I didn’t want to post on this again

But it looks like we have a new True Meaning of the 2nd Amendment friend.

My recent blog on the Outdoor Life Web site was written with the interest of the hunter’s image in mind.

In it my use of some words inflamed America’s gun community to the point where, in less than 24 hours, they were able to mount enough pressure to cause my TV sponsors to withdraw from my show. Outdoor Life magazine, under similar demands, asked for my resignation, which I reluctantly gave. I had worked for the magazine full time for almost 30 years.

Despite this, I hold no grudge against America’s gun lobby. I have publicly apologized and stated, “I was wrong – big time.” Although I have always been active in advocating hunting rights, I’ve never thought of myself as a spokesman for gun rights.

It was an inevitable outcome. Remember that throughout major firearms incidents, such as the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and Sen. Bobby Kennedy, the more recent Columbine school shootings in Colorado, and the sniper shootings in the D.C. area, there have been flurries of bills to outlaw guns. Those of us who hunt and shoot, or simply own firearms for protection, could have been severely impacted by those bills had they come to pass.

As an example, there have been bills written to do away with “sniper” rifles and “semi-automatic” firearms. To those of us who hunt, that “sniper” rifle could include our Winchester bolt-action elk rifle, or our Browning or Remington shotguns or .22s. The bottom line is that to hunt with a firearm, we must be afforded the legal right to own one.

The Second Amendment, which guarantees us the right to keep and bear arms, has nothing to do with hunting, but everything to do with gun ownership. During the ensuing controversy surrounding my blog, some people have taken me to task for abandoning the Second Amendment. Nothing could be farther from the truth. If I ever, in my wildest dreams, thought the words I had written would bring the validity of the Second Amendment into question, I assure you I never would have touched my fingers to the keypad.

Good on ya, Mr. Zumbo.

Not That We Needed Any

Proof that the Democratic Party and all of it’s minions want America to lose and as many Iraqis as possible to die by the hands of the secular opposites.

Iraqi officials cite lower body count as sign of success in Baghdad security plan

The Baghdad security operation has been under way less than three weeks but has already registered one small success: a sharp drop in the number of bullet-riddled bodies found in the streets — victims of sectarian death squads.

The number of bodies found so far this month in Baghdad — most riddled with bullets and showing signs of torture — has dropped by nearly 50 percent to 494 as of Monday night, compared with 954 in January and 1,222 in December, according to figures compiled by The Associated Press.

The Lt. Gen. Ray Odierno, the No. 2 U.S. commander in Iraq is pessimistic, for good reason. But if this isn’t just a lull in the sectarian fighting, will the Dems step up and actually support the surge and it’s success?

I’m not holding my breath.

To my post from yesterday on “Carbon Credits”, the comments section saw Kirk express an idea that we should start a “Carbon Credit” company to take money from guilt-ridden Global Warming Death Cultists and put it something useful, like practice ammo.

Sadly, it seem that IowaHawk has beaten us to the punch with his “Iowahawk EcoPals Network” that uses his “Beer Fund” button as the donation point.

I like the ammo idea better, but free beer is good too.

*&^@#@%^&!

Mr. Completely informs us that the Washington State Senate Bill 5197 (the anti-gun show bill I spoke of so heavily) was passed out of the LCR&D Committee and is now sitting in the Rules Committee.

It appears that they have changed the language a litle bit (old bill pdf / new bill pdf) by taking out Section D of the old bill making an auction held by a non-profit NOT a gun show (because it clearly is not one).

However, the rest of it is there.

They refused to listen to the will of the people who showed up for the hearing wishing to be heard at a 20 to 1 margin (anti SB-5197 and pro SB 5197, respectively).

More letters. More phone calls. And possibly another trip to Olympia to sit in with the Rules Committee.

After scanning the members of the committee, I cannot see any obvious anti-gun votes there, but it is 15 Dems vs 9 Repubs. I’ll be doing more research and getting back on this tomorrow.

I’m also sure that the same groups who showed up in the Senate will be giving notices about the time and date of the meeting. Watch this space for further notices.

Trading Money for Guilt

There has been a lot of talk these past couple days about AlGore and his waste of natural resources and spewing of the eevviill CO2 from one of his houses in Tennessee being hypocritical.

And it is.

Every single left-wing blog that has broached the subject has defended his wasting ways.

That would be all of them.

Their excuses range from:

“The group that outed him as a waster is a right-wing smear organization no one has ever heard from until now”

To:

“He is allowed his hypocrisy because he is a crusader for the planet”

One of the leftist Global Warming Death Cult Believer blogs has even set up a pseudo-well-thought-out-list of reasons why Gore’s sins are OK. They include both of these excuses, as well as some new ones, such as:

A – People in Tennessee use more electricity than the nation on average, so he is only using three times the Tennessee Average.
B – The Gore Family is not your average family because they’re rich
C – Most of the power used by folks in Tennessee comes from Hydro and Nuclear which doesn’t put out all that much CO2.

But by far, my favorite excuse for Gore being given a pass by the Global-Warming-Death-Cult-osphere is the one about how Gore buys things called “Carbon Credits” to “Offset” his spewing of eevviill CO2 during his daily life into the atmosphere.

If you go to CarbonFund.Org you can calculate your “Carbon Footprint” with their handy “Carbon Calculator”.

Simply enter in the number of people in your household, your KWH per year of electricity and/or Thermals of Natural Gas and/or Gallons of Heating Oil, then add your average miles per year and MPG of your car along with any air traffic miles; hit enter and you can find out just how much eevviill CO2 you are killing the earth with.

What is the point of all this, you ask?

Why, so that you can be made to feel guilty about your Earth-Murdering ways, of course.

Oh yeah, and so that you can give CarbonFund.Org as much money as you feel guilty for.

I currently “owe” them $273. Unfortunately for them, they can have my money when they kiss my hairy, pasty white bottom. I’m not exactly who made them the arbiters of relieving people of guilt, but they seem to have come to the conclusion that they are the equivalent of a Roman Catholic Confessional Booth for the world.

Proving once and for all that this is a cult religion.

Our good man Rivrdog has been writing about “Carbon Credits” on a macro scale. The trading between nations, as set up by the UN or some other international conglomeration of NGO’s is, as RD says, one of the greatest scams ever divised and stemms from one of the greatest lies ever told. The only purpose of this great-big lie and great-big scam is to accomplish the old Marxist dream of redistributing wealth.

Between nations.

This scam from places like CarbonFund.Org accomplishes somewhat of the same things, only instead of your money going to those with little wealth, it goes to organizations that abuse children with their Global Warming Death Cult rantings and, well we don’t know where the rest of it goes.

If you are one of those people with little wealth, you will not be able to afford to offset your “Carbon Footprint”. About the only alternative to being an Earth Murdering Poor Bastard or Bastardette that I can see from their webiste is to drink deeply of the Kool-Aid and voluteer. So either way, it works out for them; they either get money or free labor.

Go to their webpage and look around. Click every link you can find. Other than talking about the “Education Efforts”, CarbonFund.Org” looks to be a collection point for hard cold cash.

But no matter how cold the cash or the amount they collect, I seriously doubt that they could amass enough to stop the “Global Warming”. I mean, the money would just get warm after a while, right?

So if you do ever get a chance to walk amongst the ether-based Global Warming Death Cult true believers, please do ask them just how a person of little means is supposed to “offset the carbon footprint”.

I have and I think you’ll enjoy their answers.

They prove that not only are “Carbon Offsets” a huge scam for the rich to relieve their guilt and that once those of little means get guilt tripped in large numbers about their “need” to pay “Carbon Offsets” or be labelled as Earth Murdering Bastards the left-wing’s entire class warfare scheme is about to blow up in their face, but that these people are truly “Cultists” in every single known sense of the word.

The Soundboard: I Pray the Funk Will Make Me Freaky

Because I have been listening to this album all week, I’ve chosen it for todays selection.

The character the tune is named after is kind of like AlGore, in the sense that you don’t want him talking to your daughter.

RHCP – Sir Psycho Sexy

Though her clothes and hair may be disheveled, at least when Sir Psycho is done talking to your daughter, she still has her analytical thinking skills intact.

Wanted to post this yesterday

But ran out of time (more on that tomorrow).

83 felons freed as state uses too much jail space

Eighty-three convicted criminals — including high-risk sex offenders and violent felons — have been released from two King County jails because they exceeded the total that the state Department of Corrections was allowed to place there.

The felons had all been placed in the jails, in Seattle and Kent, because they were accused of violating the terms of their release from prison. A significant number of the offenders had been arrested because they had missed mandatory appointments with community corrections officers, said a spokeswoman for the union that represents the officers.

Other violations included failing to attend mandatory drug or mental-health treatment.

The mass release on Friday, ordered by the Department of Corrections (DOC), came after repeated complaints from King County about the DOC booking too many people into county facilities.

I am so glad I left that county. They’re not even thinking about building more jails or contracting out to send prisoners to other jurisdiction’s jail systems.

83 more child moletsers and/or hardcore criminals on the streets earlier than expected. They had planned to let more out, but because of the public outcry they decided against it. Of course, no amount of public outcry could make them put those released back in jail.

Meanwhile, the state cannot seem to keep track of the child molesters it has let out previously

A state law aimed at stopping convicted pedophiles from living near schools is a complete failure.

We can prove it.

KIRO Team 7 Investigative Reporter Chris Halsne used high-tech computers to locate more than 900 known child rapists and molesters living inside “school protection zones.”

A convicted child molester lives on a corner in Tacoma, while a school playground is right across the street.

How close is too close?

Last June, state lawmakers thought they answered that question: convicted pedophiles must live at least 880 feet away from a school.

Now, I’m not a fan of the arbitrarily picked “880 feet” rule. That is as dumb as “10 round magazines” or “18in barrels” (how do you like being treated like a child molester, folks?).

However, because child molesters have proven that they cannot be trusted and therefore need to be given an arbitrarily picked distance to stay away from children, I suppose it will have to do.

But why can’t the state run the same diameter from a school” program that the news reporters do?

10 will get you 20 that they’ll claim it is a lack of funding.

Come get your free money!

In yet another case of people liking the numerous entitlement programs our state and federal governments offer, I give you the Costello family of Vacouver, WA.

A Vancouver woman admitted Monday that she coached her two children — beginning when they were 4 and 8 years old — to fake retardation so she could collect Social Security benefits on their behalf.

Rosie Costello, 46, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to conspiracy to defraud the government as well as Social Security fraud. Her son, Pete Costello, 26, pleaded guilty earlier this month, but the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Seattle said Monday that authorities had not located her daughter, Marie.

According to the plea agreement, Costello began coaching her daughter at age 4, and later used the same ruse with her son. He continued to feign retardation into his mid-20s — picking at his face, slouching and appearing uncommunicative in meetings with Social Security officials.

The scheme came to light last year after Pete Costello got a traffic ticket while driving away from the administration’s Vancouver office, then was videotaped acting normally when he contested the ticket in court.

Rosie Costello admitted that she collected more than $280,000 in benefits, beginning in the mid-1980s. Most were paid by Social Security, but the state Department of Social and Health Services paid $53,000.

Pete Costello is scheduled to be sentenced May 11 and faces a standard sentencing range of six months to one year in prison, as well as $59,000 in restitution. Rosie Costello is scheduled for sentencing May 17; her standard sentencing range was not immediately available, but in the plea agreement she agreed to repay the government.

Where are the felony charges for fraud? Why was either of them even offered misdemeanors to plead down to? Where are the child abuse charges for the mother? Where are the “contributing to the delinquency of a minor” charges?

It’s seems as though the feds are just giving the money up as lost and the state has decided to treat this like a six-figure game of “Gotcha!”.

Just out of curiosity, I’d like to see Mama Costello’s voter registration, though I can guess who she likes to vote for.

I’d better stop scratching

Otherwise I’m gonna be right down to touching my brain.

You see, everytime some doomsday report comes out about “Is are childran lerning?”, the left points towards Bush and/or the Republican Party for blame-laying.

And so it goes with Nicole at the left-wing C&L blog after this story in AM NewYork

Twelth-graders’ reading skills have hit a new low, but their grades continue to climb, according to federal officials who suspect the nation’s schools are inflating grades.

Suspicions that teens’ rising grade-point averages may be unmerited are fueled by two new national reports released yesterday at a Washington, D.C., news conference. Both reports are from the National Assessment of Educational Progress, a U.S.-sponsored program that tests representative samples of students in academic subjects.

According to one report, the latest nationwide test results in 12th-grade reading have hit their lowest point since testing in that subject first began. On average, students nationwide scored 286 on a scale of zero to 500 during the last round of tests in 2005 — down one point from 2002 and six points from the first year, 1992.

Federal authorities say they can’t be sure whether this reflects a conscious effort by schools to puff students’ achievements, or whether it may involve other factors as well, such as teacher inexperience in grading.

Unfortunately for Nicole’s hemmoraging BDS, other than major items like “NCLB”, which has shown more successes than failures, everything involving the education, with the exception of fed funding, of children starts with the states and then works its way down to the teachers, which bounces it back to the state teachers unions and finaly to the NEA.

It is not the need to standardize a system of finding out where a student’s learning needs are that is the problem, it is the fact that more time in the classroom is spent on “issues” than on “instruction”.

I’ve written here before that in my recent high school years, I was given more “time to explore” than I was “time to listen”. My teachers would basically let the class run itself, with lesson plans right out of the Wizard of Oz. My Honors English class was, quite literally, a series of lists of sci-fan and/or social commentary books followed by book reports.

Honors History meant that we got to listen to the “socially aware” chuckleheads bitch about how evil America was because the teacher was into “free-form learning”.

I sucked at math, but that didn’t stop the district from stuffing me into ever-more-demanding forms of alphabet-soup math. And because high school has to be as painful as possible, for three years straight, I was stuck with the same Australian “Exchange Teacher” who only knew how to teach Chemistry (which I also sucked at) but doubled as a higher math teacher.

And that was my “Reading, Writing, Arithmetic and Science” (RWAS) education. It was accompanied by three other hours of wasted time per day, consisting of learning another language (I always thought that kids should master their native one before learning how to butcher another), art classes (because art school twerps need an A on their report card too) and some real burned off time in a shop class (applied electronics: how many times can hit you with 220V before you sustain damage?) or gym (ping pong, weightlifting and running around the gymnasium) or sociology/psychology pop science of the day (no need to stick with the established facts) or the eternally interrupted by adolescent laughter class: Health (bathe and brush regularly, farts are natural and tab A goes into slot B).

The classes listed in that last paragraphs were all mandatory. The only “elective” was which variations you were going to take that year.

To top that list of time wasting activities off, every 2-3 weeks, we’d have to break from getting schooled to attend an “Assembly” on one socially insipid topic or another. As it got closer to the end of the school year, the frequency of the asseblies would increase as the administration realized that they’d be losing up for three whole months.

If the NEA and left-wing wannabe pro-education types were serious about getting kids learning something meaningful, they’d demand that the extra-curricular shit listed above be dropped for serious learning topics. Doubling up on RWAS would be a good first start. Making the kids read historical tomes could even double as “Reading”. Giving the schools some backbone to take care of the unruly students and making “Detention” an actual punishment would be a good follow up.

Frankly, I wished my parents had sued for their tax money back, because they, and I, got ripped off.

The start of a trend?

In the Oregon State Senate, the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association made a request that the Senate Judiciary Committee do them a favor.

And the committee obliged. Just what was the favor, you ask?

Make it so that they no longer have to pay for public records searches, AND pass the costs onto the general public.

SB-555

Fourth Estate, indeed.
