Dare to be Stupid: 12/12/06

Those who do not learn from history, are really fookin stoopid because it is the easiest subject to learn.

Take “trifecta”, an inmate at the Kos Petting Zoo and Animal Farm, who has not a clue as to what actually happened in regards to captured enemy soldiers in WWII.

If we tortured our way through WWII

Not only is he still stuck on Abu Ghrabass, he says we were perfect little angels to every single member of the opposing armies.

Hmm, I thought everyone knew that we shot captured Waffen SS soldiers upon capture. Usually with little or no interogation.

Maybe he wants us to return to that practice?

Probably not. He’s just being daring.

Rumors of a Big Change…

Polipundit has this bit o’ news:

Under the radar, momentous political events are taking place in Iraq that may have profound ramifications for the future of the country. It seems that a powerful Shiite-Sunni coalition with ties to Kurdish leaders that does not include radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr is preparing to oust current prime minister Nouri al-Maliki and install a new government. … The emerging leaders appear to have the support of Washington, notably the kingpin, Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim, who visited the White House last week.

Wouldn’t be surprising that the MSM completely missed out on the importance of al-Hakim’s visit. The NewsHour had a nice interview with al Hakim, of course, not that anybody watched it.

Betcha a nickel that the general thrust of MSM coverage is of the Chicken Little variety if/when this occurs…. What, no takers?

I Sight: Part 2

Sunday was rangeday, the continuation of last weekend’s adventure in learning that my iron sights on my PTR-91 were 8MOA off. I scoped the rifle the next day and was determined to get out this weekend and sight it in, since I believe in the theory that if you don’t know where your MBR hits, it is a very loud club.

As Saturday was “shopping day with the wife”, rangeday was Sunday. At the ass-crack of dawn I was gathering my rifles and equipment in preparation of attending The Church of the Holy High-Speed Projectile. Joe Huffman has a partial transcript of our gospel listed here.

Along with the PTR-91, I also brought along my Ruger 77 MK I, chambered in 22-250.

P4010001.JPG

I figured that since I haven’t shot much over the summer, and scoped rifles not since April or May, I should shoot something on the more inexpensive end of the scale to get my eyes back in tune (that PMP stuff isn’t too bad and costs less than $8 a box).

After arriving at the place of worship, I set my bench stuff up and proceeded to recheck the zero of the Ruger with some 100yd 3-shot groups

PC110001.JPG

After I settled down a bit, the Ruger got back into it’s habit of outshooting me.

One thing I couldn’t get past yesterday was the rangemaster calling target changes at the worst time for me. I quit while I was ahead with the Ruger as I could feel the sandman rolling down the range’s driveway and wanting to talk to me.

I then proceeded to sight in the PTR at 100yds.

PC110005.JPG

As you can see, I got myself a little confused between my target scopes and this temporary one on the PTR. I was used to 1/8 MOA clicks and the turrents on this 6x not only run backward but have 1/4 clicks. Waaaay too high and too far to the right after the first adjustment. Round nine was supposed to be my next to last shot, as I was trying to get my 200yd POI ready with that target.

Alas, it was not to be so, as the rangemaster again called for target change.

PC110003.JPG

200 went rather well, seeing as how my eyes were beginning to not want to focus through the glass (no problems outside the scope), though I took so damn long that I couldn’t get my 5th shot off before target change time again.

I said screw it. 90 minutes and I was out of there. The place was starting to fill up with the yakkers (the guys who talk more than they shoot) anyway.

One good thing besides getting the PTR sighted in was that I found a rifle that likes the mid-1990 147gr Aussie  I bought a while back. Barak says ptoowie to it, liking pre-88 Australian only. I’m guessing that the 1990 stuff Australian Defense Industries released in the blisterpacks was delingked MG ammo and not the good stuff that came canned and bandoliered

In other gunblogging posts from this weekend, Ben the Reasonable Nut has a tale up as to why you absolutely must wear eye protection whenever you are shooting.

An excellent gun. Supposedly good ammo. Accidents can and will happen.

For you perscription bespectacled shooters out there, like me, I use these and I highly recommend them.

Despite their best attempts to not do so

The Seattle School District is actually teaching their students something.

About the Free Market.

Seattle high schools soon will be reimbursed for the money they’ve lost as a result of the school district’s two-year-old ban on junk food in vending machines.

The district will repay the Associated Student Body clubs at 10 high schools a total of nearly $103,000, restoring the budgets they use to pay for sports transportation and uniforms, school dances, leadership training and other discretionary expenses.

The food fascists came in a couple years back and wiped out all junk food from the schools. What they didn’t seem to realize is that the majority of the ASB budget came from the vending machines and snack counter sales. This put a pinch on everything.

“People come to us for money all the time,” said Trang Nguyen, junior-class secretary at Franklin High School. “We’re like a bank for the school.”

The School Board in Fall 2004 approved a nutrition policy that bans unhealthful food from student stores and vending machines and eliminated an exclusive contract with Coca-Cola. At the time, the board predicted that schools would be able to make up the revenue with fundraising, but for the most part, that hasn’t happened.

South End schools were hit especially hard because most don’t have booster clubs to donate money for sports, and school officials say so many of their students are in poverty that they don’t want to raise other fees or charge kids to play sports to make up the revenue, as some North Seattle schools have done.

Franklin High School lost the most. In 2004-05, before the policy was in place, the Franklin ASB collected nearly $18,000 from vending machines. Last year, the ASB collected less than $3,000.

West Seattle, Chief Sealth, Rainier Beach and Ballard High schools each lost about 80 percent of their ASB budgets.

As was said in the second paragraph of that blockquote, the anti-junk food activists were sure that the ASB’s would find other ways to make for the money, just like how the eco-socialists predict that if we stop buying oil from the ME and never drill in our own reserves, people will find and industry will immediately produce and manufacture some kind of vehicle that runs on pixie dust to replace petrol powered cars.

And make no mistake, these anti-junk food types ARE activists

Outgoing School Board President Brita Butler-Wall, who pushed for the nutrition policy on the board and as an activist before she was elected, said student groups need to figure out other ways to raise money.

She told the parents her agenda if elected. They elected her and now they have to come up with money for extra-curriculars. Money that some of them do not have.

I mean, it isn’t like the kids aren’t going to find someplace that sells what they want and spend their money on it anyway.

Franklin students said it’s not fair that they’ve had the problem “dumped” on them. And they don’t anticipate vending revenues will rebound.

The granola-bar and baked-chips stocked machines are often turned off because of rules barring “competitive” food sales while lunch is being served, and students often walk down the street to McDonald’s or buy snacks at nearby convenience stores.

Another socialist construct gone awry.

It is not the job of the schools to “promote” healthy eating. It is their job to educate students on what is healthy to eat and then hope they learn from it.

China Secretly Executes Anti-Dam Protester

Chinese officials have secretly executed a demonstrator who took part in a massive protest in 2004 against a hydro-electric dam in the south-western province of Sichuan, lawyers and family members said yesterday.

In a grim postscript to the summer of rural unrest that overtook China two years ago, Chen Tao was executed for “deliberately killing” a riot policeman during the demonstration, when 100,000 farmers staged a sit-in against the building of the 186-metre-high Pubugou dam on the Dadu river in Hanyuan county. The dam was set to flood thousands of people out of their homes and there were complaints that compensation was inadequate.

He noted that the family and the press only found out about Chen Tao’s execution AFTER it happened.

Jabberin’ John Avarosis then updates Chris’ post with this

Then again, a lot of this case doesn’t sound any different that what we do, now.

Yes, because Cindy Sheehan has been jailed and silenced for so long after camping out by the Bush residence in Texas a couple years back. And no one ever heard from Joe Wilson after his report from Niger. Poor Jimmeh Cahtah has been in a coma since his beating, supposedly by muggers, in 2003. And although it was strange for Michael Moore to die of a heart attack so young, science has shown that people with weight issues do die young.

Oh, wait….

Why does this guy have to self-nominate himself for this category so often?

Um…

I don’t understand this bit that Craig at MT Politics found on a forum talking about waiting for the big game at the University of Montana.

This is more exciting than opening day of hunting season, and that’s like Christmas – with guns!

My Christmas always has guns. While that is exciting and all, I wouldn’t equate it to opening day of hunting season.

That’s like my birthday with guns!

Speaking of opening day of hunting season, I have, in the past couple weeks, actually contemplated buying a 5-rnd mag for The Hun Bastard so I could take him hunting.

My dad started hunting with his M1A and a 5-rnd mag in 1985 after taking fire from some numbnuts road-hunter while walking a just inside a treeline on opening day. He returned fire with his .300WinMag, but he wanted to make sure that if it happened again, he would be able to lay down superior firepower via the 2-20 round mags of Black Tip (AP) 7.62×51 he kept in a belt pouch.

Go ahead. Hide behind your vehicle.

Your Coffee, Citizen

Yet another reason to ditch the Public Broadcasting System

In the midst of a really big news week for all Americans, including the release and reaction to the Baker-Hamilton Iraq Study Group Report, came one of the weirder bits of news involving PBS.

On Dec. 6, it was announced that the Public Broadcasting Service and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters had formed a partnership to launch a new organic coffee blend known as PBS Blend. The press release says the new blend will be offered in “whole bean, 10-oz. packages and single-serve K-Cups for use in Keurig Single-Cup brewers,” also owned by Green Mountain.

(snip)

“Sweetly balanced and smooth,” it states, “with full flavor and a rich finish, PBS Blend is grown in the lush, tropical rain forests surrounding the El Triunfo Biosphere in Mexico. PBS Blend carries the Fair Trade Certified™ label, which guarantees farmers a fair price for their coffee harvest and enables them to reinvest in their communities. In addition, PBS Blend is environmentally-friendly. A certified organic coffee, its beans were grown using agricultural practices that preserve biodiversity and vital habitats for migratory birds and other wildlife.

“‘We are pleased to be working with Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, which shares PBS’s commitment to social responsibility and community education,’ said Andrea Downing, Vice President, Home Entertainment and Partnerships. ‘This partnership allows PBS a new way to engage and inform consumers around a quality product, provides them with another way to support public television through their every day lifestyle choices and purchases, and ensures that our member stations can continue to deliver a valuable public service in their communities.’

“Robert Stiller, President of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, said, ‘This collaboration with PBS reinforces our belief that when like-minded organizations join together, they can be an agent for positive change. We admire PBS and its member stations’ focus on public service and education, as well as its long-standing reputation as a trusted community resource. This delicious coffee provides us with new avenues for supporting our global community and advancing public education about Fair Trade.’”

Leaving out all the eco-socialist rhetoric about “bio-spheres” out of it, check out the end of that last sentence.

“public education about Fair Trade”

Not “Free Trade”, but “Fair Trade”.

Someone needs to ask the Fed if this is now official policy; To be advancing a socialist dogma where the person(s) on one side of the bargain deserve to be paying more for a product or getting less for their product for the sole reason that they are better off than the folks on the other side?

And just what is a government agency doing locking themselves into a commercial venture with a private company using our money anyway? As the PBS Ombudsman mentions later in the above mentioned press release, PBS DOES sell items such as DVD and VHS copies of it’s shows, but we’ve already paid for those shows and the money made back gets kept by the PBS. This deal, on the other hand, sounds as though we’ve lended a private corporation venture capital to import over-priced coffee on our dime. Nowhere does it state what the profit split is. Nowhere does it state who has to pay the balance if no one buys their “socially conscious” coffee.

But I’ll bet you that the left won’t be bitching about getting the GAO into this debacle.

That should do it

I do hope this helps those having trouble with understanding the fundamentals of the Hydrothermal Therapy theory.

Fakin’ the Bacon

Charlize Theron, the actress who screwed up Aeon Flux so badly that I couldn’t even stand the trailers, is in town this weekend, along with uber-dipshit Woody Harrelson, to cut some film for their latest turd on celluloid, “The Battle in Seattle”, about the 1999 WTO riots.

You can read the puffpiece about it here, including this bullshit line

According to Insight’s Web site, the script tells the story from the perspective of protestors, police and politicians and is careful not to take sides.

I mean, they have Ray Liotta playing “The Mayor” but they don’t name the character in the movie because they either forgot or didn’t bother interviewing Fuck-Up-In-Chief at the time, Paul Schell.

I would have at least liked them to have interviewed former King County Sheriff and current US Representative for the 8th District of Washington State, Dave Reichert. He was down there sans body armor and shield, kicking ass and taking names in his Tony Lama cowboy boots. If I remember correctly, he personally chased down, detained and arrested around two dozen looters that afternoon.

I seriously doubt the current “Sheriff” would have even bother to leave her executive office.

On a truly hilarious note, most of this movie has been shot in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Not only that, but the local Teamsters Union (including a couple of the guys who drive for my company) will be protesting the movie about protesters. Why?

Because the production company brought non-union truck drivers down with them from Canada and won’t be using local union labor. Costs too much.

Irony is a dish best served a day late and reheated in the microwave.

W-w-w-wha?

Democratic Leadership knew about Foley e-mails in at least 2005
B-b-but, it’s the Rethuglicans fault that nothing was done and that the matter wasn’t brought up in the Ethics Committee.

Ten posts about the Hastings-Berman report on the matter at uber-leftist site AmericaBlog, nine of them from Jabberin’ John Amato, and not one single mention of this fact.

Because they want the truth to get out, man!
