Empty Suit Presents Meaningless Proposal

The Won released his health care proposal.

It was heralded by the left and the media (but I repeat myself) as a wondrous item and very likely pulled from directly a unicorn’s bung.

However, there is a problem…..

The CBO can’t figure it out.

This morning the Obama Administration released a description of its health care proposal, and CBO has already received several requests to provide a cost estimate for that proposal. We had not previously received the proposal, and we have just begun the process of reviewing it—a process that will take some time, given the complexity of the issues involved. Although the proposal reflects many elements that were included in the health care bills passed by the House and the Senate last year, it modifies many of those elements and also includes new ones. Moreover, preparing a cost estimate requires very detailed specifications of numerous provisions, and the materials that were released this morning do not provide sufficient detail on all of the provisions. Therefore, CBO cannot provide a cost estimate for the proposal without additional detail, and, even if such detail were provided, analyzing the proposal would be a time-consuming process that could not be completed this week.

This can only mean one thing: It’s expensive to those who work.

RNS Quote of the Day: 02/23/10

The Atlanta Progressive News recently fired a long-time staff writer, Jonathan Springston, over, shall we say “editorial differences”.

In the end, we had to make a very difficult decision to move forward as a publication without Jonathan Springston. Last Wednesday, we informed him it seemed more appropriate if he found work with another publication or started his own publication.

At a very fundamental, core level, Springston did not share our vision for a news publication with a progressive perspective. He held on to the notion that there was an objective reality that could be reported objectively, despite the fact that that was not our editorial policy at Atlanta Progressive News. It just wasn’t the right fit.

We have already begun drafting a more programmatic statement on our editorial position regarding objectivity, inter-subjectivity, and news.

Matthew Cardinale – Editor: Atlanta Progressive News

They rejected his reality and will publish one of their own.

A beautiful sight!

K shoots AR.jpeg

Phil told me that long ago there were babes on this blog.  I wanted to include one of my own.

This is my wife, shooting my CMMG AR-15 today at the range.  I finally convinced her to “try” firing my scary black rifle.

Once she got over her fear of the recoil, she fired off ten or so pretty good shots.  So, I gave her the challenge of hitting the four corners.  She had no problems with that.  Then I said, “Okay, my turn.”  To my surprise, she looked at me and said, “I”m not done yet.”

I was initially shocked, but then very proud and happy that she was actually enjoying this!  I took a few steps back and snapped this picture with a huge smile on my face.

That beauty sitting on top is the Burris XTR-14.  I highly recommend it.

And just for the hell of it, two more of my favorite “babes with guns” pictures.

Ebert

Long ago I bought the thick paperbacks collecting Roger Ebert’s movie reviews, and they’re some of my most cherished possessions. The man won a Pulitzer for a reason: he could (and can) write better than most human beings. His reviews are almost all nearly perfect examples of the very-short-essay format, and the writing, of course, sparkles. (The exception is his review of nearly any Star Trek movie; he is not a trekkie/trekker, and if you are, his reviews of those films will make you tear out your hair in frustration.) If you want the acme of books to keep by the toilet or the tub, any of the older collections of his movie reviews from the eighties and nineties are contenders for that title.

His left-wing politics have become very visible in his writing (especially his online journal) since cancer began destroying him, but I don’t hold that against him, wacky as his views may be on some topics. This Esquire article on Ebert and his life now is worth reading.
