Things We Both Know To Be True

Only in the UK

A samurai sword wielding vigilante has come to the rescue of two Police officers when they were attacked by an armed gang in South Shields, England.

A group of men had forced their way into a house and were ransacking the place when passing plain-clothes officers were alerted by a woman inside screaming.

The criminals outnumbered them and were armed with a hammer, knives and chains and attacked the Police officers.

As one of them stabbed at a Policeman with his knife, a mysterious do-gooder appeared from nowhere and attacked him with a samurai sword.

One of the burglars began running away but was stopped by the stranger who struck him on the arm with the sword.

Two of the criminals were arrested, but in true hero style the samurai disappeared before police could speak to him.

A third man was arrested later and two more are still being hunted.

Police are especially keen to trace the man with the sword who came to the aid of their officers, and have asked for anyone with information to call them.

I’m sure you realize why I highlighted the last sentence.

You know and I know that if the constabulary ever finds out who this guy is, that they’ll arrest him for possession of an illegal weapon, assault and leaving the scene of a crime.

Tis a pity.

The Fix Is In

In Washington State.

Via The Heartless Libertarian’s link to the Washington State Rifle and Pistol Association we find that the Democrats in the Washington State Senate have done an end-run around proceedure to ensure passage of anti-Gun Show bill onto the Senate floor.

To quote HL:

There are now a total of 5 gun bills, two of which are House and Senate versions of the “So-Called Gunshow Loophole” bill. And apparently, despite indications from some in the Democrat leadership, they might actually be serious about this one especially in the Senate, where, instead of sending the bill to the Judiciary Committee, where the Dems only have a 4-3 majority, with some of those being gun-friendly types from rural districts, it was given to the Labor, Commerce, Research & Development Committee, where the Dems rule 5-2 and are all GFWs. Senators need to be told to stop playing games with our rights. Nice way to remind them: they love to talk about “special interests” (Cease Fire WA: 3,500 or so members) vs “public interests” (1,000,000 gun owners.)

The Washington Dems are going to try anything they can to get this passed, even if the majority of their constituents do not approve of either the bill or their methods of passing it.

I asked very nicely for all firearms owners in Washington State to call their elected representatives. This rests on our shoulders if we do not act.

Here, I’ll make it easy.

This is the Agenda Page of the LCR&D Committee.

Keep that link handy. There is currently no schedule for their hearing/debating SB-5197 though, if their past actions are any indication, they will schedule the debate with as short a window as possible for notification. They know this bill is unpopular or there would have been no motive to route it through the improper committee. They will want as few people to attend the hearing as possible to try and show that there is no opposition.

I will be checking daily, but my work/sleep schedule is radically different from 95% of the population, so if you can check it as well and then let me know, I can get a post up more quickly that way.

To say that we must to not sit on our asses on this one would be a gross understatement.

——————–

On this subject, I went to a gun show this weekend in Washington State.

Unfortunately for you, because of the threat of bill such as SB-5197, I cannot divulge what, if anything, I bought.

Which is really too bad because everyone has been telling me I needed one of these.

RNS Quote of the Day: 01/16/07

For those who haven’t heard, Hollis Wayne Fincher was found guilty of “illegal” possession of a fully automatic firearm and a “sawed-off” shotgun. You can be read about the case here, here, here and here,

As you can tell by my above inclusion of “scare quotes”, I do not believe that any of these actions should be illegal, and that the popularizing of media/anti-rights scare words is complete, down to the prosecutors office. Just as a sub-machine gun has it’s place in society, so does a short-barrelled shotgun, and had I been on the jury, Fincher would have gone home that day.

A citizen’s possession of these items is no more frightening to me than someone owning a turbine powered motorcycle or a copy of Mao’s Little Red Book.

It is all about what you do with then, not that you have them in the first place.

Unfortunately for Fincher, there are not enough people such as myself out there and even if the judge had allowed him to make certain Constitutional arguments in his defense, the general public available for the jury pool is, in my opinion, too fucking stoopid to understand the words that would be said.

Some folks say that he was itching for this fight and maybe he was. Either way, he lost.

You and I also lost. With this decision, and the subsequent losses he will face in his appeals process, will most likely set back the drive to de-regulate the ownership of fully automatic and short-barrelled firearms a number of years unforseeable to us at this time.

I have fired fully automatic firearms: Pistols, sub-guns, real “assault rifles” and crew served weapons.

I have fired fully automatic firearms in competition (and those of you living in full-auto states who do not take up the opportunity to do this are wasting an opportunity to not only make friends, but also to get some excellent training and have more fun than your wallet can stand).

While I will always love my short-barrelled shotguns/rifles (not that I own any today), my love affair with fully automatic weapons has subsided and I have little fascination to ever own one, even if I “legally” could. Maybe just one real, open-bolt MAC-10 in .45ACP (with the wood buttstock and carbine length barrel option) for old time’s sake, or a one of the Browning M1919’s that the Navy converted to 7.62×51 for river use in Vietnam to cover the “Belt-Fed Gap” I have in my collection.

Basically what I’m trying to say is that, in my opinion, full-auto isn’t “All That and a Bag of Chips”. And it is definitely not worth losing your right to ever possess a firearm for the rest of your life.

The next three days will see QotD that tell you why my opinion of FA firearms has declined, and after reading them, I’m sure you’ll understand.

Since we finished last week off with the guy, we’ll start this series with Boston T. Party

Firepower is hits per minute, not rounds per minute.

What is it?

Is it Moral Equivalence taken to the extreme or are they just this ignorant of history?

From MSNBC:

A U.S. Border Patrol agent shot and killed a 22-year-old Mexican who was crossing illegally into the United States, U.S. police said Saturday.

The agent shot Francisco Dominguez, who had crossed into Arizona with family members and other migrants, while trying to take him into custody, Cochise County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Carol Capas said.

Isn’t this what used to happen along the Berlin Wall?

I’m just speechless.

The Best Reason

To oppose socialized medicine isn’t because your doctor’s office will become the DMV.

It is because of this:

Whitehall plan for huge database

A giant database of people’s personal details could be created at Whitehall under government plans which ministers say will help improve public services.

Remember that spoof of a phone call from a guy trying to order a pepperoni pizza a couple years back? The person taking the order can see his health records and tells him the pizza will cost over $500 so as to offset the cost of his future healthcare needs and he ends up being slowly wittled down to ordering a salad?

Yep. Improving customer services, my pasty, white ass.

Don’t forget, the brits are attempting to deny emergency services to those whose health conditions their government considers “self-induced”.

RNS Quote of the Day: Rudux

Because I hinted that Part 5 of Boston T. Party’s “5 Levels of Awareness” was rather important, shortly before screwing up the posting of it on Friday, here is a link to Friday’s Part 5.

And here is a link to Part 1, where I listed out a few of the places you can solve the problem of “If you have no training then “Nothing” is exactly what you will do.”

We’ll get back to normal with the QotD tomorrow.

This should have happened years ago

But it didn’t.

And because it didn’t, the Dems now seemingly have the upper hand, media-wise, on “Supporting the Troops”.

Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2007

(c) Amount of Educational Assistance- (1) The amounts payable under this subsection for pursuit of an approved program of education are amounts as follows:

(A) An amount equal to the established charges for the program of education.

(B) Subject to paragraph (2), an amount equal to the room and board of the individual.

(C) A monthly stipend in the amount of $1,000.

The Montgomery GI Bill is fine, but this is your father’s GI Bill; The one which created the greatest period of weath and prosperity this country has ever seen.

Why did the Repubs not do this right after passing the Patriot Act?

When you can corner one, ask them.

If ever there was proof

That the Democrats hate you as a citizen and hate the Constitution as a founding document…

It is this:

Today, in H.R. 1, Democrats will bring legislation to the House floor supporting the transfer of responsibility for a critical national security program to the United Nations. House Republicans will offer a motion to block it.

The Democrat bill supports placing the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) under the purview of the United Nations. This 9/11 Commission report recognized the PSI as an effective program and suggested it be expanded – the Commission did not recommend placing PSI under the UN or any other multilateral regime, nor did it suggest it needed to authorized explicitly in international law.

The PSI is a critical national security initiative – organized by the United States and involving a number of countries – that uses diplomacy, intelligence, and other counterproliferation tools to stop the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. The PSI was a key deterrent to Libya’s nuclear weapons programs, and its dismantling was responsible for uncovering the nuclear “black market” run by Pakistani A.Q. Khan.

The Democrat proposal would force the United States to seek the permission of foreign governments before attempting to interdict illicit WMD material. And it would provide all members of the UN access to the strategies, routes, and participating countries in the PSI, undermining the effectiveness of the program.

Because they hate America as a country in general, and the Constitution in particular, they would give any and all members of the UN who care to look everything we know, all of our tactics and, quite literally, stop the United States from ever stopping a single transfer of chem, bio and nuclear materials.

And because they hate you as a citizen, they would also unionize the security at our airports:

As Paul Seale posted at the Arena of Ideas, the link to the CNN story above only writes about the unions helping give “whistleblower protection” to the security employees. It does not, however, talk about security employees being able to call a strike, which would shut down the nations airports.

Nor does the CNN report talk about how the union can and will go out of their way to protect the incompetent employees. That guy who falls asleep while watching the x-ray machine; he gets to keep his job instead of being fired as he rightly should be. Or the perv who gropes your kid during the pat down; they get to keep their job.

Because of a union.

“Independant” voters voted for change. They’re gonna get that alright.

Airport security may be a joke, but I don’t want it to get any funnier than it already is. A union would make it a live action Monty Python’s Flying Circus sketch, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

If I had a Republican Representative or Senator

I’d ask them to introduce this:

The “Read the Bills Act”

To require before final passage of any Bill the printing and full verbatim reading of the text of such Bill, and each and every amendment attached thereto, to each house of Congress called to order with a quorum physically assembled throughout, the entry of such a printing and reading in the journal of each house of Congress, and the verbatim publication of every such Bill, and each and every amendment thereto, on the official Internet web site of the Senate and the House of Representatives at least seven days before floor consideration and final passage of any Bill, and each and every amendment thereto by each house of Congress; and to provide for enforcement of the printing, reading, entry, publication, recording and affidavit requirements herein.

You want to slow down the creep of government, make it so that they have to stop writing and start reading.

As The Heartless Libertarian wrote a while back: “The Legislature is in session, and thus liberty is once again in greater danger.”

If ever there was proof

That the Democrats are

1. Unfit to govern,

2. Short-bus riding children,

3. Complete and total ninnies

Then it is this story and video.

Enjoy.

Drink alert. You also may want to have your oxygen tank handy if you are prone to laughing youself short of breath.
