I’m out and about, taking care of business, driving around with The Brother last weekend. Feeling a bit grumbly in the tumbly we roll into the local Dairy Queen for some tasty grub.
I speaketh our order into the voodoo box and have something that sounds similar repeated back at me, so I proceed to roll around to the pay/pickup window. It is early and I was probably one of their first three customers of the day. There are only two employees on duty and they are having a lively discussion which is about to involve me.
The lady opens the window and I hear her say to her younger male co-worker “How could you not know who Journey is?”
He shrugs and hands our bags of lunch to her. She turns, tells me the total and as I’m digging around for the change, I ask her “Did he just say he doesn’t know who Journey is?”
She responds in the affirmative and I say “Whoa. I feel old.”
Now, the co-worker isn’t all that young. He’s probably 20-21, and because he looks as though he takes great advantage of the employee discount on the hot fudge sundaes, creating a distinct resemblance to this dude
I’m pegging him as a Spears/Aguilera/Simpson fanatic.
The window lady responds with “At least someone here knows who Journey is.”
My only response was to hit the pause button on my CD deck to release the Tom Scholz tunage for her enjoyment.

Scenic public land has large masses of overgrown plant life that blocks the view.
Town Council makes plans to remove said obstruction.
Most visitors to a popular beauty spot would welcome overgrown bushes being cut back.
But a council had to tread carefully after being told that to some members of the gay community, the dense undergrowth was something to be protected.
Removing it would discriminate against the gay men who use the area for outdoor sex, campaigners claimed.
Visitors to the Downs near Bristol’s spectacular Avon Gorge have complained about the ‘inappropriate sexual activity’, which can be punishable by up to six months in prison.
Despite this, the city council was forced to consult gay rights groups about their concerns over its plan to clear away the bushes to improve the scenery and protect rare wildlife.
Tory councillor Peter Abraham said yesterday: ‘How can it be discriminatory to clear land that might stop what is an illegal practice?

Our tax dollars are currently paying ranchers across the nation to not use large swaths of their land to graze their cattle on. It is called the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) and we spent upwards of $80 million dollars to rnachers in Washington state alone in 2007 so that they wouldn’t graze on 1.5 million acres.
That is a little over $53 per acres not used.
Unfortunately for the ranchers, this last winter was harsh, and the price paid for crops such as wheat and corn (for biofuels, natch) means that fewer farmers grew hay for the cattle. Because of these things, the cost of a ton of hay has doubled over the last couple years to $200 and up, depending on the region.
So, the USDA devised the Critical Feed Use Program, which would allow ranchers to graze again on some of the CRP covered lands.
This, of course, made the National Wildlife Federation get frowny faces, and six of their state chapters filed suit claiming that the government needs to do an environmental impact study before this can go forward with the CFU program.
And yesterday a legal expert, most commonly called a “judge”, who is not a scientist, agreed with them.
They are killing a program which means reasonably priced beef for the world to make sure the Sage Grouse has a pristine habitat. They get to put land out of use by people, cut down on beef consumption and put a drag on the capitalistic ways of flyover country. Win, win, win, for them.
You and I will be paying approximately 25% higher prices for beef over the next year and another family ranch gets to look bankruptcy in the eye.

This report about Mesa, AZ police officers arresting people with a 0.0 blood alcohol level for DUI.
A motorcycle cop spotted the truck as Heather drove through the intersection of Baseline Road and Mesa Drive. Not familiar with the truck, she’d failed to flip on her lights. Soon the cop was flipping on his — and they were flashing.
Heather was ordered out of the vehicle and almost immediately handcuffed. She was taken to the Mesa Police Department and charged with both driving under the influence and driving with a blood alcohol content over the legal limit. The truck was searched, then impounded.
Party’s over.
Heather Squires was no different from any of the thousands of people who’ve been charged with DUI this year in Arizona. They drank, they got busted, and now — thanks to the toughest DUI laws in the nation — they can expect jail time, big fines, and an ignition interlock.
Except for one thing.
Heather Squires’ blood alcohol content that night was 0.00. The records prove, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that she was an exemplary designated driver.
She hadn’t had a drop to drink.

According to several police officers who wish to remain anonymous, it has become an unwritten policy of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office to not report illegal aliens to the U.S. Border Patrol when they are taken into custody.
On April 27th of this year, Juan Casarubia-Rendon, age 24, was stopped by Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputies for numerous traffic violations. He was found to be highly intoxicated, with a blood alcohol level of .32%, four times the State threshold for vehicle operation. Juan had no license and no vehicle insurance, something that would have normally called for an arraignment for any other driver.
As is the policy with most area police agencies, the U. S. Border Patrol would have been notified, appeared and placed a “detainer†on Casarubia-Rendon. As soon as he would have been released from jail, or his obligations for his crime under the law, the U.S. Border Patrol would have taken custody of Juan and the process of giving him his legal options, including, but not limited to deportation back to Mexico.
According to police sources, bowing to pressures from area land owners, Mexican migrant workers are being cut breaks by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

The bigotry aimed at the South never ceases to amaze me. Indeed, it is astounding to me how the left tells us we need to understand the nuance of, say, the Jihadi mind in all of its shades of gray, but when it comes to the voting habits of law-abiding white North Carolinians all you need to know is that if a white hand pulls a lever for a Republican politician, that hand must be attached to a racist, and that racism guided the hand to vote for a Republican.
Goldberg makes it quite clear that he is not defending every single one of Helms’ actions or ideas. And neither am I.
Helms’ time was before my own. I do not know everything the guy did or stood for, which is why I am not fit to lay judgment upon him or to speak ill of him upon his death.
As far as I can tell, he wasn’t a mass murdering dictator, or a serial killer, so I find the pure vitriol spoken by his political opposites disgusting.
But what is even more disgusting is that when neither Goldberg or I do not join in their hateful chorus, and accept their opinion of the man without reservation, we are labeled homophobes and/or racists.
And so it continues with bits of fluff such as this from Olivia Zaleski at the HuffPo.
“Environmental Racism†is the newest tagline for Tobacco Road: She worries about the fact that the poor have to live in the less expensive sections of cities, sections that are near the freeways and/or the industrial zoned areas.
Now, a thinking person would understand that their location is why these areas are less expensive to live in. But being a good, guilt ridden, rich liberal, she has decided that the best way to help these folks is to found Communities for a Better Environment to bring “Environmental Justice†to them.
There is lots of flash and pomp, but nowhere does she explain just how the group is going to fix this problem. They can’t shut down the roads or the businesses, though I’m sure they’d like to, and they don’t seem to have enough money to move the people out of there.
Which is proof that this is just some superficial feel good effort that gives her the opportunity to call anyone who doesn’t feel as strongly about it as she does a racist and blame capitalism for the world’s ills.
I believe that it is a good thing when someone finds their true calling in life. However, I predict that this can only be said to be a “calling” because of all the name-calling.

You pay all these taxes but you don’t want anything in return for it. You don’t want free health care. You don’t want time off of work. You don’t want anything. You’re not selfish enough.
You get mad when someone is taking welfare and sitting on their ass. What have you got against sitting on your ass? The whole point behind having a government and paying taxes is to have more time to sit on your ass. That’s what technology is for. You Americans work longer than anyone, pay all these taxes, make all these robots, and then not only don’t you sit on your ass, but you get mad when anyone else does. You’re fucking crazy.

The only reason for having a government at all can be covered in two words: Law and Order.
Someone has to be given the responsibility to deal with passage and enforcement of commonly agreed upon societal rules, as well as the internment of those who break them.
Likewise, disputes between individuals need an unbiased arbitrator.
Lastly, someone needs to maintain a group for the defense of the society from forces that would seek to destroy it.
And there are taxes that need to be collected to be paid for those things.
Anything more, licensing, infrastructure, etcetera, need to be agreed upon by the society through democratic methods.
And that is all.
I don’t rely upon my government to give me more time off from work or to pay for my doctor. I work so that I can earn the money for the doctor and my employer rewards me for being a good employee by giving me additional monetary reimbursement in the form of paid vacation days.
If I wasn’t paying for someone else’s heath care, I’m sure my taxes would go down. Likewise, if even half of the items not mentioned in the Constitution we’re discontinued, my taxes would drop by a significant amount.
And if they were handed off to a private entity, they’d probably get done more quickly and for less money.
What kind of drugs do these people smoke/sniff/inject to make them this illiterate as to the proper role of government?
