McCain an F? Nope.

In a comment to this post, Rivrdog notes that GOA’s given John McCain an F rating. That should give any gunny pause. Except….

Here’s a fisking of that rating. h/t: Sebastian. Money quote:

Bottom line, the credibility of the Gun Owners of America (and by implication Larry Pratt) isn’t worth the paper I just used to wipe my ass.

After some thought, I figure McCain rates a C or thereabouts. Not a F, though.

The Parts Are In

P2080001.JPG

Actually they’ve been in, I just haven’t had time to pick them up.

But that’s OK, I couldn’t get Buddy seen until today.

Which is the other bit of news: He’ll be spending the weekend at a friend’s home gettin’ hung.

What you see above is the Rubicon Express 3.5in SuperRide lift kit like the one you can find here. Though, i didn’t buy it from them and I didn’t pay that much for it. I also picked up the Extended Slip Yolk for installation here until I can afford to go w/a CVF Driveshaft.

Before and after pics next week (hopefully Monday) and if I can convince my boss that me coming in a couple hours late tonight won’t stop the planet from turning, some during pics too.

Anyway, I’m off to the shop. Up, Up and hopefully not away.

SB 6860 Follow-Up

It seems that the turnout for yesterday’s hearing in Olympia was excellent

The debate before the Senate Committee on Higher Education touched on everything from the Second Amendment to last year’s fatal mass shooting at Virginia Tech.

Neither measure is likely to go anywhere in this year’s short legislative session, said Sen. Paull Shin, D-Edmonds, the committee chairman. He suggested the sponsors work out their differences and come back next year.

From what I understand about dotgov speak, that is language that basically states “We won’t have a vote on this because it’ll pass and the one I co-sponsored won’t and I don’t want to give the full Senate a chance to make this law”

After going through the media scare tactic of listing campus shootings that have happened over the past couple years, the article continues

The hearing attracted a handful of college students, including some from the UW, who testified in favor of concealed weapons on campuses.

Trip Volpe, a UW student who has a concealed weapon permit, called the policy against weapons on campus ineffective and added “there’s very little anyone can do to stop a person with a gun in hand and murder in their hearts.”

During the current session, Gov. Chris Gregoire requested a bill aimed at improving campus safety, but it did not touch on the gun issue. Idaho’s Legislature is also considering a bill similar to Roach’s.

Pro-gun backers showed up in force, handing out buttons opposing the gun-banning bill. They argued that people who want to use guns to hurt people would not care about weapon bans.

“I want to make sure the record reflects that Virginia Tech was a gun free zone, and results (were) painfully predictable,” said Brian Judy, testifying for the National Rifle Association. “Only the victims were gun free.”

He’s right, and the reporter knows it, so they close the article by giving the gun bigots the scaremongering last words

“Well-intentioned people who have firearms and want to save the day often end up adding to the violence of the situation or becoming victims themselves,” said Kristen Comer, executive director of Washington Cease Fire. “Any time we start to get into the area of vigilante justice, it’s a bit precarious.”

Ahh, how wonderful that they always fall back on the stereotypical platitude that any person who wishes to take up their human right of self defense are vigilantes.

Ms. Corner, you disgust me.

So, a draw in Washington State for the time being. If the excellent Senator from Auburn, Pam Roach, has anything to do about it, we will be seeing more of SB 6860 in the future.

But, now all the Idahoans have business to take care of along this very same line.
And Marylanders have a new issue to deal with

Two Maryland lawmakers, both Democrats, have introduced a bill that would bar anyone under the age of 13 from getting a hunting license. Critics say there is no justification for establishing a minimum age.

House Bill 655, sponsored by State Delegates Barbara Frush and Virginia Clagett, would prohibit the Maryland Department of Natural Resources from issuing a hunting license to anyone under the age of 13. Future hunting license applications would require the applicant’s date of birth.

Right now, the State of Maryland issues “junior licenses” to children under 16 who pass a firearms and hunter safety course.

I’m not quite clear, but are they taking away Hunter’s Safety courses in favor of just giving anyone over the age of 13 a license? I certainly hope not, for it would be just about the most ignorant thing I’ve ever heard.

And as Rob Sexton of the US Sportsman’s Alliance said in the linked article, this is a direct attack on the future of the hunting sports. The USSA have done studies showing that after the age of twelve, interest in getting into hunting drops dramatically.

Seems to me as though some Maryland state delegates have also read those studies.

RNS Quote of the Day: 02/08/08 and More!

As you probably noticed, I accidentally published the QotD intended for today yesterday. What can I say, those are the results of blogging instead of sleeping

It seems that Senator Jim DeMint’s wish to take Berkeley’s federal cash away has spoken to folks. The item in question will be rewritten. I don’t think this will be enough for DeMint. Especially if the city doesn’t rescind the giving a parking spot right in front of the recruitment office to the Code Pinkos.

But this article has a quote I want to share exactly the problem Code Pink’s members have with understanding the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

I was under the impression that we have the right of free speech,” said Xanne Joi of Code Pink. “To me, I thought free speech meant you get to say what you want without recrimination.”

I believe that Ms. Joi is feeling persecuted. Sadly for her, she is not the City of Berkeley, nor is she a member of the city council. She and the group she belongs to may say whatever they want without recrimination, the city and their governing members (when acting in the official capacities) may not.

I have no problems with city, county or state officials telling the federal government where to stuff it. I actually kind of like it when they do that very thing. But when this happens, the federal government has every right, whether the city, county or state is right or wrong, to enact punishment. It is then up to the people to decide who is right and who is wrong. If the fed is in the wrong, then they have to apply pressure to get the punishment redacted. If the city, county or state is wrong, then they put pressure to give the officials responsible the boot.

But when the city, county or state picks on a branch of the armed services and its members in particular. And essentially label them murderers, and then give preferential treatment to a group that would do the same, there are going to be repercussions for the city those officials represent.

If Ms. Joi wishes for there to be no repercussion to the city, then she needs to find some support for them. Unfortunately for her mindset, which is about to hit the wall of reality at a velocity that is currently increasing by the minute, she is going to find that there isn’t much support for people, or cities, that label American soldiers, Marines, seamen or airmen, murderers.

I’d love to see the brainsplat when she finally arrives at this fact.

Let’s just hope that Code Pink doesn’t become the next North American Animal Liberation. The formerly “peaceful animal rights activists” recently firebombed a UCLA professors home. I saw this story earlier this week, but they finally got around to issuing a release taking credit for attempting to murder Edythe D. London and her family by burning their house down around them.

In other “Stupid Leftist Tricks” news, there is a Cripple Fight* currently taking place in the leftosphere.

If you have absolutely nothing else to do this weekend and are craving non-cerebral entertainment, get a load of the flame war going on between the moonbats of the dKos Animal Farm and Petting Zoo and the tinfoil-hatters of FireDogLake.

Subject: Is Obama a crooked politician?

*I’m justifying the call of “cripple-fight” due to their collective mental capacities, seeing as how the FDL folks aren’t really questioning his crookedness, they’re just pointing out weak spots in his record, which the Kos-tards are labeling “borderline slanderous”.

Watch and wait for the “R” word to come out!

Its goin’ down

As I write this it is rolling over to ten o’clock, and in Olympia, WA my elected representatives are debating as to whether Concealed Pistol License holders such as myself will be allowed to carry concealed on college and university campuses. As I wrote about yesterday, I have updated that post with my letter sent off to the members of the committee hearing the bills in question.

One other that was sent to me is House Bill 3095 which takes away a person’s right to trail by jury if their mental health comes into question.

The Washington State House Judiciary Committee cast its votes today to strip Washington gun owners of the right to a trial by jury. Since at least 1959, Washington citizens have had the right to a jury trial with a standard of “clear, cogent, and convincing evidence” before losing their right to bear arms due to being involuntarily committed for an alleged mental health illness.

House Bill 3095, sponsored by Committee Chairwoman Rep. Pat Lantz (D-26), effectively removes these protections by stripping citizens of their right to bear arms, perhaps permanently, after being involuntarily committed for a mere 14 days. In these “probable cause” hearings there is no jury, no elected judge, and the standard of guilt is a mere preponderance of the evidence.

“Setting aside the question of whether or not people should lose their right to bear arms after being involuntarily committed, it is inexcusable to deprive Washingtonians of the fundamental right to a jury trial and a reasonable standard of guilt,” noted CCRKBA Executive Director Mark A. Taff. “What other fundamental rights are our legislators willing to remove without the benefit of a jury trial?”

Taff noted that alleged armed robbers and child molesters have a fundamental right to a unanimous verdict by a jury of their peers with the highest possible standard, “beyond a reasonable doubt”. Even in civil cases, the Washington Constitution dictates that “right of trial by jury shall remain inviolate.”

“We are continuing to work with the legislature to amend this unconstitutional bill to protect two of the most highly regarded rights of Washingtonians: the right to bear arms and the right to a jury,” Taff stated. “While some committee members have made a terrible error by voting to strip gun owners of the right to a jury, there is still time for them to correct their error and amend this bill to respect our fundamental civil liberties.”

“All Washingtonians should contact their legislators to remind them we cherish our civil liberties,” Taff urged.

Voting to strip the right to a jury include Representatives Lantz, Goodman, Flannigan, Kirby, Moeller, Pedersen, & Williams. Voting to respect the right to a jury include Representatives Rodne, Warnick, Ahern, and Ross.

Representative Warnick deserves special credit for her staunch support of basic civil liberties. “We hope Rep. Warnick’s example will encourage the legislature to amend this bill to respect the right to a jury trial, so that all legislators can support this bill in good faith,” concluded Taff.

It looks as though it is being sent to the House Appropriations Committee. I’ll be writing up another letter for this one over the weekend.

Involuntary committals and Star Chamber hearings to remove your right to ever touch another firearm. While I never want to see a gun in the hands of those who cannot properly respect their power, this is just not the right way to go about it.

The Soundboard: Where am I at?

More funky political schtuff.

Ooops! Aurora, IL voting goes so wrong, all the election workers may, rightly, lose their jobs

In the wake of numerous reported problems across the city’s polling places Tuesday, Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner sharply criticized the Aurora Election Commission’s performance and called for “broad and swift” changes at the agency.

He even went so far as to suggest doing away with the 74-year-old election authority entirely.

Well, at least they haven’t been accused of blatantly lying to voters.

Yet.

Voters are told pen had “invisible ink”

When it comes to election shenanigans, Chicago has been accused of just about everything.

But invisible ink?

Twenty voters at a Far North Side precinct who found their ink pens not working were told by election judges not to worry.

It’s invisible ink, officials said. The scanner will count it.

But their votes weren’t recorded after all.

“Part of me was thinking it does sound stupid enough to be true,” said Amy Carlton, who had serious doubts but went ahead and voted anyway.

As it turns out, Carlton was one of 20 voters at the precinct who were given the wrong pen to use. They were also then told, apparently by a misinformed judge, that the pens have invisible ink, elections officials said.

And after you’re done voting the pen will turn into a helicopter to take you home.

To Idiot-land!

But at least they were voting on the correct day

Across Virginia, people showed up at polling places Tuesday expecting to vote in presidential primaries that are still a week away.

By Tuesday evening, the State Board of Elections had received about 700 calls, most of them voters demanding to know why their polling places were cosed.

Agency spokeswoman Susan Pollard says that’s several times the normal daily call volume.

Twenty-four states picked presidential nominees in what’s become known as Super Tuesday, but Virginia wasn’t one of them.

Virginia’s Republican and Democratic primaries are Feb. 12, next Tuesday.

I saw a story, I don’t remember where, about a guy in Florida showing up to his polling place to vote this Tuesday.

Dude needs to watch more news and read The Huffington Post less.

Speaking HuffPo, their favored Repub candidate, John McCain-Feingold (R-Panderville) might not do so well here in Washington as it was recently released that he flies around on some European piece of crap Airbus A320.

Real American candidates fly on Boeing aircraft only.

The Wife just swung in to tell me that Romney is dropping out.

RNS Quote of the Day: 02/07/08

And its a twofer!

The Paulster has been running TV ads here in Washington for a couple weeks now. After Pooper Tuesday, you could possibly say that he should have spent his money a little better. Lee at the leftist bastion of the northwest, HorsesAss.Org noticed the results and got witty.

I think the most fascinating thing about the Ron Paul Revolution is that if Paul officially drops out now, half his supporters will be deciding whether to support Obama, while the other half will be deciding whether to assassinate him.Lee

It’s funny (and sad) because it’s true.

———-

Also, I forgetted it, but Hal_10000 at Right Thinking didn’t.

Happy Belated Birthday, Gipper.

Ronald reagan would have been 97 today. Even at 97 and with Alzheimer’s, he’d probably be a better presidential candidate than half the bozos running today.Hal_10000

He might forget every now and then that he already defeated the Soviets, but I’d rather that than McCain purposely neglecting to remember that Man-Caused Global Warming is a hoax and that there is a border between the US and Mexico.

Lo, On Yonder (capital) Hill

What is that I hear?

Could it be the Greek deity Testiclees giving the Senate Repubs their balls back?

The fate of $600-$1,200 rebate checks for more than 100 million Americans is in limbo after Senate Republicans blocked a bid by Democrats to add $44 billion in help for the elderly, disabled veterans, the unemployed and businesses to the House-passed economic aid package.

GOP senators banded together Wednesday to thwart the $205 billion plan, leaving Democrats with a difficult choice either to quickly accept a House bill they have said is inadequate or risk being blamed for delaying a measure designed as a swift shot in the arm for the lagging economy.

Well, its either Testiclees or his cousin Derectumus, the deity who pulls people’s heads out of their asses.

Vindictive? The Democrats?

Never!

OK, maybe just this once

Lieberman’s endorsement of Republican John McCain disqualifies him as a super-delegate to the Democratic National Convention under what is informally known as the Zell Miller rule, according to Democratic State Chairwoman Nancy DiNardo.

Miller, then a Democratic senator from Georgia, not only endorsed Republican George Bush four years ago, but he delivered a vitriolic attack on Democrat John Kerry at the Republican National Convention.

The Democrats responded with a rule disqualifying any Democrat who crosses the aisle from being a super delegate. Lieberman will not be replaced, DiNardo said.

So now, I guess that Lieberman has got a clear calendar for August. Maybe he could stop by the RNS and say some nice things about his buddy McCain. I doubt he could top Zell Miller’s 2004 speech, but I’m not gonna complain to much abouthim stopping by.
