Today, the day before the Republicans are set to meet with the President, Harry Reid is threatening to use “reconciliation” on the health care bill. Breitbart.tv has a compilation video up from the 2005 protests of the Republican threat to use the Nuclear Option for judicial nominees.
I agreed with the Democrats and many others then (I hate to admit) that Republicans were reaching too far. And, the 2006 election, in part, proved it. But, you would think that Democrats would have learned from the GOP mistake. Nevertheless, what they said in the clip is and always will be true: then Senate was created to be different from the House.
One of my favorite blogs, WhoisJohnGalt has this to say about Majority Rule:
People with an IQ over 150 are a small minority, but I’m far more interested in their ideas. Business owners are a small minority, but they’re still the ones we depend on for jobs, and the ones with the best incentives for keeping their own business afloat.
The United States was (were, really) never intended to be a democracy. Yes, the founders recognized the significance of a majority — that’s why they created the House of Representatives. But it’s a complete misunderstanding of our government to believe that the Senate should therefore be ruled by a majority.
Read the whole post. It reminds me of the many arguments I had in UW PoliSci classes where I was always the vocal minority in the room. My favorite way to end most of these arguments was to ask my foe, “Have you ever actually read the Constitution?” That would usually shut them up.

Glen Beck can be a twit. I sometimes listen to him on my way home in the mornings. He has called himself a clown and when he goes into clown-mode is when I tire of him quickly.
However, Mark Levin is a much larger twit than Beck. Mostly because he looks to have turned into a party hack who doesn’t mind re-electing RINOs so long as it means his preferred party stays in power.
At CPAC, Beck went off on progressive members of both parties.
This annoyed Levin. He though that Beck should have held back on talking abotu RINOs and focused only on Democrats.
Beck spent precious little time aiming fire at Obama-Pelosi-Reid in his speech, and it is they who are destroying our country.
No, Mr. Levin, the people destroying our country are those who fuck up so badly during their period of governance that the people un-elect them from holding a majority. And then they go and “compromise” with the new majority party on horrible legislation.
I realize that you need to slow down a car before you can turn it around, but the people you seem to want Beck and myself to ignore have no interest in turning the wheel, only in arriving at the edge of the river bank a little later.
Beck was speaking at CPAC. In case you forgot, Mr. Levin, the “C” stands for “Conservative”. The Republicans you wish Beck would back off of are not “Conservatives”. Or if they are, they’re the Christian Socialist kind of “Conservative”. The kind who think that humans walked with the dinosaurs, that Teh Gehys are bringing the nation to ruin and that pRon should be illegal for adults to buy/sell/own, but it is OK to give taxpayer money to tax exempt churches to distribute as they see fit in the hopes that the slight of hand will fool people.
The GOP is becoming more conservative thanks to the grass-roots movement and a political uprising across the country, which has even reached into New Jersey and Massachusetts.
Wrong. They are not. Brown, as we all well knew, was a New England Republican. But we needed that 41st vote, so we supported him. That is not the GOP getting more “conservative”. in fact, it is just the opposite.
Also, the GOP is fighting tooth and nail behind the scenes to not become more fiscally conservative. They’re trying ignore actual fiscal conservatives entering races (Rubio in FL) or flat out telling fiscal conservatives “Thanks, but no thanks.”
Mr. Levin, you can take your false outrage and put it where the sun don’t shine (which is also where you pulled these lame talking points out of) and have a nice day.
Then there is a good chance you live in the WA-47 Legislative District.
And that means that Rep. Geoff Simpson belongs to you.
And then he compared you to the guy who flew the plane into the IRS building.
And now it is time for you to tell him what you think about it.
If they didn’t actually want them to come true.
For our non-Washingtonian readers, we have a serial filer of Citizen’s Initiatives named Tim Eyman. If it’s getting taxed, he’s filing an initiative to cut said tax.
I, of course, vote for each of his initiatives when they make it to the ballot, even though he’s a media whore who couldn’t market hand warmers to Eskimos. In fact, those two reasons alone are the single biggest reason that any of his initiatives fail. Because he gets the ball in the red zone and then promptly wanders off to take a piss on the 50yd line, letting the game clock run out.
But, such as it is, he’s still done a load of good for the state. So much so that the state legislature is doing it’s best to repeal each and every one of his initiatives passed by the people.
But that isn’t enough for the progressives at the Seattle Weekly.
In the last month, over $1.3 million has been donated to the No on 1033 campaign, the opposition group meant to reverse the misinformation being peddled by professional fuck-up Tim Eyman and his latest, devastating initiative. Of that, over half has come from big unions: teachers, government workers and service employees, with a handful of smaller groups — firefighters, iron workers and electricians — adding to the kitty. That cash has been used to air TV ads. And considering No on 1033 still has $2 million left in the pot, a lot more good publicity is yet to come.
But despite the good feelings that come from organized labor spending money to protect its own, we can’t help but feel nostalgic for days long gone. Days when millions in campaign money wouldn’t be necessary to stop a minor irritant like Eyman. When, instead, a simple knock on the door and well-timed threat would be enough to solve any disagreement. Don’t get us wrong. Democracy is great. But doesn’t a situation like 1033, where we’re literally stealing money from old people and kids, call for something more direct? Like a kneecapping?
Yes, for Caleb Hannan at The Weakly, if you think that government over-taxes so that it can overspend and essentially use tax dollars to buy votes, then you deserve to have union thugs come to your home and make it so that you can never walk again.
But remember, it is the folks on the right who are the violent ones.

Williams said Lamelas made an incision under his arm that didn’t require any bone breakage.
“I wanted to get in, get out fast, get back to work in a short period of time,” the premier said.
Williams said he didn’t announce his departure south of the border because he didn’t want to create “a media gong show,” but added that criticism would’ve followed him had he chose to have surgery in Canada.
“I would’ve been criticized if I had stayed in Canada and had been perceived as jumping a line or a wait list. … I accept that. That’s public life,” he said.
Good for him for making a tough decision and caring for his health above the political flack he was bound to take. It is too bad that all Canadians are not fortunate enough to have access to the best health care on Earth.
