Announcements

The lady-friend of Professor Booty who was supposed to have her eulogy posted this weekend has backed out and I haven’t gotten an answer or photo yet from next week’s lady, so there’ll be none of that today. Sorry, I waited as long as I can, but I have to catch a few ZZZ’s this morning afternoon, because….

I’m having dinner tonight with Boomershoot founder, Joe Huffman and his wife, Barb.

And you’re not (neener).

See y’all tomorrow.

In the mail

I’ve written before about the City of Tacoma water and my office style water cooler/filtering system.

But yesterday I got this letter in the mail:

Dear Tacoma Water customer,

In the last several weeks, you may have noticed a yellow tint to your water. If so, I can assure you that your water is safe to drink. Tacoma Water prides itself on supplying you with clean, aesthetically pleasing water. Frankly, the discolored water that we are delivering does not meet out visual quality standards. I apologize for that.

The letter goes on to exlpain about the seasonal drop in oxygen levels in the reservoir, the higher iron and manganese mineral levels when this occurs and about how the water is treated so as to make it safe to drink.

I had been noticing the yellowish tint of the water in the commode bowl the last few weeks, wondering if maybe I was having plumbing problems, so this letter is welcome.

But not just for that reason. The fact that I actually got an apology from a city official, John Kirner, Tacoma water Superintendant, is just so shocking to me that I had to re-read the thing. After having lived in either King County or Seattle for decades, to find an apologetic letter to a untility customer, even one taken out of a pile probably 50,000 pages tall, was just about enough to make me sit down (someday I’ll have to tell y’all about how Seattle’s CNG supplier cut my block off from heat, in one of the coldest February’s in recent memory, for a 10 days, on purpose).

King County/Seattle wouldn’t have done that, and if you called to ask if there was a problem their response would have been along the lines of “Yeah, what do you want us to do about it.

And the fact that there wasn’t a single word about how this is all the fault of Global Warming, was nice as well.

Thankee, John Kirner and the City of Tacoma.

More from the Reagan Diaries:

Friday, April 17 [1981]

Good Friday and while representatives of the Nat. Co. [National Council] of Churches paraded (carrying the cross) in front of the W.H. protesting our effort to help El Salvador Cardinal Cooke of N.Y. came to visit us in the W.H. He’s a good man and doing magnificent work in ed. in the inner cities.

Sometimes I think (forgive me) the Nat. Co. believes God can be reached through Moscow.

My, How Times have Changed

This is what “The Sensitive Male” and multiculturalism has done to our society

In September 1898, an outnumbered British-led army battled the forces of a Muslim fanatic in Omdurman, Sudan. The Brits unleashed machine-gun fire and artillery on the primitive warriors and suffered a loss of 48 dead and 434 wounded, while killing 9,700, wounding 13,000 and capturing 5,000 of the enemy. Winston Churchill, who was present, called it “the most signal triumph ever gained by the arms of science over barbarians.” The British ruled Sudan for another five decades.

In October 1993, badly outnumbered American troops battled the forces of a Somali clan leader in Mogadishu. We unleashed machine-gun fire and helicopter gunships on the primitive warriors and suffered 18 fatalities and 73 wounded to as many 5,500 Somali killed and wounded. It was a fight nearly as lopsided as the Battle of Omdurman, but the U.S. was out of Somalia within a year.

Since the 1990s, we have witnessed the revenge of the tribes. For hundreds of years, the result — with some spectacular exceptions — of a clash between modern and primitive armies was a bloodbath and disorienting humiliation for the primitive forces. When Inca emperor (and sun god) Atahualpa ventured out into battle in 1532 with a force of 80,000 against an invading Spanish contingent of 168, he was immediately captured and eventually executed. Now, tribes, clans, and primitives of all sorts represent one of the most intractable problems in the war on terror.

Thanks, libs.

RNS Quote of the Day, 08/18/2007

From the Reagan Diaries:

Monday, March 30 [1981]

Left the hotel at the usual side entrance and headed for the car — suddenly there was a burst of gun fire from the left. S.S. Agent pushed me onto the floor of the car & jumped on top. I felt a blow in my upper back that was unbelievably painful. I was sure he had broken my rib. The car took off. I sat up on the edge of the seat almost paralyzed by pain. Then I began coughing up blood which made both of us think — yes I had a broken rib & it had punctured a lung…. I walked into the emergency room and was hoisted onto a cart where I was stripped of my clothes. It was then we learned I’d been shot & had a bullet in my lung.

Getting shot hurts.  …[M]y fear was growing because no matter how hard I tried to breathe it seemed I was getting less & less air. I focused on that tiled ceiling and prayed. But I realized I couldn’t ask for God’s help while at the same time I felt hatred for the mixed up young man who had shot me. Isn’t that the meaning of the lost sheep? We are all Gods children & therefore equally loved by him. I began to pray for his soul and that he would find his way back to the fold….

Whatever happens now I owe my life to God and will try to serve him in every way I can.

The Friday Soundboard: The King is Dead Edition

And now onto what I had planned on posting before the death of Elvis Aaron Presley moseyed its way onto my Thursday postings.

I posted some vids I found last weekend because I still, at that time, could not find my Reverend Horton Heat discs. I thought I had put them into one of the boxes containing the CDs I wasn’t currently keeping on the wall in the RNS Tacoma HQ, but apparently not. I will be breaking those little legs they’ve grown in multiple places when I do find them.

In the meantime, I repurchased my two favorite albums for your enjoyment today.

For those that don’t already know about The Rev, he sings about three things: Women, Cars and Booze. Usually all at the same time.

My favorite albums of his are two of his earliest: The Full Custom Gospel and as I mentioned over the weekend Liquor in the Front.

Since the vids came from 1994’s Liquor, these tracks will be from 1993’s Full Custom

Gretsch antics and not so subtle innuendo

Wiggle Stick

And he wouldn’t be much of a Reverend if he didn’t try and warn you about the evils of Satan, now would he?

The Devil’s Chasin’ Me

Enjoy.

Btw, I did find a very special treat for y’all next week in the box I thought the Rev discs were in, so join me, won’t you?

Picture Your Healthcare Here

I’ll be travelling through the foreign country north of my current location in the next couple months, but I didn’t bother with getting a passport as I won’t be flying in. Not that I would have gotten it in time anyway, from what I understand about the wait times, and I’ve been planning this trip since before last Christmas.

So don’t go looking at me when this bill comes due.

The nation’s passport headaches may be easing a bit, but now comes the bill: almost $1 billion.

New travel rules that swamped passport offices and frustrated U.S. travelers this summer will cost the government an estimated $944 million over three years, according to federal paperwork filed Wednesday.

That amount is more than three times the State Department’s estimate for the first three years.

To raise the extra dollars, the department wants to keep a larger share of what U.S. citizens pay to get a passport — $20 of the nearly $100 fee for first-time applicants instead of $6.

Kurtis Cooper, a State Department spokesman, said the new proposal will not increase the cost of passports to the public.

The department initially figured it would cost $289 million between budget years 2006 and 2008 to handle the boost in demand for passports created by post-Sept. 11 security measures passed by Congress and implemented by the Homeland Security Department.

Now, the passport rules are expected to cost $944 million in budget years 2008 to 2010.

The new cost estimate stunned members of Congress.

“Incompetence and poor planning have not only inflicted high costs and personal angst on consumers, but are now likely to cost the State Department itself an astounding amount,” said Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. “Let us hope Homeland Security and the State Department can improve their coordination and avoid egregious mistakes.”

Excuse me, Dipshit Chuckie has been in government far too long and I need to correct that last paragraph right-quick for New York State’s retarded Senior Senator Schumer.

Incompetence and poor planning have not only inflicted high costs and personal angst on consumers, but are now likely to cost the US taxpayer an astounding amount, just as any and all government run programs do.” said Senator Charles “Fucknozzle” Scum-er, D-N.Y.

There we go. I’m feeling much better now that his statement is factually correct.

Fingers Firmly in Ears

And screaming “La-la-la-la-la” under their pillows.

A writer at the uber-leftist FireDogLakeBlog pounded ground to get California Democrat Jerry McNerney elected to the House of Representatives. McNerney ran on a “It’s a Civil War and yesterday isn’t soon enough to get the US out of Iraq” platform.

McNerney recently got back from an actual tour of Iraq and said that after what he saw during his time in the country, he is now willing to be ” a little more flexible about when the troops should be brought home.”

The blogger is currently accusing McNerney of reading “Republican talking points” and is nearing a bit of an emotional break down of sort over it.

It seems to me that as stakeholders in McNerney’s 2006 Congressional campaign, those of us who supported him with both our dollars and our boots on the ground are owed an explanation for his sudden decision to embrace the rhetoric of “progress” in Iraq and his new policy of accommodation.

Oh, I don’t know. Maybe now that he isn’t reading the CodePink literature every single morning and has actually seen what the American mission has done there, maybe he actually means it?

Nah! It’ll be duelling conspiracy theories at high noon over at FDL.

Spreading Propaganda

Whose propaganda is for you to judge.

The Southern Poverty Law Center, a racist organization who supposedly fights against racism, has posted this video on YouTube.

That video, according to the SPLC, depicts a member of the Minutemen Southern Border Watch shooting at illegal immigrants making their crossing.

Where they got the video, they’re not saying. Who it is in the video, they’re also not telling. There is purportedly a second video showing the actual murder of an illegal immigrant, though that video is no longer available on YouTube.

Oddly enough, no charges have been filed against whomever it is in the video or the person who recorded it.

Sorry, but I know one Minuteman personally and am friends with the brother of another. Neither of them would do this and they would both report anyone they suspected of doing anything of this sort, going so far as to stop their activities with the Minuteman groups if the problem wasn’t addressed to their satisfaction.

I’m not buying it.

What say you?

You all can go to Hell, I’m going to…

well, not Texas, but…somewhere else. Somewhere secluded, self-sufficient, and defensible….

Well, not yet for me, anyway. I’m still working on my ten-year plan to get out of Kalifornia (or at least, have someplace outside Kali to go to if SHTF). Phil, on the other hand, has been making noises about movin’ towards Sandpoint, I-de-ho.
Well, lo & behold, a majority of the properties for sale on Jim Rawles’ new Survival Realty site are in or around Sandpoint. And this is a pretty cool survivalist-minded real estate site — with, among other things, a retreat analysis for each property, and lots of the right kind of pictures to evaluate the place from a survival perspective. You won’t find that, sad to say, on eaglestarlands or the multitude of other acreage-on-the-net sites I’ve been surfing since 2000 or thereabouts. (Now if wallowamountainproperties would adopt this approach, I’d be in heaven….)
In other Rawles stuff, I should point out that I just noticed he’d updated his screenplay for Patriots a couple months back. Looks like some significant (and needed) edits from the last time I read it several years ago. Check it out. In some ways, the old screenplay was a better read than Patriots itself. This updated version is better still.
