Homestead News

The Analog Wife left me this morning, but I’m not all that sad.

You see, I drove her to the airport so that she could spend a week with her family in Helena, MT. While I will miss her while she’s gone, I’ll be somewhat glad to switch back to “bachelor mode” for a while.

I am proud to announce that as of 0600PST today, “Beef Week” will have begun!

You see, I got me a new grill a couple weeks back and I spent yesterday morning in the meat department of the local grocer. I’ve got a dozen pounds of beef in various cuts and probably around another six pounds of pork, also in various cuts.

It is currently 0715PST here and I’ve just finished grilling up a sirloin tip, after having seared both sides for just the slightest bit. I had at least one of the neighbors prairie dogging me over the fence while he gots his work-truck loaded for the day.

I smiled and waved.

I’ll probably be doing chops at around 1600 this afternoon.

It’s good to be the king.

No pics of the grill just yet. I’ve got to break the thing in and get it seasoned. You wouldn’t want to see a naked grill, now would you?

Any meaty ideas for beef & pork meal that can be grilled in under 30 minutes are welcome in the comments. Seasonings and marinates are especially welcome.

No, I don’t know how to use the stove and yes, I forgot how to use the microwave. Those are girly appliances.

Neener.

He thought he had a live one

But alas, most of the eco-socialist cult members either scream louder or run when their assumptions are questioned, and Og found a runner.

His pre-discussion post:

Mike Strickler, a geologist living somewhere near Selma, Oregon. The website is kind of nice, in a high-school-student kind of way, and it’s very informative about a lot of things.

What I enjoyed was his description of the “scientific method“. It’s pretty simply explained so just about anyone can understand. And it’s right, too; he follows the train of stages- idea, hypothesis, theory, law, dogma, stagnation. About stagnation he says this:

“This is the death of scientific thought, and should have no place in YOUR thoughts. Question all scientific laws, especially the ones that are the most firmly steeped in dogma.”

Sounds all well and good, right? Well the cult member goes on to make a mockery of the scientific method with a rant on global warming, which set the Neanderpundit off enough to ask a couple of pointed questions.

It is worth a few moments to continue reading the above linked post, and if you don’t read this follow-up, well, I can’t say too much for your sensibilities for humor.

You may have a complex that needs professional help.

Shooting at the Jewish Federation Building: Day 4

(Previous Days postings can be found by scrolling down)

Well, it is about time!

Members of the local left-wing blogosphere are finally starting to talk about the shooting on Friday, but not for the reason you might think.

Shooting suspect was baptized

Those who knew Naveed Haq said Saturday that to them he was an enigma, a puzzle that they wish they could have solved before his deadly rampage in a Seattle Jewish center.

Stunned and saddened by the news, some of Haq’s acquaintances recounted many of what they saw as the contradictions of his life.

He held a degree in electrical engineering and was the son of a successful engineer, yet he couldn’t keep a regular job. He was smart, creative and skilled as a writer. He recently won an essay contest for a U.S. Institute of Peace scholarship.

Yet Haq was frustrated at his lack of friends and female companionship. He told friends he felt alienated from his own family, in part because his career had disappointed his father and also because he had disavowed Islam last year, converting to Christianity.

Haq had begun studying the Bible, attending weekly men’s spiritual group meetings, only to stop coming a few months after his baptism.

He had told the group’s leader that he seen too much anger in Islam and that he wanted to find a new beginning in Christianity.

Yes, now that this snippet has made its way onto the scene, the Seattle left has begun to counter the talk of ‘Islamic Terrorists’ with the schoolyard whine of

Whether Haq drew inspiration from online Crusadist preachers, or whether this act of terrorism was funded, organized, or propagated by a local Christian terrorist cell, something must be done.

But again, their reading comprehension skills fail them. For as soon as they read that far into the Seattle Times article, it was as if the rest of words fell off the page.

This paragraph from the story linked to above is directly below the last paragraph I quoted

Yet in the midst of his shooting spree in Seattle Friday, he declared himself an angry Muslim.

Haq may have been a guy looking for something to balance his life, but when he decided to go out and justify his rage over the problems in his life in his own mind’s eye, he made a choice as to how and who he would represent.

“I am a Muslim and I am angry at Israel!”

Naveed Afzal Haq – July 28th, 2006

“These are Jews and I’m tired of getting pushed around and our people getting pushed around by the situation in the Middle East!”

Naveed Afzal Haq, July 28th, 2006

And that settles that.

When they couldn’t have it

They cried. And now that they’re having it handed to them, they’re still crying.

It wasn’t that long ago that the natioanl left was decrying the fact that the ‘Minimum Wage’ hadn’t been increased in a while. In fact, I’m sure that if I looked around a bit, I could find something from last week. Probably quite a few somethings.

Now the House (R)s have given the (D)s a $2.00 an hour increase in the minimum wage (to $7.15 and hour) on paper and the (R)s are ready to vote for it. But because the same bill contains an extension for Bush’s tax cuts and kills the national estate tax, the Dems are crying.

Not that they will, but if they were to come and ask my opinion, I’d say to grab it with both hand, because the likelyhood of them getting another shot at it anytime soon is close to nil (yes, I know what is happening this November. No, I don’t think they’ll do that well).

Just as I told a commenter who didn’t agree that Maryland’s anti-WalMart bill was socialism, the ‘Minimum Wage’ laws are a tariff on labor. People with no skills get paid less and that less should be whatever the person offering the job is willing to offer.

If his offer is too low, then he will have either no employees or ones who are absolutely unemployable (basically the same thing), because good people go where the money is at.

The idea of a “National Minimum Wage” is insipid in and of itself. Trying to live on $5.15 an hour is not the same in Butte, Montana as it is in Seattle, Washington. States and even Counties and Cities should be the ones enacting ‘Minimum Wage’ laws, not the federal government.

While the laws themselves are no less ignorant when enacted by smaller governments, in that way, each city and state can compete for employers just as the employers will compete for the workers and the employees can compete for the jobs.

And he says he cares about his party

I seriously doubt it what with comments like this

Kos posts about the Georgia 4th Disctrict Dem Primary Race

McKinney (D) 21
Johnson (D) 46

While this primary has generated some passion, I have no particular preference. Though given McKinney’s primary loss in 2002, it’s not like her district is generally inclined to keep her around. The person defeating her in 2002, Denise Majette, stepped down to run for Senate in 2004, opening the door for McKinney’s return.

This is a solidly Democratic district, so the winner of the primary will sit in Congress next January.

He admits that whomever wins the primary will sit in the House seat and he doesn’t care if it is Cynthia McKrazy.

He must be a Rovian plant.

Loco Local

In one of his last posts before leaving Seattle last week, Goldy at HorsesAss.Org (big-wig NW leftist blogger) goes off on a King County Councilmember for deciding with the local Republicans that the County Auditor, the person who supervises the county’s Records and Elections department, should be an elected position instead a position filled by appointment from the County Executive’ Office.

Councilman Bob Ferguson – the Joe Lieberman of King County Politics – just issued a joint press release with Councilman Raymond Shaw Reagan Dunn announcing that he would join the King County Council’s four Republicans in putting a charter amendment on the ballot that would make the County Auditor an elected office.

Just the kind of pandering, conniving politics I’ve come to expect from Ferguson, who seems intent on using his status as the Council’s swing vote to maximum personal advantage. It is also incredibly irresponsible and counterproductive if Ferguson’s goal is to actually stabilize and improve operations at Records and Elections.

Goldy goes on to rail about how a politico will fill the position instead of someone who is, in Goldy’s words “a qualified professional”.

I think I;ve had enough of “qualified Professionals” in that position after the fiasco that was the election of 2004. Lost ballots, found ballots and many other questionable ballots got the Democratic Party what they wanted, a win in what should have been home-safe territory.

Thank you, but no thank you, Goldy. I’d rather a person who holds the Auditors position be answerable to the people and not to the overly trusting Executive office holder who appointed them.

It works for the State of Washington Auditor and it will work for the County. Probably unlike any County Auditor office holder will in the past.

Shooting at the Jewish Federation Building: Day 3

Some have asked about the security at the building and just how Naveed Afzal Haq got in to try his hand at small scale genocide.

Here is how

The man suspected in a fatal shooting rampage hid behind a potted plant in a Jewish charity’s foyer and forced his way through a security door by holding a gun to a 13-year-old girl’s head, the police chief said Saturday.

Once inside, police say, Naveed Afzal Haq opened fire with two semiautomatic pistols. One woman, Pam Waechter, 58, of Seattle was killed at the scene. Five more women were wounded.

Haq, 30, was ordered held on $50 million bail Saturday pending formal charges of murder and attempted murder.

(snip)

“He pointedly blamed the Jewish people for all of these problems,” Seattle Police Chief Gil Kerlikowske said at a news conference Saturday.

According to a statement of probable cause, Haq told a 911 dispatcher: “These are Jews and I’m tired of getting pushed around and our people getting pushed around by the situation in the Middle East.”

It is reported in unlinkable local news stories that Haq legally purchased two pistols in the Tri-Cities area of SE Washington, one in .40cal and the other in 45ACP, but it doesn’t say when. And with the extra mags he brought with him, the prosecutors have evidence of premeditation.

Someone in the comments asked if Haq will be charged with a hate crime. I seriously doubt it, and not just because it hasn’t been mentioned in the charging papers. Though Rita Zawaideh, from the Arab American Community Coalition has said that she believes “This was just definitely a real hate crime”.

The AACC and the American Arab Anti-Discrimiantion Committee have released a statement.

The Seattle Left-Wing blogging contingent have generally been either silent: Goldy at Seattle uber-leftist blog, HorsesAss is out of town and his fill-in has only linked to a couple pieces in a link-burst, but given no opinion or commentary; and the number 2 in the NW, the whale of a left-wing hate-monger, David Neiwert, hasn’t said a thing since Thursday. Maybe he’ll get around to it today?

Or they have fallen into the standard “Blame America/Bush” mode: like this guy has. Twice.

Right-wing blog bigshots, Sound Politics, have all had something to say, but this post by Matt Rosenberg is the best one yet.

Me, I’m just hoping that everyone recovers fully and is able to live beyond this, except for Haq, of course. He needs to die by having his body buried with just his head sticking out of the ground and his victims allowed to take a swing at his hate-filled noggin with the object of their choosing.

I am also hoping that this will not turn into another anti-gun tale of woe, like how the media and state anti-gun groups forgot about the drugs when the zombie-raver shot his fellow partiers.

And before you heathens get your fanny-fix from the Professor,

You should watch this video and see what only two of the four engines on a 747 do to a car driving behind it.

Shooting at the Seattle Jewish Federation Building: Day 2

Since yesterday, we’ve learned that the man in question Naveed Afzal Haq, 30, of Everett, WA.

We’ve also learned that he shot six women at the JFB, killing one of them on the scene and putting three of them in critical condition at King County’s downtown hospital, Harborview. One of the women was 17-20 weeks pregnant (depending on who you read) and, as disgusting as this sounds, she was luckily only hit in the arm.

Michelle Malkin was able to find a high school yearbook photo of Haq and has it posted here.

She also links to a Seattle Times article in which an unidentified member of the Seattle PD Joint Terrorism Task Force claim that Haq has a history of mental problems.

Like her, I don’t believe it, and I don’t care. I will care even less when this bastard comes to trial. I would have rather that he saved his last round for himself or let the SPD help him make the connecting flight to Allah.

But alas, no.

So he is not only a hate filled, anti-semitic piece of shit, he is also a coward.

I’ll bring any new developments tomorrow.

Shabat Shalom to you all.
