You know it can’t be good
Jacki Schechner, minor co-blogger at Jumpin’ John Aravosis’ ineptly named AmericaBlog, is moving on to other things. She probably sees them as bigger and better, but they’re just simply frightening.
Health Care for America Now, is the name of the organization where she is now the new Director of Communications. They’re basically a lobbying group who will be spending the rest of the year “pushing to guarantee the first order of business for the new President and Congress is quality, affordable health care for all of us.”
Here is the list of organizations on HCAN’s steering committee
ACORN, AFSCME, Americans United for Change, Campaign for America’s Future, Center for American Progress Action Fund, Center for Community Change, MoveOn, NEA, National Women’s Law Center, Planned Parenthood, SEIU, UFCW, and USAction.
I think I just threw up in my mouth a little just typing those in.
But it does eventually get around to its job, as Stefan Sharkansky points out here, Todd McGuire, a bigwig Democrat activist in Jefferson County (think Port Townsend) has finally had felony charges dropped on him for voting on his wife’s ballot while she was out of the country during a February special election in 2007.
I wish I could say that we’re gonna see him do the perp walk, but he has simply been sent a summons, so that option is entirely up to him.
Rumor has it that Mr. BigHopeyChangey will be visiting a NASCAR event.
And we all know that that means what will be next on his “I’m just like you gun and religion clinger types†tour, right?
In 2004, the King County Council passed a new set of land use regulations titled The Critical Areas Ordinance that severely limited what tens of thousands of property owners could do with developing their property.
Basically, if you owned between 1.25 and 5 acres, you had to leave 50% of your property covered in its “natural vegetationâ€. No big yards, no gravel driveways or parking areas, definitely no concrete slabs or structures. It was 35% if you owned more than five acres.
This sent land prices skyrocketing within the county and sent many more people outside of it to buy property.
It was done as blanket protection for streams, creeks and other items the County Council deemed “criticalâ€.
And yesterday, a three judge panel of the Washington State Appellate court unanimously tossed the ordinance out on its ear, stating that the county can only regulate specific areas pertaining to specific developments. No blanket ordinances allowed.
King County Executive, Ron “Tax to the Max†Sims had this to say
“We are still researching what today’s decision means for King County residents and government,” Sims said in the statement. “We will work with our attorneys to carefully review the decision and determine our next steps. One possible unintended consequence to this decision is that some property owners may face higher restrictions than those currently in place.”
There were five individual landowners involved with The Citizen’s Alliance for Property Rights who brought the suit.
I’ve got a fiver that says these folks will have a tough time getting permits.
In the UK where they have a black hole somewhere near Swindon that seems to suck all the reason out of the country
The Government has announced it will review knife sentencing guidelines as police continue to question five people in relation to the murder of 16-year-old Shakilus Townsend.
Two men aged 22 and 18, two teenage boys aged 16 and 17, and a 16-year-old girl are being held at south London police stations in connection with the teenager’s death.
Sentencing guidelines, due to come into force next month, state that knife possession can be punished with a fine in the least serious cases, but Justice Secretary Jack Straw said this would be re-examined.
“It’s not a U-turn,” he said. “We will be talking to other ministers about it and we will make an announcement.”
Meanwhile David Cameron has called on the Government to toughen up on knife crime.
The Conservative Party leader now says anyone found carrying a knife should be jailed.
Last month the Prime Minister said everyone, from the age of 16 upwards, should be prosecuted for carrying a knife, but there was no mention of an automatic prison sentence.
That is not tough enough for Mr Cameron.
“I don’t believe that the Government’s ‘presumption to prosecute’ is enough.
“It doesn’t send a strong enough signal. We need a ‘presumption to prison’.”
And, in an interview with The Sun, he said: “We have to send the strongest possible message that carrying a knife is completely unacceptable in Britain, end of subject.”
He went on: “It is not a minor offence. There is no excuse for carrying a knife when you walk out of your door.”
It sounds to me as though I have plenty of reasons to carry a defensive weapon when I leave my house: All the yobs you can’t keep locked up because your ideas about sentencing high crimes is out of whack. Especially now when you want to make it a felony to carry a utility tool on your person.
And I know that the “conservative†party are basically our Democrats, but even with the release of Heller I haven’t heard something so outrageous escape the Dems mouths as of late (not that they don’t think it).
I am gleefully awaiting the announcement from the Home Office about how all rocks more than two inches in diameter will be collected next Thursday at noon.
Running away is now considered the proper thing for Londoners to do
Boris Johnson urged people to walk away if they see a crime committed rather than risk their own lives.
The London mayor admitted he would tell his own children to “look after themselves” rather than play Good Samaritan to a victim.
Just last year, he called on people to “take a risk” and tackle thugs, saying the chance of being stabbed was “microscopic”.
But Mr Johnson revealed a “very nice ex-jailbird” recently warned him: “If you see a fight in the street, don’t risk it, someone might have a knife.”
He said: “I’m afraid that may sound like a lack of public spirit if someone is being badly attacked.
“But if I was giving advice to my kids and there was a bar brawl it would be to look after themselves.
“Everybody is shocked by the level of violence we are seeing, particularly towards young people, and we must all work as hard as we can to reverse this dreadful trend.”
Oh, so the citizenry is now allowed to arm themselves appropriately then, Boris?
It is also a pity I cannot consider anyone in my household a consumer of Disney Co. products, for I cannot effectively boycott them.
Walt Disney World believes it is exempt from a new state law that allows Florida residents to keep firearms in their vehicles while at work, according to an internal memo obtained by a newspaper.
Under the bill, which took effect Tuesday, businesses cannot prohibit employees or customers from keeping a legally owned gun locked inside their cars, as long as the owner has a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
However, the bill states that property owned or leased by an employer who has a permit required by federal law to manufacture, use, store or move explosives would still be off limits. Disney has a permit for its fireworks shows.
The loophole was lobbied for by a group of lawyers that represented groups and businesses that included Disney, The Orlando Sentinel reports.
Shannon McAleavey, Disney World Vice President of Public Affairs, said in the memo that, with some exceptions, “this law does not apply to Walt Disney World Co. owned and leased properties.”
The Sentinel obtained the memo. A Disney spokesman confirmed it circulated last week.
Disney spokeswoman Zoraya Suarez told The Associated Press that the company maintains a zero-tolerance policy, and said “anyone bringing a gun on property can expect to be subject to discipline.”
A Disney Co. employee has already tested their ban and has suffered the consequences.
Just like the book by John Ford, this Disney Co. idea is a tragedy.
It just isn’t going to be successful
A couple telephoned police in the middle of the night after finding a man in their basement covered head to toe in barbecue sauce.
“He told the officers that it was urban camouflage,” said the homeowner.
This happened in Wisconsin.
The homeowners say they woke up to whistling sounds.
The husband grabbed his shotgun and headed toward the basement where he found the sauced-up intruder.
He held him at gunpoint until police arrived.
The guy told officers he covered himself in barbecue sauce because he wanted to hide from the government.
Using BBQ sauce to hide from the government?
That isn’t going to work at all. Everyone knows how much they love their pork.

Stop re-running Olbermann every other hour every night and give Rosie o’Donnell the time slot directly after his.
Hell, since Olbie is the yang to o’Reilly’s yin, put Garafolo on with her and have an all liberal H&C.
And speaking of annoying, remember “The View?” Do you get it here in Canada? It was a cute, little tea party show with the ladies turned into a women’s prison film. We were tough girls elbowing each other shaving down spoons into shank (?), “Come here, you little bitch.” Remember “Born Innocent,” that Linda Blair movie? Remember the broomstick, Wooh, I know how she felt. It was like one, big, dysfunctional, Irish Catholic family. Do anything except tell the truth.
I guarantee I would watch it every night of the week for the next six months.
I would have to make sure The Wife has completed her Heimlich Maneuver training so I don’t choke on my food from laughing continuously during my dinner hour, but I would watch it.
