What did you do, California?

Even the greenies aren’t dumb enough to locate their new facility in your state.

Its cars are assembled in California, but electric auto-maker Tesla Motors couldn’t be convinced to open its massive battery factory here.

A spokesperson from Gov. Jerry Brown’s administration told the LA Times that the state presented several potential sites for the factory, all of which were rejected. Land prices and politics may be behind Tesla’s decision, according to the LA Times.

Geez, ya think, LAT?

Apparently, it is cheaper to manufacture in Texas and ship to California than to just build them in California.

More punishment for the “Middle Class”

They’d have us paying $10 per gallon if they could find a way. And if they didn’t think there would be fuel riots because of it.

The Environmental Protection Agency on Monday finalized new rules that would impose a dramatic reduction in sulfur in gasoline and tailpipe emissions, as the oil and gas industry warned the regulations would lead to more pain at the pump.

In the works for years, the rules require refineries to cut sulfur levels in gasoline by about two-thirds by 2017. Less sulfur in gasoline makes it easier for a car’s pollution controls to effectively filter out emissions, resulting in cleaner air, the EPA says. For car manufacturers, stricter limits on tailpipe emissions will require engineering changes so that cars weed out more pollution.

“The benefits far outweigh the costs,” EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy said. “These standards will reduce pollution, they’ll clean the air we breathe and protect the health of American families.”

…..

The EPA claimed the cost to consumers would be less than a penny per gallon of gas; the EPA projects the rules will raise the average cost of buying a vehicle by $72 in 2025.

But the American Petroleum Institute pointed to studies it has commissioned estimating that the limits would actually add 6 cents to 9 cents a gallon to refiners’ manufacturing costs while requiring $10 billion in capital costs. American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers, a trade group, called it “the most recent example of the agency’s propensity for illogical and counterproductive rulemaking.”

It is as if their boss has given them carte blanche to do whatever they want or something.

Taking them to SCOTUS didn’t seem to even phase them.

Standing their ground for bad science

Tonight the Democratic Party in the Senate will pull an all-nighter to talk about “Climate Change” with themselves.

Senate Democrats are about to burn the midnight oil to make their case on climate change.

The previously rumored all-night session on the effects of climate change will take place Monday, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse confirmed.

“It’s locked in,” the Rhode Island Democrat told CQ Roll Call. “An all-nighter is an all-nighter. We’re going to go all the way through to eight or nine in the morning or whenever they need to clean it up for the next day.”

How much extra coal-powered electricity will this farce eat up? Do they plan on calculating their carbon footprint of this exercise? Can they do it with the lights out so I don’t have to watch replays of the C-SPAN coverage?

And in case you haven’t seen it yet, a Global Warming Death Cult member tries to reason as to why the computer models are all wrong.

For the past 15+ years, there has been no increase in global average surface temperature, which has been referred to as a ‘hiatus’ in global warming. By contrast, estimates of expected warming in the first several decades of 21st century made by the IPCC AR4 were 0.2C/decade. This talk summarizes the recent CMIP5 climate model simulation results and comparisons with observational data. The most recent climate model simulations used in the AR5 indicate that the warming stagnation since 1998 is no longer consistent with model projections even at the 2% confidence level.

To her credit, she does put the idea that the models were fiddled with on the list. Which, as you can see in the comments, earns her a symbolic excommunication of sorts.

I could have made it really simple: The models don’t run right when run in reverse. They were messed with and/or designed to put out a wanted result.

Proof!

That the left worships government and bureaucracy as deities:

Last week, FLOTUS visited Obamacare counselors in Florida and told them that they were “doing God’s work.”

Now, God may kill grandmothers and puppies, but only because he has to.

There is no way he would demand young adults to buy overly expensive and overly bundled health insurance. His punishments for unrepentant young adults run more along the lines of floods and plagues. This is definitely the work of government.

Ah, California Pines.

No, not that California Pines! Although I’m sure some preppers swallowed that bait.

But that’s Not Fair!

Natural human variations can lead to some fascinating results: for example, one single family in Africa vs. all of China.

Larger lessons left as an exercise for the reader. Warning: may lead to some unexpected logical paths.

The same answer for everything

When a statist sees a problem, they’re stock answer is always the same: More Government.

Example #1:

The online ride share websites are taking a small bite out of Seattle’s taxi campanies business. The taxi companies run to City Hall to complain and try to get some of that favorable treatment larger businesses get from government. The city government obliges and limits the number of cars the ride share web companies can have on the road.

But not before our socialist city councilwoman, Ksharma Sawant, pipes up to the local media that, wait for it, The City should take over taxi services. Yes, all the drivers would be city employees and all the cars would be owned by the city.

Not even Bloomberg was that stupid.

Example #2:

Quote from Ace at the AoSHQ on the topic of Thomas Friedman

How do we revitalize the American economy? Raise the gas tax, impose a carbon-tax scheme.

How do we renew America’s sense of patriotism? Raise the gas tax, impose a carbon-tax scheme.

How do we lower gas and energy prices? Raise the gas tax, impose a carbon-tax scheme.

So no one should be surprised that the key to driving Putin out of the Ukraine with his tail tucked between his legs is to raise the gas tax, impose a carbon-tax scheme.

Says the man who says he wants to help the middle class.

Repetition is usually a decently effective sales technique. But it doesn’t work when you’re trying to sell steak knives to a person dying of thirst.
