The Noisemaker

In the town where Admiral Ahab resides, one of his townfolk was arrested for, well, just as Ahab wrote, Defending his Property.

Go read the story over at What Would John Wayne Do? and help spread the word of how lies told by a group of belligerent delinquents takes precedent over the property owner.

They’re not on the other side

They are actually fighting with the enemy

From Powerline Blog

Earlier today, Congressman Eric Cantor wrote the following letter to Pelosi:

Dear Madam Speaker:Fifteen kidnapped British marines and sailors recently became the latest victims of a systematic Iranian campaign of terror and international defiance. The illegal seizure of the British forces is a signal that Iran views us as powerless to prevent it from realizing its aggressive ambitions.

For the sake of our standing in the world, our allies and most importantly the 15 British personnel and their families, I urge you to bring H. Res. 267 to the floor today before we adjourn. The resolution calls for the immediate and unconditional release of the British marines and sailors. It would also call on the U.N. Security Council to not only condemn the seizure, but to explore harsher sanctions to counter the growing Iranian threat.

In case HR-267 is news to you, let me just fill you in:

Pelosi refused to let it come to the floor for a vote.

I have been listening to Air America all week and heard nearly every single host sayat least one of the following phrases (I’m paraphrasing here) : “The British must have been in Iranian waters, otherwise why would the Iranians do this?” and “If they weren’t in Iranian waters, how come they haven’t released the GPS location numbers of the the Brit’s boat?” and “The Iranians were provoked by Bush’s war in Iraq! If these soldiers are tortured and/or murdered, it’s Bush’s fault!” and “Hopefully, the Iranians will use these soldiers to get the Brits out of Iraq altogether and permenantly!”

Those are just a few of the bits of bile coming out of the mouths of the radio representatives of the “Progressive left”.

is there anything they won’t do to undermine this country?

Didn’t think so.

Not-So-Mystery Machine

Seeing as how I grabbed the non-photoshopped pic of the “Mystery Machine” (the one with the placard that said exactly what it was showing plainly), I’ll just release the final pic of the prototype Dodge Charger.

mystery03.jpg

For those just joining us, you can scroll down to peek at the other pictures and see what you think.

Now, I don’t remember exactly which year auto show these pics were from, but it had to be around 2001/2002.

While I like the version of the Charger currently on the market a whole lot, this car kicks it’s ass from here to Toledo. Times change and maybe this will be the next body style? They’ve already started playing with the Chrysler 300, making it more swoopy and not so blocky.

A guy has to have hope, ya know.

Not today

No QotD today, instead I’m going to partially explain my abusing of the 5.56 cartridge during the earlier part of the week. I say only “partially” because something new has developed and the original plan has changed into something bigger and better.

So, I’ve been abusing the 5.56’s use in the Mil-Spec platform because even though I find the rifle an abjectly horrible firearm for nearly any use (not for the reasons Zumbo laid out in his lifechanging screed, but in a fit, form and function sort of way), I decided that I had better get it out of my system before I let another one enter my abode.

Yes, I will be getting a new Stoner rifle in my home soon.

Those that know me will know why the rifle is repugnant to me, the rest of y’all will have to wait to find out. I am still nailing down some particulars of the deal, though I should be done by tomorrow. This deal is so fuckin’ cool, you will probably want to think about doing this yourself. It is nothing you can buy into and I’m not getting special prices, so hold your emails.

I haven’t been this excited about getting a new gun in a while.

And since I mentioned Jim Zumbo above, did you know that he reads RNS?

That is about all I can gather after reading this in GunWeek

But the disaster to his career has not made Zumbo want to run and hide, though many of his critics say he should. Instead, Zumbo is going to use this experience to become what he hopes will be the worst nightmare that gun-grabbing politicians and gun control activists could imagine.

“I want to join the fight, do whatever it takes,” he said in earnest. “Let’s educate the other dumb people like me who didn’t know about AR-15s. I will lead that charge.

“I’m stupid,” he added, admitting that he has never had what some people might call a “fascination” with firearms. “From my ignorance, let’s enlighten everyone else.”

Zumbo said he could have retired a year ago, and he could do likewise today, but in his heart, he feels a responsibility to square himself, and use his energies to unite the hunting and shooting fraternities, which do not always see eye-to-eye, even in this controversy.

“I want to come out of this and make our gun and hunting community a better place, a more understanding place,” he said. “Within our community, some hunters don’t understand shooters, and some shooters don’t understand hunters…I have got to fix this.”

In the above link to my previous post, I asked him to hit the road when he got done with Uncle Ted, and spread the word that the 2nd Amendment isn’t about hunting. I got my wish and if it wasn’t for the anti-Bill of Rights dweebles using Zumbo’s interweb spanking for fodder, I say that this was a 100% good thing.

I’ll take the 95% thing right now, though.

Life moves pretty fast: Updated

When you’re trying to make it slow down.

Some folks may have noticed that I’m not my normal, everyday, chipper self as of late. The cussin’ has gotten to a point where it is starting to elicit emails, so I figure I’d better explain.

The wife is gone home to be with her mother who, last week, was found to have colon cancer. She’s gone to help keep things stable during the time of many hospital visits and consultations. The prognosis is good and it looks like an isolated growth, but all things being equal, we’d just rather that it never occured.

It is just me and the dogs and my work and that sucks. Usually the wife is there to calm me out a bit before getting on here and ranting, so you may understand, with that element gone, I’m backsliding to bachelor-land. There, anyone and everyone can piss up a rope and suck out the wet if they get me on a bad day, and I have zero tolerance for bullshit from non-realted entities (I’ve told y’all before that I’m not a people person).

The surgury to remove the growth is today, so if’n ya got an extra bit of luck handy or are of the prayin’ kind, tossing one towards the mother-in-law’s Helena, MT operating room would be appreciated.

We now return to our regularly scheduled programming.

Have a nice day.

UPDATE: Good news from The Wife!

The surgury went well and her mom is ready to leave the hospital, though the docs are not going to let her do that and have issued a Morphine drip to keep her from thinking she can walk.

Just a couple swats with some chemo and she’ll have gained the “Cancer Survivor” badge.

Thanks to all who wished us well. It was very appreciated.

Betcha Won’t Hear About This in the News

Just another reason why TSA shouldn’t be unionized.

This morning, my brother, a doctor, drove from his home near Lake Tahoe to the Sacramento airport to catch a commuter flight to San Francisco Airport, where he had another flight to catch.

He, along with hundreds of other people, missed their commuter flights because Sacramento TSA didn’t show up for work today. They apparently had a single person working to screen for all flights. The line was ridiculous.
I found out about this when he called me to ask whether or not the local public-transit train system (BART) allowed long-term parking, because he’d just driven from Sacramento all the way to Concord in order to hop the train to San Francisco airport. Amazingly, I think he’ll make it in time to board his flight out of San Francisco.

(When working for a legal courier service, I once drove from Sacramento to downtown San Francisco in 45 minutes flat. I’m sure my brother performed a similar feat today. Neither one of us have any professional speed-driver training, but our dad raced in Germany while he was in the Air Force, so maybe there’s some genetic carryover or something. Or maybe it’s just that the average Californian practices driving really fast on the freeway every day.)

The Sounboard: Non-Honkey Edition

Warning: Contains Explicit Jive

I got this in the mail a couple weeks back and this mix album, along with another that I may showcase in the near future is all that I have been listening to on the way to and from work since.

All you Zucker Bros. fans, get your DVDs out. The samples on this track are taken from one of their films and put to very good use, even if, in my opinion, they are used much too sparingly.

Don’t be fooled by the title.

RNS Quote of the Day: 03/29/07

It’s a doozy.

“Our culture is important, and we’re willing to pay for it. We have above-average educations, above-average incomes and almost nonexistent criminal involvement. We pay far more in taxes and receive virtually no subsidy payments. You’d think Washington would be happy, but instead they are doing all they can to destroy our culture.

“In the 20’s, soldiers sat on their bunks in the cold at Camp Perry, cleaning the handmade .22 target rifles they would compete with the next day. When the President proudly announces that today, he is ordering these same guns thrown into a blast furnace, we in the gun culture feel powerful emotions. They are the same emotions a Native American would feel if the President proudly ordered the destruction of war clubs and other sacred tribal artifacts. They are the same emotions that Jews felt watching newsreel footage of Nazi Sturmtroopen gleefully burning intricate copies of the Torah.

“We offer to buy the government’s surplus guns, and instead they pay to have them cut up. We offer to buy their surplus military ammo, shoot it, sell the brass to a smelter, and give the governement the proceeds, and instead they pay to have it burned.

“These government slugs ban our guns and they ban our magazines and they ban our ammo. They ban suppressors that make our guns quieter and then ban our outdoor shooting ranges because our guns are too loud. They ban steel core ammunition because it’s “Armor Piercing”, then they close down our indoor ranges where people shoot lead-core bullets because they say we might get lead poisoning.

“The people in the gun culture have a better safety record than any police department in the nations, but several states actually prohibit us from using guns for self-protection, and in all the other states except one they make us buy a license. They tax us so we can have more cops, and when crime still goes up, they tax us more and ban more of our guns.

“People in the gun culture endure waiting peiods that no other group would stand for. We undergo background checks that no legislator, judge, doctor or police officer has to tolerate, and we submit to it not once, or once a year, but over and over again. Then, after we yield to this outrage, they smile and forbid us from buying more than one gun in a 30-day period.

“If we sell one gun that’s gone up in value, they can charge us with dealing in firearms without a federal dealer’s license, which is a felony. If we get a dealer’s license, they say we are not really a business, and report us to our local authorities for violating zoning ordinances by running a commercial venture out of a residence.

“If the steel or wood on our guns is too long or too short, they make us pay $200 taxes and get fingerprinted and photgraphed. They make us get a law enforcement certification from the local police chief. If refuses to sign we have no recourse. If he takes the forms in the next room and brings them back out, signed, he can later claim the signature is not his, and the feds will charge us with a felony.

“We in the gun culture have played all the stupid games on NFA weapons for over half a century, without a single violent crime being committed by any person in the system. So when a bill comes up to keep travellers with guns locked in the truck of their cars out of jail, what happens? A scumbucket from New Jersey, where NFA weapons are illegal already, puts an amendment on it that closes down the whole NFA process.

“Then, if they suspect we’ve ignored the $200 tax process altogether, on the guns where the wood and steel is too long or too short, they’ll spend over a million dollars watching us for months, then they’ll shoot our wifes and children or burn us alive. When the public gets outraged by these actions, the government issues letters of repreimand and sends they guys on paid leave. In the decades that the feds have been raiding and killing people in the gun culture over suspected non-payment of $200 taxes, not one federal agent has been fined a single dollar or spent even one night in jail” Fleming stopped for a moment and took another drink of tea.

“And you know something else that’s never happened, Ray? To this day, not a single person in the gun culture has ever dropped the hammer on one of these feds. Not once.

Then, after these statist bastards have done all these things, they grin and tell us how much they like to hunt ducks, and how the only laws they want to pass are “reasonable ones”. Henry and Ray both looked at their friend. Neither had anything to add at that moment. It was Ray Johnson who finally spoke.

“I know everything you say is true,” he said. “I still can’t quite believe it.” He was quiet again, then asked a question. “What do you think is going to happen?”

One of two things,” Fleming said with a sigh. “One of the political parities is going to have to wake up, smell the coffee, and start restoring and reaffirming all the articles in the Bill of Rights: The Second, Fourth, Fifth and Tenth Amendments.”

“And if that doesn’t happen?” Ray asked gently. Fleming took several moments before he spoke, though it was obvious he knew exactly what he was going to say.

“Then we’re going to have a civil war.”

Mystery Machine

A couple weeks back I showed y’all a pic of a car from a long time gone auto show and asked you to guess what that vehicle became.

It’s game time again, only this time, it’s going to be more difficult.

Take a looksee at this pic

mystery01.jpg

Take a guess at what said vehicle, that is currently on the road, though only recently, became.

There will be another pic tomorrow and a third on Friday for those who wish to hold their guesses.
