Dare to Capitulate

Lee Camp, a Lipscombe University theologian, has a plan for world peace with militant Islam:

Give up your beliefs if they offend Muslims.

“We need to forsake the Christendom model,” Camp said. “The most basic Christian commitment … is that we say we believe in the Lordship of Jesus. But, if we claim that, how can a Muslim or Jew trust us, if we say Jesus is the Lord of all Lords?”

Once again, I am not what anyone in their right mind would consider a Christian. I have no animosity towards anyone of any religion or any lack of a religion. I could really care less what you believe, so long as you don’t want to involve me in any part of it (this includes knocking on my door at 0800 on a Saturday and/or cutting my head off).

But I can find absolutely no respect for anyone who espouses that they believe in something and then gives up part of their belief structure to satisfy someone else’s fanaticism.

In my little universe, part of the meaning of life is to learn from others and be tolerant of their beliefs, so long as said beliefs don’t bring harm your way. If the beliefs of others bring them to try and cause you harm, you do what you have to to stop them from being able to believe in anything other than that death is a quiet place. Otherwise you’ll be the one finding out just how quiet being dead is.

What this jackass is proposing is analogous to willingly giving up semi-automatic rifles with pistol grips and muzzle brakes because some people find them scary, and then calling yourself a proponent of firearms ownership rights.

I’m looking at you, NRA.

Neither stance is realistic, sane or moral.

The Wide, Wide World of Judical Decisions

My only guess is that the citizens of this country had “World Opinion” dropped on them from the bench when I read these two latest decisions.

First up: The American taxpayer HAS TO give Katrina ‘victims’ more money

On Wednesday, a federal judge said the Bush administration must immediately resume housing payments for thousands of people displaced by the hurricane, heaping more criticism on the government for its handling of the 2005 disaster.

U.S. District Judge Richard J. Leon’s ruling sharply criticized the Federal Emergency Management Agency for cutting housing funding and subjecting storm victims to a convoluted application process he called “Kafkaesque.”

Approximately 150 years ago, the federal response to a disaster that mirrors what happened to the gulf states was to send the Army down there to SELL tents to those affected.

In 2006, we have to GIVE them houses.

Next up: Locking up the funds of terrorist supporting groups is a no-no

A federal judge struck down President Bush’s authority to designate groups as terrorists, saying his post-Sept. 11 executive order was unconstitutionally vague, according to a ruling released Tuesday.

The Humanitarian Law Project had challenged Bush’s order, which blocked all the assets of groups or individuals he named as “specially designated global terrorists” after the 2001 terrorist attacks.

“This law gave the president unfettered authority to create blacklists,” said David Cole, a lawyer for the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Constitutional Rights that represented the group. “It was reminiscent of the McCarthy era.”

The Center for Constitutional Rights would know all about the “McCarthy Era”. The spawn of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg is employed there.

We’re not arresting anyone until a full investigation takes place. All that is happening is that certain groups who are publically known to fund groups that blow up women and children are having their assests tied up.

I thought the left wanted us to go after the terrorists using the judicial system and not “The Army System”? I guess they really don’t.

So deep in denial

They’re digging their way to China.

Which is appropriate, because they want to suppress the facts in the same manner that that country’s government does.

I am speaking, of course, about the Iraqi “6 Burned Alive in Iraq” story, which was given legs when it was told by the folks in-country who work with the police in that district that no such officer as was sourced by the AP existed. (for those coming late tot he party, just head over to Malkin’s place to catch up).

Now CENTCOM is officially stating that they know of no such person as was sourced by the AP.

The left wing blogosphere, on the other hand, would rather just take the AP’s swearing on a stack of NYT Sunday Editions at face value.

John Avarosis declares “Iraq is Dead”

David Neiwert says that anyone who denies the burning deaths story is “Flagrantly Delusional”

Oliver Willis (Occupation: Toole) calls folks on the right who believe and write about CENTCOM having never heard of this police Captain “The most recent infraction against sanity”

If you can only stand to follow one of those links, make it the one to Willis’ place. It takes not a half a dozen comments before people start in with the racial bigotry. Tolerant folks over there, I tell ya.

But the fun really starts when Oliver’s usual peanut gallery start charging that the bigots are actually visiting folks on the right making Ollie’s regulars look bad.

I swear, its like a micro-sized soap opera over there.

I know he’s trying to be funny

But Garrison Keillor’s latest rant is even less funny than Michael Richards’ latest bit of notoriety.

Democrats intend to bring reform to Washington, and why not begin with the Senate? It has been sorely in need of reform for a century or so. Two senators per state is a good idea in theory, assuming they are half smart, but then you look at George Allen, a lumbering frat boy from the state of Madison and Jefferson, and you think, whoa, something is wrong with this picture. We need some horizontal control.

Let’s start at the beginning and redraw the map. First of all, is there a reason for Wyoming to exist as a state? I have often wondered about this. Why give two Senate seats to a half-million dime-store cowboys while California gets two seats for 34 million people? (Wyoming has roughly the population of Sacramento.) It’s OK if Wyoming sends somebody with brains and an independent streak, but when they send a couple of Republican hacks, it makes no sense.

Ha, fucking ha.

In this same vein, I was watching the replay of the Colbert Report yesterday and listened to Harry Shearer (of Spinal Tap and Simpson’s fame) state that the reason people in California and New York look down on the folks living in “Fly-Over Country” is because the people still in middle America weren’t smart or talented enough to get themselves out.

Such disrespect for the people who actually work to make the nation function can only be rewarded by cheering them on until they piss enough people off and lose national power again.

Better Late Than Never

The election we are all unhappy about took place on November 7th.

Yesterday was November 29th.

Why do I state this?

Because yesterday was the day that the King County Elections Department finally certified the results.

22 days to count 635,753 ballots. Now that is 21st Century democracy in action!

King County, home of the state’s activist community, is proud that they had a 65% voter turn out.

Iraq had 90%, but if you talk to folks on the left, the Iraqis aren’t interested in democracy.

Not that you’ll be going there any time soon

But I thought I might link to Daniel Pipes’ post about the 751 places in France that the police in that country have absolutely no control over and will not enter themselves.

Titled the “Sensitive Urban Zones”, they are as bad or worse than the worst parts of South Central LA during the height of the crack epidemic or NYC during the mid-to-late 70’s.

One of Pipes’ commenters said “A more precise name for these zones would be Dar al-Islam, the place where Muslims rule.”

In Seattle, it isn’t the books that stink

Its the guy sleeping at the foot of the book case.

A couple months back, I posted about the boondoggle that is Seattle’s new downtown public library. The building is of such a “New Age” design, that people couldn’t find what they were looking for, and some folks were even getting lost among the stacks. The city had to hire a “Wayfinder” to design signs in order for folks to navigate the damn place.

But with Jack Frost now making his way around town, a goodly number of the people in the library aren’t there to look for reference materials.

As the sky darkened and the rain blew sideways, Tiberious Shapiro tucked into the Central Library, his favorite place to pass the hours before the homeless shelters opened. He picked up a paperback and escaped into a Harlequin romance.

Around him were dozens of hard-edged, solitary men. There was bushy-bearded Kevin, who slept in a park; the mohawked regular who panhandled for beer money; a young man who slapped his head with a magazine; an old man who strode in with a garbage bag rustling around his shirt.

For them, Seattle’s renowned downtown library is more than architectural dazzle and literary splendor. It is a harbor from autumn and winter and an oasis from an increasingly wealthy and unwelcoming downtown.

“I’ll sit here and let the day’s stress come down,” said Shapiro, who is 38, thin, toothless and scraped up.

Because wondering where your next hit or beer is coming from is so much more stressful than having a steady job where you have to perform to earn money.

Slipping on my mind in a Winter Wonderland

Well folks, I’m off to try and go to work again. It was pretty good on Tuesday day, with most of the snow and ice melting in the one degree above freezeing sunlight, the WADOT getting the major thoroughfares sanded, making them passable, and there was no new accumulation of snow.

Today wasn’t as kind. While it never got above freezing, at in my neighborhood, and there was again no new accumulation, I doubt it was much warmer in Seattle proper. Though unlike yesterday, my employer did get some drivers into work and some business was done. I will have a grand total of two drivers rolling tonight, so hopefully we’ll get a little of the backlog knocked down.

Unfortunately, the forcast calls for more snow tonight. And even better than that, it is supposed to warm slightly until the snow becomes….wait for it….Freezing Rain!

So I’ll be taking my camera with me this time and if I can get some decent pics, I shall post them tomorrow.

Wish me luck!

Dare to be Stupid: 11/29/06

With the Dems having completed their goal of taking over the Legislative Branch of the federal government, though maybe not to their desired majority, that the leftists would have settled down just a bit with their hate America rhetoric.

No. Not really.

One of the top AIDS activists in China has “disappeared” after suddenly cancelling a composium on the disease, which we all know means he now sleeps with the fishes and has gained 60gr from the slug in the back of his skull, courtesy of his government.

And to John Avarosis of the ineptly named AmericaBlog, this is exactly how life is in George Bush’s Amerikkka

But with all due respect to AIDS activist (sic) China has now disappeared, this doesn’t appear any different than what the US government does to those it suspects of being a threat to our way of life, so what’s the difference? I can’t stand the Chinese government – they’re one of the most vile regimes on the planet – but how do we criticize their actions when the Bush administration does the same thing?

Yes, read that again.

He equates the arrest and detention of known mass-murderers by the US government to the extermination of all political opposition and criticism by the Chinese government.

What a fucking moron.

I still think that if the left could analogize properly, they’d be dangerous.
