What a novel idea

House Republicans introduced a bill earlier this week that would require the Transportation Security Administration to accept certain gun carry permits as valid forms of identification.

The Nondiscriminatory Transportation Screening Act, introduced by Reps. Diane Black (R., Tenn.) and Bill Flores (R., Texas), would reverse TSA policy regarding the permits.

TSA policy currently excludes gun permits as an acceptable form of ID.

The guide does not give a reason for the ban on gun permits. Most states list the identifying information required by the TSA on the gun carry permits issued. Some states, such as Tennessee, also include photos on the permits they issue and require permit holders submit their fingerprints to state police.

Rep. Black told the Washington Free Beacon she was inspired to create the Nondiscriminatory Transportation Screening Act after her own gun carry permit was rejected by the TSA as she tried to board a plane to Washington, D.C.

Washington’s permit does not have a photo on it, but maybe that could change.

The Washington CPL is certainly harder to get that any other form of photo ID in the state. In fact, Washington residents have all been informed that by 2017 we will have to have an “enhanced drivers license” in order to board a plane because our long string of Democratic Party governors have been basically handing state photo ID’s to anyone who can drag themselves into a DMV.

Iowa’s Rep. Steve King (R) compared Syrian refugees to grapes the other day

“My wife said this morning, ‘If you had 100 grapes and you knew that two of them were fatally poisonous, would you sit there and eat the grapes until one of them killed you? Or would you decide, I’m not going to take that bunch of grapes at all?’ That’s what we’re dealing with here with the Syrian refugees.”

Causing the leftosphere to lose its collective shit

I’ll take King at his word that it was his wife saying this. Mostly because it is more likely she has been beaten over the head with the very similar and very popular feminist trope about “men” and M&M’s (that “if you had a bowl of M&M’s and were told that 10 of them were poison, would you eat them anyway?”).

So, it is OK for women in comfortable shoes who spend $0 per year on shaving cream and razors to disparage an entire gender, but if someone with an (R) after their name uses the same idea to speak against possible taxpayer funded terrorist infiltration, it is over the line.

Remember that the left not only wants to redistribute your money, they want to redistribute you standards so that they can have two.

Our Domesticated Brains

Human brains have been shrinking for a long time now. While there are the (uplifting) efficiency and (depressing) Idiocracy explanations, each of which have their own merits, domesticated shrinkage is compelling:

Time scales can be funny where evolution and culture intertwine. Arguably we’re seeing an explosion of evolutionary activity simply due to the population explosion. Barbara Tuchman detailed the brutality of 14th-century European popular amusements in A Distant Mirror; as late as 1730 Paris massacring cats was hilarious. Do we recoil at barbarity due to enlightenment or because we’re tame?

…Then again, reproducing the acts in this video as live entertainment would have been right at home in Tuchman’s 14th century. Maybe the past isn’t such a different country after all ’cause that video’s effin’ hilarious.

How’s that Green Agenda working for you Brits?

British grid operator National Grid made history this week when it was forced to ask some of its largest electricity consumers to decrease their usage to help cope with a spate of power outages.

This is the sort of problem that will naturally arise in any country that tries to rush through a transition towards cleaner, greener energy sources. In the case of the UK, the shuttering of coal-fired power plants, a dirty but consistent source of baseload power, has decreased the country’s generating capacity enough that unforeseen outages can have wide-reaching, destabilizing effects on the grid.

Guess who has a year or so left in office and wants you to enjoy this style of happiness.

An Interesting development

As others have observed, there is a good chance that real civil unrest against the invasion of military aged men from Syria will break out in the open in Germany first.

With the toxic cocktail that the Merkel led government has created, not a bad bet.

In any event, what I thought was just a bad color exposure on the Norwegian flag for some reason flying in German marches early on in the year, in this article from the DailyMailUK ostensibly about France’s Le Pen, they cover a bit about the latest marches in Dresden from the growing German protest party PEGIDA (Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the Occident), in German (Patriotische Europäer gegen die Islamisierung des Abendlandes).

Nordic cross in German colors … wait … I know that flag … and then it hit me.

That is the flag of two of my heroes; Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Colonel Claus Philipp Maria Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg.

That is the Josef Wirmer flag. The flag of the German resistance in 1944.
