A bit ‘o redecoratin’

You may have noticed a couple of things have changed around these parts as of late.

I recently (and not so recently) got a couple of e-mails and such asking about font color and size and page size and the like. I forwarded them off to the Doc who used some of his rare free time to put things in place.

So, what do you think?

Good, bad, ugly?

Too big, too small?

Let us know. These changes are proof that your feedback is well regarded. And while we know that we can’t please everyone, we’d like to try to keep as many folks coming by as is possible.

Kewl

That is the only word to describe this.

eriks700.JPG

Senor Mollbot paid off and picked up his Remington 700 PSS this weekend!

And don’t he look like a proud papa!

He should have his post on it up at What Hath I Wrought? shortly. Stop on by and give him some congratulations and learn what he named her!

Like the gun I am building, this will be Mollbot’s primary rifle for Boomershoot, coming up this May 1st.

You may have noticed that, along with the resquaring of the corners of RNS over the weekend, the Nukevet has put up a Boomershoot banner in the upper right hand corner.

If you do not know of the Boomershoot, you should click on the banner and take a look around. The host of the Boomershoot, Joe Huffman, has offered a deal to those of us with blogs and websites if we send over 100 people his way.

If you would feel so inclined to help me out in this regard, I would greatly appreciate it. He is tracking IP #’s, so no cheating please. I’m a fair and square guy.

While I hate to give away the secret of what is on the other side of the banner, I’ll try to sum it up,

‘Long distance precision rifle shooting combined with impact sensitive explosives! What else could a guy ask for?’

For those interested in possibly attending, I’d like to put up a couple of suggestions that may sway your decision to going.

While Joe has set up links on the Boomershoot site for what you need to bring and local lodging, among other things, I am also willing to offer my help in anyway I can. I am not that far away from his location and I have been to Orofino, ID and the surrounding areas before.

I can possibly help with airports and lodging and that sort of thing.

So read up, folks. The more you read, the more you’ll want to go.

UPDATE: Joe has posted about the Boomershoot on his blog, The View from North Central Idaho. He is gathering more and more entries for the 2005 event. Luckily, he added more spaces to the firing line since 04. But don’t wait too long.

Also, he has people coming from as far away as Alaska, Texas and Florida. So none of this ‘its too far away’.

UPDATE 2: I forgot to add about the Precision Rifle Clinic being offered by Mr. Gene Econ. He is offering one day for $70 or two days for $100. I’m in for the two-day clinc. I’ll probably need it. Mr. Econ wants at least 10 people for the two-day clinic, so think about it.

All funds from this clinic will be going to the Lancer Memorial Fund, which you can read about on the link. If you don’t want to take the course, but still want to donate to the fund, I’m sure that would be welcome.

Why isn’t this all over the front page?

AKA: Oh, THAT liberal media!

The soldiers are asking Rumsfeld some very hard to answer questions but, for some reason, they don’t want to plaster these ones all over the place like what happened with the planted armor question.

Q: Sir, how do we win the war in the media?

It seems like that is the place where we’re getting beat up more than anybody else? I’ve been here – this is my third tour over here and we’ve done some amazing things. And it seems like the enemy’s Web sites and everything else, they’re all over the media and they love it.

But the thing is everything we did good, no matter if it’s helping a little kid or building a new school, the public affairs sends out the message, but the media doesn’t pick up on it. How do we win the propaganda war?

Very good question.

I would hope Rummy could figure this one out.

I have a suggestion, but hanging members of the media who are treasonous to the Iraqi people from light poles (ie. the AP, AFP and Reuters assholes who seem to get all this cool footage of attacks on military installations from the perspective of the jihadis) would probably prove to be counter-productive.

By Ourselves, For Ourselves: Part 3

Well, hello there!

My apologies for skipping the week between Christmas and New Years. I figured that I had left you with $200-$1000 in stuff to get taken care of in the first two installments, so we could take a week off and get caught up. Also, I write these things on Saturday night. Im sure everyone remembers what that Saturday was and I dont need to go into why I didnt feel like writing that evening.

For those new to this series, I started writing it because 1. I think the gov’t is doing a crappy job in ‘protecting us’ against terrorist attacks. Which is good, because 2. I don’t know if I’d like to live in a country where the government has that much control over the movements and actions of the people.

I believe that Americans do things best when they do things by themselves, for themselves, hence the title.

It would probably be best for newcomers to start at the first part before going on. Make sure you read the comments section. I am only one guy and, while I would like to be able to think of everything, I can’t, and there are some good ideas there too.

Anyway, today were going to talk about putting up a protective perimeter around your shelter (AKA: your house) in times of trouble.

Were going to stick with the same scenario as in the last one: multiple small to medium scale terrorist attacks in and around your home town have knocked out power and water and killed off or injured a number of first responders.

You are hunkered down in your home with your family (wife and/or kids) and are waiting out the storm until order and facilities are restored. You have enough food, water, etc and armaments to make it for a month or so.

Were going to go about ten to fifteen days into the problem and there are lightly armed gangs of approximately ten people or so who are hungry and thirsty running about, going from house to house in your neighborhood looking for food.

LootersBeware.jpg

They are mostly on foot, but a couple of these gangs have managed to keep/get a car up and running and are willing to use it as a breaching ram.

Plausible scenario, agreed? OK then, here we go.

Ignorance in full view

John @ Some Poor Schmuck asks “Does part of the preparation for taking a seat on the Oregon Court of Appeals involve having your brains sucked out and replaced by sawdust?”

My answer; Nope, they just hit you repeatedly over the head until you cry out “Jimmy Carter is a genius!”

The question arose from this ruling by OCA,

In a victory for political protesters, the Oregon Court of Appeals on Wednesday struck down a state law that makes it a crime to disobey a police officer.

The court said the law was unconstitutionally broad because police could use it against people who are lawfully attending a political rally.

While I agree that ‘disobeying a police officer’ is rather vague, when you are at a rally and are told to disperse, you need to disperse, either for your safety or the safety of others.

Living in the protest capitol of the country (seriously, these freaks up here will publically demonstrate for bike lanes!) I am sick and tired of ANSWER and SNOW and others of their ilk trying to shut down portions of the city.

Remember WTO?

When these groups start getting violent and start destroying private property, unless the police have a person on video doing something illegal, the only charge they have at their disposal is ‘failing to disperse/disobeying a police officer’ in order to charge and hold these hooligans.

Oregon PD’s statewide no longer have this tool.

Carry on, anarchists. The state is yours.

Up to her old tricks

California Senator and hopolophobe, Diane Feinstein, has a new bill out and is looking for help in getting it passed.

To dismantle increasingly violent street gangs operating nationwide, U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said Wednesday that she’ll reintroduce a sweeping package of federal laws modeled after those used to combat organized crime.

The proposal would establish a separate class of federal crimes targeting participation in criminal street gangs, just as the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations, or RICO, Act targeted organized crime.

I’m with Mike @ Sworn Enemy on the subject “I wonder what’s buried in this one?”

Keep an eye out on your favorite firearms message boards and pro-gun websites (hopefully, including this one) for more info when it becomes available on what this bill includes.

I can easily see her trying to slip parts of the so called “Assault Weaopns Ban” in through the side door via this bill.

Remember, in 1994 the “AWB” was put through as an ‘anti-gang’ and ‘tough on crime’ bill.

That was why we had such an impossible time stopping it.

We cannot let it happen again. Now is the time for the repealing of gun legislation, not for more.

Happy New Year, Thoughts from the Left

Because, in the mind of the left, all Republicans are hateful bigots, Kos puts up this,

hateonpaper.JPG

And says “Here’s something for your favorite Republican culture warrior — a little gay bashing, a little Europe bashing, and some twisted bible verse to top it all off”

What a loon.

I also found this, linked by either Kos or Atrios or both.

A list of predictions for the 2005 laid out as if being told as history,

What a year 2005 was!

January 5 NewsMax reports that a mosque in Banda Aceh is withholding aid from non-Muslim residents
January 6 Leading bloggers call for an invasion of Indonesia
January 7, 9:04 am MSNBC posts an online poll, Should the U.S. invade Indonesia?
January 7, 9:07 am 95% of the 14,382 respondents to the MSNBC poll say yes
January 8 The New York Post reports the poll results with the headline, AMERICA SEZ: NUKE INDO SCUM

Go read the rest. I’m pretty sure that this guy is a true believer that the media is controlled by the Bush Admin. Though none f them have any proof.

I consider it a loss

I had feard the wosrt and my fears have come true.

I have mentioned here before, just how much talk radio I listen too on a daily basis. Let’s just say over 14 hours a day. 10 hours at work plus an hour on the road and a few more at home while I’m on the PC. I don’t listen to the uber-personalities like Limbaugh or Hannity. I think the biggest host I dial into is Medved, the smartest man on air and then Larry Elder, a very close second for that title. If I’m not listening to talk radio, I’m alseep or watching a DVD.

Just before New Years Day my favorite middle-left talk show host up and took off without any warning or even signing off.

Radio Beat: Wanted: An evening talk host for KIRO-AM

Fred Ebert worked the 1900 to 2200 slot on local KIRO-am. While liberal on more issue than he’d care to admit and a strident Basher of Bush et al, he was intelligent and well spoken. He got his point or topic out quickly and would take on all comers.

Left or right.

A former professor of hard sciences (physics, chemistry, etc), holder of at least 8 patents and CIA consultant, he knew enough about how things take place in the real world to get the blood boiling in members of either side of the aisle.

He was a straight shooter and sharp as a tack. He never attacked with hyperbole, nor did he try to switch topics and put the caller off balance by having to defend a different point as well as the original one.

He also had a segment he would whip out whent he news was slow or he felt in the mood called ‘Stump the Professor’. In over a year of shows, I don’t think I heard him get hung out to dry once, although he said it had happened.

Fred said often that he was a former Republican, but left due to the war in Iraq and the Bush Admins deficit spending. He says he voted a straight libertarian ticket this last time around after having voted for Bush in 2000. I believe him. He rarely, if ever had a kind word for Kerry, or any Democrat in this last year that I had listened to him

But sadly, he is in no way a Libertarian, big or little L. He was for all kinds of government programs and hand out and adamant that government could take care of most things FOR the people (SSI, welfare, gov’t funding of science including stem cell research, etc).

It takes quite a bit for me to get off my ass and dial a phone to argue with someone, but Fred managed to do it twice; the first was when he was going on about ‘How Bush Outsouced the Hunting of Bin Laden at Tora Bora’.

I told him about, and later sent him this link, the words of Col. John Mulholland, Commander, 5th Special Forces Group. You know, the actual guy in charge.

The other was when the topic was about the banning of military recruiters at George Washington University and the government withholding federal funding for doing so.

He did not think the gov’t should be allowed to withold the funds, my main point was that those funds were not entitlements and could be withdrawn for any reason.

In both cases, he told me that we would have to agree to disagree. He was not going to change my mind and I was not going to change his. I hate draws, but he held the power of the disconnect button, so what’s a guy to do?

He will be missed, especially since his time slot is being filled in by KIRO political analyst, Carl Jeffers, who I swear must think he gets paid by the word. Jeffers uses 20 words where 5 are needed, talks over people and a blind man with no fingers and who is having a seizure can hold onto jell-o better than Jeffers can hold down a topic.

Fred Ebert, if you found this, I hate to see you go, but I understand. Tell those goofballs at Kiro to give your slot to someone like Lou Pate and quit screwing around.
