I meant to post this yesterday

Day late and all that…

I’d been hearing Glenn Beck talk to and about Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal all last week in the run-up to Beck’s speech at the NRA Convention.

Beck spent multiple hours, both on his radio and his CNN Headline News channel show talking about the bill Jindal authored in the House before he became Governor that prohibited, on a national level, the confiscation of private firearms from law-abiding citizens during a natural disaster.

HR 5013: To prohibit the confiscation of a firearm during an emergency or major disaster if the possession of such firearm is not prohibited under Federal or State law.

It passed, 322 to 99, with 98 of the Nays being from people with the letter D after their name.

Its fellow in the Senate, S. 2599, also passed well, thanks to Louisiana Senator David Vitter, 84 to 16, with every Nay vote coming from a Democrat.

In his post from yesterday, Uncle opened a post with

First of all, Bobby Jindal for president.

And I have to concur that in four to eight years, after the successful turning around of the State of Louisiana, I would happily support Bobby Jindal for the Executive position. Right now, however, Louisiana needs him rather badly.
Show these links to any gun owning Lib you know. Remind them that reckless military withdrawals, needless capitulation to terrorist sponsoring nation-states, socialized medicine, taxing the rich, and their Global Warming Death Cult can all wait until we fully re-secure the rights we have had stolen from us over the last 80 years.

Some things are more important.

RNS Quote of the Day: 5/19/08

I’ve been seeing this one about over the weekend and felt that it had something in common with the post just below this one, but deserved to be apart from it.

Two substantive political issues are the federal budget deficit and the war in Iraq. Now, if you’re electing Democrats to control government spending, then you’re marrying Angelina Jolie for her brains. This leaves the Democrats with one real issue: Iraq. And so far the best that any Democratic presidential candidate has been able to manage with Iraq is to make what I think of as the high school sex promise: I will pull out in time, honest dear.”

Something New!

To blame on the VRWC

Pelosi gets quiet reaction in Iraq

The arrival of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who came to Baghdad on Saturday with a congressional delegation, set off a now-familiar cycle of reaction in the Iraqi capital. First there was buzz around the city about flight delays from Baghdad International Airport, which goes into lockdown when VIPs land or takeoff. Since no dust storms were grounding flights, anyone traveling could have assumed some American bigwig was heading in. But when local TV reported the visitor was House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, there was a collective shrug of the kind you might expect from Republicans catching a glimpse of her somewhere in McCain country.

Pelosi is something of a nonentity to average Iraqis. If they know who she is at all, she is generally seen as an antiwar caricature figure, someone whose views on U.S. troop withdrawals are widely considered unrealistic. Pelosi has said she wants to see most U.S. troops withdrawn from Iraq by the end of the 2008, a time frame virtually no Iraqi political leader sees as feasible. Not even Mahdi Army militia leader Moqtada al-Sadr, the fiercest advocate of a U.S. withdrawal on the scene, has called for such a rapid withdrawal of U.S. forces. Rather, Sadr contends that the Americans should simply announce a reasonable timetable for the departure of U.S. forces.

The lack of popularity of Pelosi’s views was evident in the fact that her first day on the ground Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki did not make an effort to see her. Maliki is currently in the northern city of Mosul overseeing a crackdown on insurgent networks there. But the city has been largely quiet in recent days, and there was no obvious pressing reason for the prime minister to skip Pelosi’s arrival.

Other than the fact that she would doom him and his country to death and/or servitude by Iran.

I’m still standing by my prediction in the comments here. Which, if I am correct, will be something to record on the DVR.

Don’t blink or you’ll have missed it

No, I’m not talking about some podunk burg that I visited over the weekend. I speak of the “recession” that the media has been declaring “looming” for, oh, about three years now.

A funny thing happened to the economy on its way to recession: It’s taken a detour.

That, at least, is the view of a growing number of economists — including some who not long ago were saying a recession was all but inevitable. They note that stock and credit markets have steadily improved since the Federal Reserve intervened to keep Bear Stearns Cos. from bankruptcy in early March, while a series of economic reports have been stronger than expected.

Economists also cite swift policy responses, including a sharp reduction in interest rates by the Fed — to 2% from 5.25% last September — and the distribution of fiscal-stimulus checks to millions of Americans, as factors possibly easing the downturn.

“A couple months ago it seemed like we were on the abyss,” said Jay Bryson, global economist with Wachovia Corp., referring to the seizing up of credit markets and the collapse of Bear Stearns. “Things have changed….The numbers we’ve seen recently haven’t been as bad as we were led to believe just a few months ago.”

Wachovia now puts the odds of recession at 45%, down from 90% in April, and expects growth in gross domestic product of 0.6% at an annual rate in the first and second quarters of this year, followed by 1.2% growth in the third and fourth quarters. While he doesn’t expect a recession, he says growth will be very weak through next year.

I may have to eat one of my shoes here in the not too distant future if one of these Chicken Little “economic experts” actually makes mention of the fact that even with a record number of people getting foreclosed on (not because they lost their job, but because they were well employed and spent their way to the poor house), and record home and transportation fuel prices (which are still low when compared to the cost of crude oil), and the idiotic, Democrat initiated, governmental policies in regards to making fuel out of food (which, in turn, is killing tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of people around the world), that the Bush/Cheney/Greenspan/Bernake made economy, created by greatly cutting taxes and eliminating swaths of odious regulations, only stubbed its toe on the way to make more people more prosperous than any economy in the last century.

But I’m not holding my breath.

And so it has begun

With our warmer than usual temperatures over the weekend, we have our first official Global Warming Death Cult Member scream “We’re all gonna die!!1!!1” over the weather

After so many years of argument between skeptical conservatives and knowledgeable progressives over the effect that greenhouse gases emitted by human activities are having on our planet’s climate, the question has been settled….by the recent high temperatures we’ve been having.

…

All we have to do is step outside, feel the hot weather firsthand, and observe the rapidly melting snow pack to decisively conclude that global warming is a sure thing.

Yes, little Andrew of the NW Progressive “Institute” has officially declared that he knows nothing of scientific theory and is willing to let his fears guide his decision making process.

It took two days and one broken temperature record for Andrew to conclude that Global Warming is real.
Never mind the months of below average temperatures, numerous record cold temperatures, a record amount of snowfall, and deaths from hypothermia at sea level in Oregon in March, the world has got a fever according to Andrew.

Personally, I think little Andy has a fever and it has cooked at least half of the two braincells he had to begin with.

And if you’re surprised by this

Then that rock you’ve been hiding under must have been comfortable.

Obama draws 75,000 in Portland

Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., drew one of the largest crowds of his campaign so far Sunday, addressing an estimated 75,000 people who had gathered here on the banks of the Willamette River.

“Wow! Wow! Wow!” were his first words as he surveyed the multitude, which included people in kayaks and small pleasure craft on the river on an unseasonably hot day in Oregon.

That the greater Portland Metro area (aka: North Central San Francisco) had this many weak minds to send to the Obamessiah should be of no surprise to anyone who has been paying attention. Especially when one factors in the 4-6 week long run-up to his arrival, giving the hard-left sect plenty of time to organize (and beat down/convert the Greens and Naderites).

UPDATE: And now we get the news of the UN sending a special human rights investigator here to look into their perception of racism in America.

A special U.N. human rights investigator will visit the United States this month to probe racism, an issue that has forced its way into the race to secure the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination.

The United Nations said Doudou Diene would meet federal and local officials, as well as lawmakers and judicial authorities during the May 19-June 6 visit.

“The special rapporteur will…gather first-hand information on issues related to racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance,” a U.N. statement said on Friday.

And when they find out that 97% of blacks are not voting for white candidates, they’ll find a way to blame America for driving them to Obama.

Shouldn’t that be considered an in-kind donation to his campaign? I know that no one on the left would consider it an donation from an international organization. “After all”, they’ll say, “The UN is based in New York City.”

Any delusion to protect the Obamessiah and his ascention.

I wish I was there too.

Squeaky is. (She gets her own post.)

Squeaky, does this mean that when you talk to Joe Huffman you call him “View from North Central Idaho?” Seems like a mouthful. Just sayin.’

And while I wish I was there, I can substitute it with a half day at Cabelas with our good man, Rivrdog.

OK, so that really isnt’ comparable, but give me a break. Ihad to use my vacation to go to Boomershoot and the Rendezvous. Kentucky (and definitely NOT Tennessee) is really just too damn far. I vote for Spokane or Missoula to host next time around.

Only in Seattle

OK, maybe not, but for the last week the weather-guessers have been screaming it was going to 90 some-odd degrees and sunny starting yesterday and continuing through the weekend.

We got to the low 80’s. Each news channel started their news cast with 10-12 minutes of the low-reporter on the totem pole wandering around talking to pasty mo-fo’s at the beach or the park or the Safeway, talking about how hot it was.

You know, we didn’t crack 60 degrees until mid-April. Prior to that, our last 60+ degree day was in first week of October. We didn’t hit 70+ until the weekend of Boomershoot. To find another 70 degree day prior, you had to go back to mid-September.

And this, this is why Seattlites are some of the dumbest bastards to call the U.S. home: It’s 1 o’clock in the morning, I’m getting some lunch and I see a Mustang convertible driving down the street in front of the restaurant with the top down and four very cold dumb bastards inside dressed like Kenny from South Park.

1AM, Parka’d up like Sir Edmund Hillary because it’s 50 degrees out, but damn it, they’ve got the top down on their convertible. Spent the extra $5K for that soft top, and by gawd, they’re gonna keep it down until rain starts to fall.

And they get to vote like sane people do. No wonder this state went for Obama.
