How Interesting

A couple weeks ago I blogged about the FBI arresting six eco-terrorists.

Well, far be it from me to resist stopping by the home base for eco-terrorist support, Portland IndyMedia, to see what they have to say about it. It is always worth at least a laugh.

And laugh I did, because they’re calling it “The Environmentalist Witch Hunt of 2005

But none of this was really blog worthy, even here at humble RNS Gables, until William Rogers (aka Avalon) suffocated himself in his cell, sending the eco-weenies into a full blown tizzy.

First comment on the thread:

“Any signs of struggle on his body–bruises, etc.? Any independent autopsy?â€?

I’m surprised he didn’t accuse BushMcCheneyburton of secreting the guy off to Egypt for proper torture.

Second comment:

“I am grateful for the person he was, even though I never met him. I am thankful that people are standing up for the earth, and the acts with which Bill was accused of should be an inspiration to us all.

Inspiration is good. Destroying private property is bad. Sorry people, but this guy is not one to be inspired by.

Fourth comment:

“I think it’s pretty obvious to say that he was murdered. The “war on terrorism” is expanding, peopleâ€?

Yeah, because he wouldn’t have maybe done it knowing that even if he wasn’t convicted on the eco-terrorism charges he’d probably still see jailtime for the child pr0n the FBI found in a search of his house.

And their madness doesn’t end there, oh no!

Maybe

Canada will make itself useful after all.

The Canadian Supreme Court ruling that redefined obscenity for that nation and legalized group-sex clubs, combined with Canada’s unusually low age of consent – 14 – will result in an influx of pedophiles to America’s neighbor to the north, contends a former consultant to the U.S. Justice Department.

Judith Reisman, a world-renowned scholar and author of four books, including “Kinsey: Crimes and Consequences”, said that since under Canadian law 14-year-olds are legally considered “consenting adults,” the court’s controversial decision “will now make Canada a sex traffic playground for pedophiles.”

A former consultant to three U.S. administrations, Reisman, who is also a WND columnist, says the court’s decision sends a clear message to pedophiles: “You don’t have to go to Asia anymore. Pedophiles can have the blond, blue-eyed kids in Canada, too.”

Let’s see: attempts to outlaw handguns for personal protection, a haven for Islamofascists who have no problem with kidnapping and now thousands of pedophiles.

So long as the creeps stay up there, it sounds like a liberal utopia to me!

RNS Quote of the Day

Capitalism wins and holds its markets by free competition, at home and abroad. A market conquered by war can be of value (temporarily) only to those advocates of a mixed economy who seek to close it to international competition, impose restrictive regulations and thus acquire special privileges by force.

It’s My Money

But she doesn’t listen. I knew she wouldn’t and that is why I didn’t vote for her.

What the hell am I talking about? Barely Governor Gregoire’s Washington State budget department has discovered that the state is running a surplus of $1.4 Billion dollars. Of course, being a Democrat, she believes that the money now belongs to the state and not to the taxpayers from whom it was ripped from and proposes to spend $500 Million of it as soon as she can get away with it on extending her powerbase and paying for some pet projects.

On what, exactly?

State contribution to pension funds: $49 million

Increase WorkFirst spending, subsidized child care for people on welfare: $46 million

Complete prisoner tracking computer system: $11 million

Additional K-12 spending to help students who fail all or part of the WASL standardized test: $39 million

Other increases in K-12 spending: $17 million

Create a new Department of Early Learning: $2 million

Higher education increases: $6 million

Puget Sound cleanup initiative: $1 million

Create state-subsidized program to encourage development of biofuels: $18 million

Other economic-development spending increases: $6 million

Expansion of state psychiatric hospitals: $8 million

Miscellaneous increased spending: $22 million

An additional $281 million would cover cost increases such as growth in public school enrollment and health care caseloads.

Oh look, $22 mil for “miscellaneous spending.

Lose a dollar in Iraq and the left goes nuts, but let a Democrat governor set aside $22 million for party favors and they’re just fine with that.

Good on them

From Colorado Springs comes the news that approximately 130 Air Force Academy Airmen will be heading to Iraq next month.

To be honest, when I saw this headline, my first instinct was to read through it to see if the reporter called any of them airmen ‘children’. But it appears that they found someone local who knew what they were writing about to do the story.

I can guarantee you that the rest of the press will not be so knowledgeable and I will try to keep an eye out for someone saying that “Bush is deploying children to Iraq before the end of January.

RNS Quote of the Day

The essence of capitalism’s foreign policy is free trade – the abolition of trade barriers, of protective tariffs, of special privileges – the opening of the world’s trade routes to free international exchange and competition among the private citizens of all countries dealing directly with one another.

What a Time

avatar22348_2.gif

The Christmas parties were their usual smashing successes, each and every one. Now that things have settled down here at home I can post up this quick report before hitting the hay.

The first gathering was at the North Dorm where I drank Nog and punch and sang carols with some of the first year students. The most endearing memory I’ll take away from it was Ms. Monica diligently waiting for Santa to drop down the chimney. Before I left I instructed one of the older students to distract her long enough so that they could get the presents distributed under the tree. I imagine Ms. Monica was disappointed that she missed Santa yet again this year.

I next went to the West Dorm to the second year students. I had trouble getting into that party because of a student who was being difficult. Ms. Christina absolutely would not believe that it was me knocking at the door and took it upon herself to barr all entrants after 11pm. You see, she has this uncontrollable fear of elves and someone thought it would be funny to tell her that Saint Nick was bringing them along this year to help. Poor girl.

My third year students in the East Dorm had a different brand of fun planned that I really shouldn’t talk about. Let’s just say that they play a little rougher than the rest and I’ll be needing a new shirt. That and I cannot find my shoes.

Oh well, Ms Luanne, my teaching assistant, still very much enjoyed receiving her new laptop after the horseplay was over.

And now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to bed. Both Ms. Luanne and I hope you had a wonderful Christmas holiday.

I’ve been holding back

In order to keep my Christmas spirits up, I’ve been holding back some of the vitriol this week. Three very big local developments, news-wise, have hit the wires and I’ve failed to say a word about them.

Part of it is because of the reason stated above, that it is getting near Christmas and writing about them would just put me too foul a mood to be “Merry for Christmas, but the other reason is that it has taken me until today to be able to think about them without wanting to beat a hippie with an ax handle.

Seeing as how even Seattleite hippies aren’t as fragile as my keyboard, I figured I’d just let then anger die down a bit before writing about them, but now it is too late. So let me gather my thoughts and I’ll hit you with one a day starting on Monday.

In the meantime, enjoy the Christmas oriented wine, women and song (minus the wine) offered here this weekend and we’ll catch you all later. I’ve got my posts for tomorrow loaded into the hopper and it looks as though The Professor will be making a Santa-style drop off of his holiday pics from his school early tomorrow morning.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy Hanukah! *

* For everyone who isn’t celebrating either of these holidays, lumps of coal for you (heading your way at 900fps, so duck!)

The Soundboard: My Favorite Christmas Tunage

I hope you all have enjoyed the music that has been provided these past couple weeks. It is an acquired taste, but once you get that taste for it, it stays with you.

And that is how I found today’s tunage. I was buying bagpipe music, as is my wont, and found this one on an album that cost me less than eight bucks brand new. I have not since found a Christmas piping tune that, if it even has this song on it, can compare to the arrangement, artistry and expert musicianship that I found here.

The Greensleeves Jig

It starts out with Bethlehem (I think) arranged with acoustic guitar and some sort of woodwind instrument. Then just before the halfway point in the track it halts and moves swiftly into Greesleeves with the guitar again, the small bagpipes and a flute.

The festive recording set-up is perfect and catches everything.

And that is part of what makes it my favoritest Christmas tune. Give it a click and the Soundboard will be back again on Thursday.
