The Fix Is In

In Washington State.

Via The Heartless Libertarian’s link to the Washington State Rifle and Pistol Association we find that the Democrats in the Washington State Senate have done an end-run around proceedure to ensure passage of anti-Gun Show bill onto the Senate floor.

To quote HL:

There are now a total of 5 gun bills, two of which are House and Senate versions of the “So-Called Gunshow Loophole” bill. And apparently, despite indications from some in the Democrat leadership, they might actually be serious about this one especially in the Senate, where, instead of sending the bill to the Judiciary Committee, where the Dems only have a 4-3 majority, with some of those being gun-friendly types from rural districts, it was given to the Labor, Commerce, Research & Development Committee, where the Dems rule 5-2 and are all GFWs. Senators need to be told to stop playing games with our rights. Nice way to remind them: they love to talk about “special interests” (Cease Fire WA: 3,500 or so members) vs “public interests” (1,000,000 gun owners.)

The Washington Dems are going to try anything they can to get this passed, even if the majority of their constituents do not approve of either the bill or their methods of passing it.

I asked very nicely for all firearms owners in Washington State to call their elected representatives. This rests on our shoulders if we do not act.

Keep that link handy. There is currently no schedule for their hearing/debating SB-5197 though, if their past actions are any indication, they will schedule the debate with as short a window as possible for notification. They know this bill is unpopular or there would have been no motive to route it through the improper committee. They will want as few people to attend the hearing as possible to try and show that there is no opposition.

I will be checking daily, but my work/sleep schedule is radically different from 95% of the population, so if you can check it as well and then let me know, I can get a post up more quickly that way.

To say that we must to not sit on our asses on this one would be a gross understatement.

On this subject, I went to a gun show this weekend in Washington State.

Unfortunately for you, because of the threat of bill such as SB-5197, I cannot divulge what, if anything, I bought.

Which is really too bad because everyone has been telling me I needed one of these.
