National Right-to-Carry Bill Introduced in Senate

Recently, Senator John Thune (R-SD) introduced legislation calling for a national reciprocity of right-to-carry (RTC) licenses for firearm owners across the nation. This bill mirrors one introduced in the House by Representative Cliff Stearns (R-FL) and seeks to create a national system of state-to-state recognition of various RTC licenses and permits.

Much like the recognition of our drivers’ licenses state-to-state, law enforcement officers in Florida would recognize an RTC license or permit issued in Texas. This legislation would eliminate the hassle of having to apply for and carry RTC licenses for each and every state in the Union. The bill not only dispenses with this inconvenience, but also keeps the matter state regulated rather than becoming the responsibility of the U.S. Government.

This is not another CCW that you would have to apply for, it would simply equalize CCW permits with licenses to drive and mariage licenses.

You civic duty awaits.

My Senators are Cantwell and Murray and I’m still writing them, so no excuses!

RNS Quote of the Day: 02/28/07

I’ve said it before, however probably not is so few words

Mere intellectual comprehension of Liberty only goes so far. At some point, one needs the courage to enact it, and the general lack of such in Libertarian/Objectivist circles is the biggest bone of contention I have with them.

Up for general discussion

A legislator in Arizona has proposed a bill that would outlaw “Politics in the Classroom”

To muzzle instructors who champion political views in classrooms, a Republican state legislator has proposed a law that would punish public school teachers and professors for not being impartial in the classroom.

Senate Majority Leader Thayer Verschoor, R-Gilbert, wrote the bill that has drawn a stream of criticism and support since it received preliminary approval in a Senate committee this month.

My kneejerk reaction is to give two very big thumbs up to this. I think we’ve all heard enough about leftist instructors who skew the discussion in any possible lesson to their political leaning. David Horowitz has even created an “Academic Bill of Rights” because of the numerous examples.

There is even a woman in Idaho who has demanded her money back for the English Compositon course she took because of the teacher’s repeated disparaging of Republicans, including, but not limited to, saying that she supports the death penalty as far as she would have all Republican’s put to death (read the article and you’ll see that nowhere does the teacher deny that she said it).

Normally I would support both of these “No Politics in the Classroom” ideas vehemently. Unfortunately the blogosphere has ruined me of being able to support them because I know exactly how the left would use them against teachers doing exactly what teachers are supposed to do: Teach.

You know and I know that leftists are “sensitive” people. Any topic that does not espouse a point of view matching their own is offensive. Even if the topic doesn’t include a point of view that is opposite of their own and actually just states facts as facts and plays it straight down the middle can and usually will be blown up to be a mojor offense.

In my high school years, which weren’t all that long ago, the little socialistas (which were euphamistically called at the time “Future Art School Students”) would raise objections to factual US History.

Anything that made the US look good, like Monroe’s African Slave Trade Patrol, was verbally beaten down and the topic switched to slavery in America (and only in America, mind you), and then why the government should be handing out Reparations. Their luck was that the teacher was a wet towel and had no qualms about topic creep. It didn’t matter that Reparations weren’t going to be on the test, the topic had been hi-jacked.

Now just how long do you think it would be before one of these overly-sensitive and way too “socially aware” brats, who are now more narcissistic than ever, gets offended and uses this new law to file against a teacher who knows how to stick to a lesson plan?

Then you have the parents coming in and bitching about how little Sequoia can’t learn in such a rigid environment. Lawsuits are threatened and just like bad test scores, things change for “those kids”. They are let to act up in class and change the topic while everyone else’s IQ goes down. Only now, the teacher cannot say one thing against the bile spewed.

The teacher I had wouldn’t because he was a wuss. But this law would work in exactly opposite the manner it was intended by placing a gag over the teacher’s mouth if they attempt to rebut the “socially aware” student.

Sorry, but I can guarantee that if the above mentioned legislation is enacted, that scenario will take place before one involving a complaint from a conservative student does.

But what say you?

Interesting couple of items

Both from Uncle’s place

The first is the long requested version of BidPay and Paypal for firearms related items.

GearPay

I haven’t seen it on any of the auction sites as of yet, but I’ve sent emails their way and will be asking prospective sellers.

Unfortunately, as you will see at the link, it seems as though they have already been targeted by crooks sending emails out “confirming payment”. I’d like to see who those people might be connected to.

Secondly, the Lapeer County, Michigan Sheriff’s Department is doing something rather unique that I hope becomes popular:

They are selling one of their nearly unused Colt M-16 A-1’s via sealed bid auction.

If you are qualified to own a Class 3 weapon as per BATF Form 4, you can bid. And I ask kindly that you overbid so as to let other agencies know we in the firearms community will support them if they do these.

I may be too young or just too forgetful to remember, but I remember something about legislation being pushed through Washington DC that would mandate all firearms confiscated by local, state and federal constabularies were to be destroyed.

Here in Washington, I know that none of the various police agencies sell their confiscated firearms. Some do sell their former department issued sidearms to local shops or to designated distributors (like J&G Sales).

Does anyone out there know if my memory serves me well or if I’m just remembering an oddball nightmare from my childhood?

I thought there was a law

About blocking the lawful commission of commerce?

Remeber this photo from last summer?

oly5.jpg

The local moonbats were out blocking shipments of materials heading to Iraq from getting into the Port of Olympia. This truck driver was “adjusting the attitude” of one of these protesters.

The moonbats are now hoping that their threats will keep them from having to stand in the rain and protest the shipments of equpiment to our service men and women “because they support the troops so damn much”.

A local group has promised another round of protests and civil disobedience if military cargo bound for Iraq is loaded at the Port of Olympia.

The Army’s use of the port last year sparked days of protests that led to dozens of arrests.

A group calling itself the Olympia Port Militarization Resistance has launched a campaign of public information and lobbying of elected leaders that it hopes will prevent another confrontation by dissuading the Army from using the port when another Fort Lewis brigade prepares to deploy to Iraq.

“They could make a different choice if they wanted,” said Drew Hendricks, a member of the organization. “Basically, we’re giving them the chance to make that choice.”

Headmistress SondraK says that that statement sounds like a threat to her, and I must agree wholeheartedly.

Nuttier than Squirrel Turds

The Seattle Times gives “Baghdad Jim” McDermott space in it’s op-ed pages to write a propaganda piece promoting HR 808, which seeks to establish a “Department of Peace” (for the paltry sum of $8 Billion annually!).

I won’t give McDermott a single pixel, however. So you’ll have to follow the link to take in the full extent of the nuttiness on display.

Tests to vote aren’t looking so bad right about now

Panel Cites Voter Error, Not Software, in Loss of Votes

Florida election officials announced yesterday that an examination of voting software did not find any malfunctions that could have caused up to 18,000 votes to be lost in a disputed Congressional race in Sarasota County, and they suggested that voter confusion over a poor ballot design was mainly to blame.

While some voters in Sarasota bristled yesterday at the idea that they had done anything wrong in casting their votes, or that nearly 13 percent of all voters could have failed to spot the race on the ballot, members of the investigative team said that those remained the only plausible theories.

The report acknowledged that the huge undervote — in which voters cast a ballot in other races but not for the Congressional seat — was both “abnormal and unexpected.” But it said that all eight members of the investigative team, including some experts who have long been skeptical about the paperless machines, agreed that the basic programming “did not cause or contribute to” the loss of votes.

Not a word of this was found yesterday on the leftist blogs who were so vehemently proclaiming “Diebold and Bush fixed the election!”

I found it at Cap’n Ed’s place instead.

It’s not funny because it’s true

The Heartless Libertarian links to David Kopel writing at Reason Online

Guns Don’t Kill People, Gun Control Kills People

The country of Uganda plans to send about 1,500 troops to Somalia as part of an African Union peace-keeping force. The goal is to stabilize the weak government of Somalia, with the hope that the warlords will voluntarily disarm. Hopefully, Ugandan troops will be more successful in Somalia than they have in their own country.

For months now, Ugandan army troops have been garrisoned in the northeast part of the country under orders to disarm the local populace—pastoral, cattle-herding tribes known as the Karamojong. The army is attempting, and failing, to quash an uprising which was caused by a prior attempt to disarm the same tribes.

But in its effort to “disarm,” the Ugandan army, supported by tanks and helicopter gunships, is burning down villages, sexually torturing men, raping women, and plundering what few possessions the tribespeople own. Tens of thousands of victims have been turned into refugees. Human rights scholar Ben Knighton has used the term “ethnocide” to describe the army’s campaign.

This time, the pretext for the “disarmament” of the Karamojong is United Nations gun control. The Ugandan military is trying to round up every last firearm in Karamoja, supposedly for the Karamojong’s own good.

The procedure is euphemistically called “forcible disarmament.” It works something like this: The misnamed Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) will torture and rape Karamajong, after which some Karamojong might then disclose the location of some hidden guns. Or the army will burn down a village, after which it might find some guns in the ash left behind.

Your tax dollars and mine, given to the UN so that we can stay “members” there, are being used to disarm a populace that has faced genocide within the last couple decades.

You’ve seen the blog-term “Read the Whole Thing” and have probably gone and done so because you knew it was worth it. This is one of those times.

Why I Do It

Yesterday, for those who didn’t/couldn’t stop by, I posted Part 3 of the By Ourselves, For Ourselves Series of posts.

I’ve had one or two private emails stating that my jihadi scenario is a bit far fetched.

I hate it when I have to prove people I like wrong.

A St. Charles man accused of buying automatic weapons and a Claymore mine and bargaining for grenades was indicted this week on four federal machine gun charges.

Mousa M. Abuelawi, 22, of Franjoe Court, was originally arrested Dec. 29 and charged with three counts of illegal possession or distribution of a machine gun and conspiracy to violate machine gun statutes.

An affidavit filed with the court by FBI Special Agent Stephen M. Smith laid out the alleged weapons purchases this way:

During November and December, Abuelawi bought two M-16s, a Heckler & Koch MP-5 fully automatic submachine gun and a Claymore mine from a government informer, not knowing they had been rigged not to work.

He also negotiated to buy a box of 30 grenades and said he wanted any guns the informer could get, “big or small.” The grenades were never delivered.

The men met several times in the 5700 block of West Florissant Avenue, where Abuelawi worked. One of Abuelawi’s co-workers, Thaed Abde Sumad, met with the men once, according to the indictment, and “stated he wants to buy as many explosives as possible because, “we’re going to war.”

All 1934/1968 NFA Constitutionality discussions aside, I’m glad for St. Louis that these guys were caught.

My Nuts

Are nuttier than your nuts

Sen. Patty Murray and Congressman Jay Inslee are lobbying legislators to cancel this week’s hearing on a resolution calling on Congress to investigate and consider impeaching President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. Inslee and Murray, both Democrats who voted against the war, think state lawmakers holding hearings and voting on impeachment is a distraction from what Democrats are doing in Congress, including their efforts to end the war.

Murray’s vote against the Iraq war doesn’t seem to mean much today to anti-war activists. Last week, while Murray was meeting with a group of local police chiefs in Bellevue, protesters asked the chiefs to arrest the senator for war crimes.

The demonstrators were from Stand Up Seattle and the Green Party of Washington State, which are part of the local Occupation Project.

And a quote from the nutter-butters of Occupation Project about their request to have Murray arrested:

They didn’t do it, but in a just world they would have.

HotAir has video of it here

I was planning on going to the range on Thursday afternoon, and if this wasn’t both 40 miles away and in the opposite direction (south) of my residence from my workplace (north) , I would definitely be going to Oly instead.

Why can’t they do these things in the morning?
