What I’d Rather Be Doing Today

This

Or even just this

Because they shouldn’t be allowed to call it “Drifting” unless there are actual “drifts” involved. Otherwise, it is just a controlled slide (and boring).

But even though 2 mountain passes within an hour of me will have two feet of fresh powder on them my dark today, after having gotten a first fresh foot yesterday, I have “responsibilities” to take care of and will be in the melted snowfall (aka:Rain).

Good thing I’m not a liberal, otherwise I’d just keep putting them off until I could make them someone else’s problem.

In Memorium: The Booty Eulogies

The tint of my submitted photo is because of the light that was lost in Las Vegas when we heard of John Thomas’ passing.

I wished you’d stayed in Vegas, JT.

Christmas Comes Early This Year

…because I WON A KNIFE from Last Man Standing Defense!

I’ve lived with my last name for long enough that the moment John Chapman intoned “David… unpronounceable” I knew it was me. And sure enough, an email from the man himself was waiting in my inbox.

cat200.jpgThe knife I won is a TOPS Knives C.A.T-057, and it comes with a Kydex sheath. I can’t seem to find that particular model on the TOPS website, but here’s their C.A.T. lineup. The C.A.T. 200 is pictured at left (click for bigger). Looks like some nice knives!

.
Here’s the story: A while back I posted about the great experience Derek, the Packing Rat, had at the LMS Defense pistol course he attended. I’d never heard of this outfit, but Derek gave a rave review, and they sound like a top-notch organization with excellent training. Derek was kind enough to invite me to join him in an LMS Defensive Medicine class this coming Spring, and I promptly signed up. One of the benefits, Derek pointed out, is that anyone enrolling in an LMS Defense class before 4:00pm December 24th is eligible to win nifty prizes! They’re picking new winners each day and calling it their “Twelve Days of Christmas” event. Very, very kewl.Tom-boy.jpg

Well, this past week was one of the more hectic and draining I’ve experienced — I learned that trying to convince multiple attorneys from different firms on different coasts to agree on a single document is far, far worse than herding cats — so when I got home from the office Saturday evening (grr) I was well and truly ready to veg out with the Intartubes. So I was just surfing and sipping bourbon when I meandered over to the LMS Defense Twelve Days of Christmas thread and watched the video for Day No. 1. My reaction is at right.

…
Obviously I’m quite happy and want to say a very big “Thank You” to Mr. Chapman and the rest of the folks at LMS Defense, and to Rick and Ann Morello at Tactical-Ops Nevada for donating the knife. And to the Packing Rat, for bringing this great company to my attention.

And I’ll definitely be taking their suggestion to spread the giving to a good charitable cause like FisherHouse.org that helps wounded veterans and their families.

There are lots of LMS Defense classes on all sorts of great subjects, and at great prices too. Sign up for one, and start checking the Twelve Days of Christmas thread yourself!

Get a move on!

Fred’s looking for 2400 donations in 24 hours.

It being the Christmas season, and I being flush with more than just Frederalism, I tossed him a Franklin.

What are you going to do?

Take a minute

I know time is tight right about now, holidays and all, but do take a minute a read this post at Big Lizards by Sachi titled “the Men on the Wall”.

It is a true tale that includes Hobbits and US Marines and Okinawa, and most of all, a life lesson that approximately 30% of the United States has not learned and can never be taught.

Use it if you’ve got it

Local high school kid finds the classmate occupying the locker next to him is a registered sex offender.

Guess who wasn’t notified.

Anyone but the school administrators.

Guess what happened to the non-registered sex offender

Boy suspended for warning students of sex offender on campus

A Pierce County High School student is back in school after a three-day suspension for warning classmates about a sex offender on campus.

Last week, Raydon Gilmore found a 16-year-old fellow student at Gig Harbor High School at the Washington State Sex Offender Information Center, a Web site that lists the state’s level 2 and level 3 sex offenders.”Then it hit me that I was in P.E. freshman year, and this kid was there for a while and he was my neighbor at my locker,” Gilmore told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

The 16-year-old was convicted of indecent liberties and using force.

Gilmore made copies of the announcement and started handing them out to classmates “to let them know that we’re going to school with dangerous people and to be more aware.” Three other students helped create and distribute fliers. He said minutes later, the school’s principal caught up with him.

The same announcement that was handed out in the kid’s neighborhood is “Harrassment” if it is brought onto school grounds?

I realize the kid has to go to school, but damn, just to let him walk around freely like that without anyone watching him?

I remember some of the things I used to get away with on schools grounds, and while none of the were forcable groping or rape, some of them took more time and made more noise.

If you have access to your community’s sex offender database, use it. Find out who lives near you, and who your child is going to school with.

Guess who’s back

Back again.

RD’s back. Tell a friend!

Yes-sah! Our good man Rivrdog is back in the interwebs, having taken some time off to write his novel, which as I understand it, is coming along swimmingly, hence the return.

So top on by and see what he’s been up to.

Also, by all means, if you see a link to a Blosnot blog called “Guns make us Free” or see comments from some jackhole calling himself “NRA Fourever”, do not click on the link, do not dare anyone to click on the link.

Think “The Gun Guys” meets a crack smoking Tom Sizemore.

And lastly, I’ve injured myself at the health club, which I find more than a bit ironic, so I’m a bit gimpy and sore on the left wing portion of my person. Hence, the less of me around these parts the last couple days. On the upside though, I feel great until I try and lift something w/my left arm.

Later, taters.

XP-100, Clean and Shiny

Earlier I mentioned my new-to-me XP-100 in .223 Remington and how it had arrived utterly filthy and in need of a good cleaning.

Well, here it is all shiny, with its newly-polished case:

The Soundboard: Christmas Tunage

It is traditional that The Soundboard switches to more festive tunage around this part of the year.

I am also a couple weeks later with it than usual, but with all the time I’ve been spending at work, I’m just not feeling all that “Christmas-ee” like.
I’m hoping this will help me (and help you too if you’re having the same a problem).

It Came Upon A Midnight Clear – The McCallans

Also

The Greensleeves Jig – Laura MacKensie (I’m sorry, but this disc is oop)

Now don’t be afraid, ye who are new to the Christmas tunian (pronounced: toon-yan) of the Mighty-Mighty RNS, it only be bagpipes.

Oi! and Merry Christmas to ye.

Baked

bill_hillary_hippies.jpg…and I’m not just talking about Hillary’s peach pie she made while living in Berkeley with Bill in 1971. I’m shocked, shocked I tell you, that we haven’t heard more about the First Couple’s Berkeley adventures before. Well, now you can read a fellow resident’s take on it here.
