I just think it’s strange how we never saw a video hosted and publicized by NPR during the Bush years on “How to speak Smelly Hippie.”
I have another word to describe how I feel about having been forced to pay to host and publicize the video. It rhymes with “shucked”.

President Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize not for what he had achieved in world peace, but for what he had been trying to achieve, with “extraordinary efforts,” as the Norwegian Nobel Committee stated, in reducing the world’s nuclear arms, easing American tension with Muslim nations, etc. Former President Jimmy Carter, another Nobel Peace Prize laureate, said Obama was awarded for his vision and commitment to peace and harmony in international relations.

That seems to be the new buzzword to replace the phrase “Peace at any cost.”
Even certain high ranking members of the hardcore leftosphere say he hasn’t earned the Nobel. My only guess is that Wendy Liu must be getting her kool-aid intravenously.

Since there is little to no money in Astronomy without large amounts of brown-nosing university types, I’m of the opinion that my best way to put my name on Mars might be through being on the team which updates the maps of it. After all, it is the cartographers who get to write the names.
Our resident murderer of constables has been officially charged
“This case is unique in that Monfort deliberately planned to confront police and kill as many officers as he could,” King County prosecutor Dan Satterberg said. “He was planning to make a final armed stand should he be discovered.”
Satterberg charged Monfort, 41, with aggravated first-degree murder in the death of Officer Timothy Brenton as Brenton sat in his cruiser discussing a traffic stop with a trainee named Britt Sweeney, who was grazed by a bullet.
The crime is punishable by life without release or execution. Satterberg has 30 days from Monfort’s arraignment to decide whether to seek the death penalty, but such decisions are typically delayed to give defense attorneys more time to prepare.
Monfort was charged with one count of arson and three counts of attempted first-degree murder. The latter charges stem from the wounding of Sweeney, an alleged attempt to kill officers during the arson nine days earlier, and attempts to shoot police who approached him outside his apartment in suburban Tukwila last week.
Monfort ran from the sergeant and two other homicide detectives, then produced a handgun, which clicked but didn’t fire when he pulled the trigger, Satterberg said. The gun was loaded, but Monfort had neglected to put a round in the chamber, Satterberg said.
“This oversight saved the life of the police officer, who was only a few feet away,” he said.

His defense should prove quite interesting. It seems as though his plan was to not live through his capture.
Inside Monfort’s apartment, police said they found a terrifying arsenal: three rifles, including the one used to kill Brenton, and a pistol-grip shotgun, as well as several bombs consisting of propane bottles wrapped with duct tape, nails protruding. Some had very short fuses, indicating Monfort could light them and throw them at police, and another had a fuse sitting on the heating element of his kitchen stove, authorities said.
Stacks of automobile tires in the apartment could have provided a bunker in a shootout.
One does have to wonder exactly what kind of neighbors Monfort if they didn’t report him to property management after seeing him haul up enough tires to build barricades. I know the neighborhood the complex he lived in, and it is on the “rougher” side of homely, and also that he had a reputaiton as an “artist”, but really?

That most of Congress is no better than your average criminal.
A Milwaukee Army reservist’s military identification earned him some street cred Tuesday, when he says four men who mugged him at gunpoint returned his belongings and thanked him for his service after finding the ID.
The 21-year-old University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student said he was walking home from work about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday when he was pulled into an alley and told to lay face down and with a gun to his neck. Four men took his wallet, $16, keys, his cell phone and even a PowerBar wrapper from his pants pockets, he said.
But the hostile tone quickly changed when one of the robbers, whom the reservist presumed was the leader, saw an Army ID in the wallet. The robber told the others to return the items and they put most of his belongings on the ground next to him, including the wrapper, the reservist said.
“The guy continued to say throughout the situation that he respects what I do and at one point he actually thanked me and he actually apologized,” said the reservist, who asked not to be identified Tuesday because the robbers still had his keys.
Congress just laughs at Military ID. They figuratively kick the buy while he’s down, as is evidenced by this piece by Mike Royko.
So bad that the Democrats stopped eleven amendments that would have mandated they take part in the “public option”.
Critics of the health care bill said they offered the 11 amendments – including some that would require the president, vice president, and Supreme Court justices to give up their Federal Employees Health Benefit Program (FEHBP) to enroll in the ‘public option’ or Medicaid – to showcase the problems with the massive legislation.
“If Congress forces our constituents into a public option plan over time, then members of Congress should be expected to do the same,†Rep. Howard McKeon (R-Calif.) told CNSNews.com.
But don’t worry, they kept in the one that mandates you and I sign up for it.
And it is not as though they don’t have proof that the system they’re building will fail. Massachusetts already failing state mandated system is a big red warning beacon that they’re ignoring.
After Hurricane Andrew hit Florida in 1992 some Floridians were having difficulty purchasing homeowners’ insurance. (The reason: rates are regulated, and at the regulated rates some properties are too great a risk.) So, the state government formed Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, which is owned and operated by the State of Florida.
As originally envisioned, Citizens would charge rates above those charged by private insurers, to make Citizens the insurer of last resort. Nevertheless, Citizens found plenty of customers.
After two bad hurricane seasons in 2004 and 2005 property insurance rates in Florida rose, and in his campaign for the office, current Governor Charlie Crist promised voters that if elected he would see that their property insurance bills “dropped like a rock.â€
One tactic he used was to change Citizens’ rate structure so it was competitive with private insurers. His idea, like President Obama’s idea with health insurance, is that with a public option, private insurers would have to keep their rates in line or risk losing customers to the government insurer.
That’s what’s happened in Florida. Today about 30% of homeowners’ policies are written by Citizens, which is the largest property insurer in the state. It’s about to get bigger too. The largest private insurer, State Farm, had a rate request rejected last year, and now is pulling out of the state altogether (for property insurance; they’ll still insure your car). As the largest private insurer pulls out over a three-year period (that period negotiated with the state), Citizens will get an even larger share of Florida’s property insurance.
Everybody in Florida knows Citizens is a fiscal time bomb. Already, every Florida insurance policy (on homes, boats, cars, etc.) pays a surcharge that goes to Citizens, but Citizens still doesn’t have sufficient reserves to weather a major hurricane. When one comes, Florida taxpayers will be on the hook for the bill.
And Crist will bleat to the Fed about how bad this is for his state and how he needs a bailout. So, in reality, the US Taxpayer will probably be the ones stuck with the bill.
Thank you, Jeb Bush, for signing this turd into law whilst you were Governor.
