Senior FCC staff working for acting Federal Communications Commissioner Michael Copps held meetings last week with policy and legislative advisers to House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman to discuss ways the committee can create openings for the FCC to put in place a form of the “Fairness Doctrine” without actually calling it such.
Waxman is also interested, say sources, in looking at how the Internet is being used for content and free speech purposes. “It’s all about diversity in media,” says a House Energy staffer, familiar with the meetings. “Does one radio station or one station group control four of the five most powerful outlets in one community? Do four stations in one region carry Rush Limbaugh, and nothing else during the same time slot? Does one heavily trafficked Internet site present one side of an issue and not link to sites that present alternative views? These are some of the questions the chairman is thinking about right now, and we are going to have an FCC that will finally have the people in place to answer them.”

In fact, most of them spend a good deal of time belittling any worries from folks on the right about the Democrat run government imposing it.
I predict a changing of their tune in short order if this gets moving in any way. But by then, it’ll be too late.
Washington State is looking at a deficit in the billions of dollars that is right up there with California when compared per capita.

Novelty lighters bill passes out of committee
Two bills that would make the sale or distribution of novelty lighters illegal have both passed out of committee.
Novelty lighters are those that have flashing lights, musical sounds, and toy-like designs. The concern is that the lighters appeal to children, who might accidentally start a fire with them.
This is considered a bi-partisan bill because out of the 15 sponsors in the House, one of them has an (R) after his name. No Senate R’s bothered with this.
If you’re a Washington citizen, ask your friends and co-workers what the most pressing issue is in their lives. When they don’t answer “Musical Lighters”, take a moment and let them know just how well the Democrat super-majorities in the State House and Senate are working out for them.
Especially if you work for one of the companies on page#4 of this pdf document. Take a good read of this list as these are the companies that the state is willing to admit will most likely lose jobs if the Democrat’s Cap & Trade eco-madness bill passes.
And if, after all this new info, they get the urge to call their elected representatives, and if any of said representatives is a member of the state Democrat Party, remind them to ask if they’ve bothered to help locate the thief who stole the Republican’s bronze elephant during the Governor’s Inaugural Ball.

It seems we had ourselves a dandy little protest in downtown Seattle yesterday.
Within 36 hours nearly Liberty Belle was able to find nearly 100 people unhappy enough about the Stimupalozza/Porkulus package to venture into the solidly leftist uptown Seattle commercial district and have a protest.
Michelle Malkin has a round up here of all the participating sites. But I want you to make sure and watch this piece of video from local CBS affiliate, KIRO that she found.
Watch the passionate, yet peaceful, citizenry of center-right Seattle as they speak their minds without damaging other people’s property or getting so violent the police have to step in, or even shouting obscenities.
Watch at around the 2:00 mark for the counter protester making the Nazi salute, in an attempt to provoke the peaceful yet passionate protest participants into a fight.
The Good: In coordination with the new contract (the nine-figure one, the one that is keeping me away from Boomershoot), my employer and the Muni have agreed on a dispatch program. This program only works in Firefox. Our IT guy came in and loaded up said browser on all the office PCs last night. I now get to use a more civilized browser and loaded up all of my favorites into Firefox and got on with my job.
The Bad: Monday night is when our productivity numbers from the previous week get uploaded into the corporate server, via the corporate intraweb, for National to review. This is one of the first things I do when I log in for the evening on Mondays (mostly to get it out of the way).
The Ugly: Our corporate intraweb does not function in Firefox. This was only discovered after I spent 30 minutes trying to stuff a square peg into a round hole and barking words my mother would not approve of to deduce that maybe I should try Explorer.
