.

Yeah, I know that she’ll only get time at Leavenworth for this, although she deserves more for this stain, but can I at least ask for a year per $1000 she stole sentence to begin after her commission times out? We all know that she won’t be making small rocks out of large ones and will spend her time in military prison washing the uniforms of those who are and possibly marching up and down the square, so why not have her do it for a long ass time?

RNS Quote of the Day

It is obvious that the ideological root of statism (or collectivism) in the tribal premise of primordial savages who, unable to conceive of individual rights, believed that the tribe is a supreme, omnipotent ruler, that it owns the lives of its members and may sacrifice them whenever it pleases to what ever it deems to be its own good.

AYN Rand: The Roots of War – 1966

—————

Today’s paraphrase:

People who believe in government above all else, also known as Marxists and/or Socialists, find it impossible that any good can come from leaving an individual to his own devices and therefore seek to control the individual and if they cannot do that, eliminate him.

Done and Done

My spending on Christmas items is now over with. My only regret is that the info I wanted on the item I bought yesterday turned out to be inconsequential and I could have just ordered the damn thing. But nonetheless, I am now done.

I was out getting last minute gift cards yesterday and discovered that the Olive Garden chain of restaurants has a better stocked bar than their sister restaurant, Red Lobster. Not much better, but they actually stock two different brands of single malt scotch; the usual Glenlivet AND MacAllan 12.

I’m still in search of a local place that isn’t in downtown Seattle (have to pay the stadium tax there) that serves decent food and carries my personal favorite, Cragganmore, so that I might finish off a good meal with a good, heavy chocolate dessert and a neat glass of the Crag, but at least I now know that OG has a decent Speyside available (I can’t stomach the Glen since Seagram’s took over).

Speaking of Cragganmore, I know it is getting near Christmas because I bought my annual bottle of it yesterday as well. I’m not a big hard alcohol drinker, but when I want to treat myself, that is what I choose, and it usually lasts me until at least October because I don’t treat myself very often.

The other reason I don’t go buying much hard liquor is that the state of Washington has a monopoly on the sale of it and you have to go to their stores to buy it. Getting so directly taxed raises my bile level to almost uncontrollable amounts and I immediately come home and obliterate their tax stamp to help me forget the experience.

The main reason I didn’t show back up here yesterday because of my firearms maintenance habits. I came home from dealing with the general public at around noon and went back to bed for a couple hours. Upon waking, I did my weekly firearms dust inspection routine and discovered not one, but two specks of dust in the barrel of Barak, which meant he got the whole nine yards including a cleaning of the scope glass. By the time that was done, I decided to just wait until later to post.

And that is about from here. I’m working on a post about my view of “The War on Christmas today along with some other stuff to hit you with this week.

Since Professor Booty has the topic backsides covered, I’ll leave you with this short video I’m finding hilarious at the moment.

Caution: probably NSFW (but it’s Sunday, so that shouldn’t be a problem) and it may leave you with an urge to buy some chocolate.

It’s Beginning

To look a lot like Christmas. Especially in my living room.

Miss Ruth came over to my place last night and we had some Christmas cocktails, watched some Christmas movies and then we did some trimming.

Of the tree. Get your minds out of the gutter, fellas.

Last Day

At least I hope it is the last day of Christmas shopping for me. I’m home, it’s 0400 and I’m going to hit the hay for a couple hours, then wake up and wait for them to open the doors at the place that sells the one gift I could buy online, but have questions about that the website can’t answer, so I’m not.

I hate that. I sent emails off to the ‘Customer Service’ folks for the online company (whom I cannot mention at this time since the wife is probably reading this and the gift is for her), but never got an answer back. So off to the brick and mortar I go.

I’ve bought at least 80% of my presents on line again this year, starting in shortly after Halloween, but this gift idea came up recently so I couldn’t plan ahead. The wife will probably quite literally scream when she sees it though since she’s talked about getting it for a while.

Anyway, I hope you all don’t have to brave the stores during this next week. But if you do, keep your elbows sharp, it’s getting vicious out there.

If I’m not back posting later today, I’ll be back tomorrow morning.

Very Wise Indeed

For the fifth year in a row the Occidental Tush Institute’s Drama Club is putting on a ‘Living Nativity Scene’. While OTI honors all faiths, the idea of this display was thought up by the students themselves and they sprung for all the materials to build the props for the display and it has just about reached ‘tradition’ status in the local community.

Thankfully, the weather has warmed up since last week because it is an outdoor display and it would have been quite a burden to ask the girls to stand out there in the cold.

Here is a photo of the ‘Three Wise Men’ during a break while they were getting the scene set up.

I did mention that they had very little money left over from building all the props to buy actual costumes, didn’t I?

Last Minute Christmas Ideas

For those folks who have people asking them what they want for Christmas and are running out of answers, or are looking for a gift for someone, here is a link to the United States Marine Corp Commandant’s List of Required Books posted at American Dinosaur Blog.

If these are good enough for the USMC, they’re good enough for any of us. Make sure you read the last title under the Pvt/PFC/LCpl header. That isn’t even required college reading. Not that 75% of high school grads could understand anymore these days.

Totally ignored by the left

Seriously, I haven’t seen any of the leading left wing blogs that I regularly (and not so regularly) visit talking about Louisiana Governor Blanco’s suspension of elections in New Orleans Parrish.

Yesterday, millions of Iraqi’s braved the possibility of gunmen, random IED blasts and kidnappings to WALK, not drive their cars, not ride a bus or even a damn donkey, THEY WALKED, sometimes for miles, to their nearest polling place to cast a single ballot.

Yet Governor Blank won’t give her subjects the ability to vote because a city was flooded months ago.

Screw recalling her, she needs to be removed from office and tried for denying the citizens of New Orleans Parrish the their civil rights. Because if Blanco had a big ol’ R after her name, you know that that is exactly what the Democrats would demand and it is their standard that we should hold them to.
