Apologies

My apologies for not making myself available to those who stopped by yesterday as I had promised.

You can blame the neighborhood dipshits who decided that lighting off their firearms in celebration of the New Year was ‘cool’.

Nothing exciting happened (damn compliant bastards) other than three out of eight dingbats were taken to jail on various charges and had their guns taken away.

It wasted my time that morning and I couldn’t get to the computer for a while. That and I have to sleep when the sun comes out or I’m breaking my New Year’s Resolution.

************************

On Friday, I put up this post about local radio. I somehow forgot to include the following bit of info:

I was listening to the replay of the smartest man on radio, Michael Medved (you can listen here), on KRLA Los Angeles.

I heard a commercial from the California Rifle and Pistol Association. It warned people about firing their guns off in the air and I wondered just how many idiots California had, that they had to run commercials telling people that shooing your guns in the air was stupid.

Looks like I got some idiots right here that could have used a commercial.

And a swift kick in the nuts.

The coming of the New Year!

And the coming of the NEW LAWS.

As of the first minute of January 01, 2005, at least two new and very stupid laws took effect in Washington State. One state-wide and one local.

The state-wide law is Washington’s new Minimum Wage, now set @ $7.35, making our low wage earners the highest paid in the nation.

Great, now my Big Mac Meal will cost over $6!

Those who dropped out of high-school or and have little or no job skills are being rewarded for their sloth by the state nanny government.

And the left wonders why half the citizens of the state wanted a Republican for Governeor.

In local news….

If you live or own a business within the city limits of Seattle, YOU ARE NOW REQUIRED BY LAW TO RECYCLE!

Luckily, I live just outside the city limits, but I do work for the company who picks up the trash and recycle for over half of the residences and businesses in the city.

Here is how it works.

All paper, cardboard, aluminum, tin, glass, plastic and yardwaste must be put into your city supplied recycle container.

If there are any of these items in your trash, your container will not be picked up until they are removed. You will be notified of your VIOLATION by an adhesive note left on your container. There will also be a note entered into the city’s computer (by way of my company’s comuter, which are interconnected to the city) so that if the note ‘falls off the can’, you can call to see if that was the reason you were not picked up.

Only warnings will be given in the 2005 calender year.

But starting January 1, 2006, you will get three warning and then a $50 fine. This fine will continue to be issued every pickup (usually 1xweek) until the issue is resolved.

So far, there are no provisions for they city to confiscate your home if you do not pay these fines (like with property tax issues), but just wait, they’ll figure that part out.

And don’t go thinking that you can go and bribe your garbageman to ‘overlook’ your violations!

My drivers will be watched over by city inspectors, who will place recyclable material in various trash cans daily and then wait for the driver to roll up on them.

If the driver does the ‘proper’ proceedure and start to write up a notice, the inspector will roll up to the driver, let him know he ‘passed the test’ and let the driver carry on his route.

If the driver just dumps the container and moves on, the city inspector writes my company a ticket and fines us.

My company is still in negotiations with the driver’s union as to how many fines the driver can collect before he is warned, warned again and then fired.

And I am positive that the union will blame any firings not on the city for their stupid laws or the driver for their lack of work ethic, but on my company. Yay!

And here is the kicker, pulled from the linked article above:

In all, the initiatives could boost the city’s recycling rate by 6.2 percent, according to Seattle Public Utilities. The city’s goal is a 60 percent recycling rate by 2010. Seattle’s rate was 39.7 percent in 2002, the most recent year for which statistics are available.

The city has a goal of 60% recycling rate.

They’re current rate is under 40%.

This and some other new initiatives will boost the city’s recycle rate by just over 6%.

So, even with a new set of laws that include a threat of fines and a pile of trash left on the sidewalk infront of your house, the city will not meet its own goals.

And they knew this going into it.

Count ANY Vote: Part Pyatnadtsat

Part 15 and counting. Informative and educational.

Yay!

To add to the Doc’s post about how the Democrat led King County Board of Elections is refusing to count the votes of our service men and women who, through no fault of their own, and with a large part of the blame that falls on the shoulders of the KCBoE, did not get their ballots here on time.

The local lefites, both on the radio and in the papers, are actually blaming Rumsfeld for this.

How, you ask?

Like this. ‘Because Rumsfeld did not care enough to get the military postal servce sped up so that these ballots could get here on time, he is to blame for the disenfranchisemen of these soldiers.’

Just thought you might like to know.

And now we move on to new business.

Stefan at Sound Politics has been going through election results and has found another King County precinct where some funny business has been going on.

In Precinct 3001, throughout all three counts (first count, machine recount, hand recount) Gregoire kept every single one of her votes.

Rossi, on the other hand, gained one in the machine recount, but then lost two in the hand recount.

The Libertarian candidate also lost one in the hand recount.

And very odd, one undervote was also lost in the last count.

That is the loss of 4 votes in that precinct, none of which is currently accounted for. No one in charge of that precinct or on the county board can say where those four votes went.

Sure, it may be possible that they were all provisional ballots that were finally given to their proper precincts during the hand recount, but there are no records to show the transfer fo any provisional ballots and no one in charge is saying anything.

King County has 2616 precincts. If something like this happened in just 100 of them, we can see how Rossi’s lead could have gone away and Gregoire come out the winner.

But wait, there’s more!

Precinct 3301 is actually MISSING 2 ballots!

Quote from Sound Politics “The King County voter file tells us that 354 citizens voted in Precinct 3301 — 252 Absentee, 85 Polling Place and 17 Provisional. 354 voters cast valid ballots, of which only 352 can be located.”

And they’re not the only ones!

684 King County precincts are missing ballots for at least one voter for a grand total of 1512 missing ballots!.

Fraud or incompetence?

You make the call!

************************

And to clarify and update my stance on Rossi conceeding:

Now that Gregoire has been declared Governor-Elect, and is scheduled to be sworn in on January 12th, the Rossi Crew has only until January 22nd to find a judge who is willing to toss out a sitting Governor.

And after they find a judge with big brass ones they have to be able to prove 130 cases of real fraud. The incompetence pointed out in the above paragraphs will not suffice in court, now that Gregoire has been certified.

I personally do not think that they can do it as any person with a legal degree can tell you that a conspiracy to do something is a hell of a lot more difficult to prove than the actual act. You must first find the crime, then the people who committed the crime AND THEN the evidence that they conspired.

However, in the court of public opinion, the evidence does not need to be that strong.

I want a candidate with a clean face who is not looked at as a whiner. Rossi’s call for a ‘Do-Over’ is doing exactly taht. He is losing (R) votes and not gaining any (D) votes.

Both of which are required to win a recall election.

Once again, the Dems play off their incompetence and win. Hopefully this time, it is only temporary.

Canada responds to the tsunami crisis

In her own “special way.”:http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/ArticleNews/TPStory/LAC/20041230/TSREFUGEE30/TPNational/

I think the person estimating only 5,000 immigrants is delusional, but we shall see.

Am I missing something?

Does this statement by Mahmoud Abbas talk about endorsing state sponsored terrorism? And isn’t that what we’re supposed to be trying to eradicate?

bq. _*Abbas, speaking to The Associated Press, defended a series of recent public appearances with armed gunmen and indicated that he has no plans to disarm the militants anytime soon.*_

bq. _*”When we see them, when we meet them, and when they welcome us, we owe them,” Abbas said. “This always is to protect them from assassination, to protect them from killing, and all these things they are subject to by the Israelis.”*_

Should we be endorsing statehood for an entity that proclaims its intent to support terrorism at the highest “official” levels?

And a little research (and I mean a very little) reveals…….

A few comments about sources, methodologies:

1) The dollar figures come from the MSNBC article mentioned below. They include only what the Governments have pledged, not what private citizens of those countries have pledged.

2) Qatar is the clear winner of the “per capita” game – coming in at over US$15 aid/person. Because their contribution was an order of magnitude greater than any other countries, it made all of the other bars too small to read if I included them. They were also excluded from my calculation of the “average” per capita aid figure, since they were such and extreme outlier (>5 standard deviations from the mean).

3) Population numbers are from the world UN database. Interesting that Taiwan is not in that database, but that the “occupied Palestinian territory” is. But I digress.

4) Japan has announced that it intends to pledge US$ 500 million to the relief effort. This would place them at over $4 per capita spending – the new leader of the non-Qatar pack. I did not make this change, since I wanted all of my numbers to come from the MSNBC research of governmental aid promised.

(click for bigger)

A few observations:

1) The US is well above (almost twice) the average for the countries reported. Twice the average is stingy and mean-minded? Well, maybe we should take a little peek at those below the average, then.

2) Scandanavia has been held up as a model for us to emulate. As you can see, some scandanavian countries are well above the average, while others are significantly below.

3) Some exceedingly wealthy Muslim countries seem to be well below the average. How -stingy- curious is that?

4) Canada, France, and Germany (especially _Germany_) are all well below the average. I suppose France and Germany get a free pass because of their war opposition and anti-Americanism. Canada must get a free pass because everyone knows she is going broke trying to live up to Kyoto.

5) I had to add an extra decimal point to the database for poor Egypt’s contribution to show up on the list.

6) I wonder if it bothers the Guardian columnist I mentioned below that the UK only has a per capita contribution that is 1/3 that of the country she just called mean-minded and stingy? Probably not, because she’s an idiot and the irony would completely escape her.

So, what does it mean? Beats the hell out of me. When people criticize our generosity, it’s usually because we’re not spending as much as they would like, or not spending it on what they would like for us to spend it on. And, refresh my memory again – how many countries came to our aid after Florida got bashed by 4 consecutive hurricanes?

*UPDATE*

A commenter takes umbrage at my conclusion regarding Scandanavian giving. The point was definitely not to belittle the efforts of these nations, and the 2 of the 3 countries the commenter wants to limit Scandanavia to _are_ well above the average. My definition of Scandanavia came from “here.”:http://www.phrasebase.com/countries/index.php?cat=248

The data show that Finland is right at the average, and Sweden is well below average(I didn’t show data for Sweden, but they have pledged US$ 750,000 from a country of 8.9 million – you do the math). So I think the point made is valid, even though I didn’t do a very good job showing you the data supporting my contention. Again, I wasn’t trying to belittle anyone’s efforts, but rather to point out the data behind the “stingy Americans” facade. Well, actually I was trying to belittle the efforts of the rich Muslim countries and France and Germany – but that’s how we “mean-minded” individuals on the right do things, don’t ya know?

A final question – do you think Muslims mind being helped by Christian or atheist infidels?

Damn, Stingy Americans

Go “here”:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6767190/ and look at the “fact file” about 1/3 of the way down the page. This is just the official response of each government or NGO. See how much aid the rich, primarily Muslim countries are giving to the relief effort. Then tell me again how stingy we’re being.

Tim Blair points to an screeching Guardian commentary by “Polly Toynbee”:http://timblair.net/weblog.php?id=P113, wherein dear Polly says that every one on the right is a mean minded xenophobe. I dropped Polly a little note, but it won’t make any difference. Polly’s hatred of GWB and all things “right” is deep and pure – and she certainly won’t let the facts get in the way of a good conservative bashing.

More Washington State

“Madness.”:http://pullonsupermanscape.typepad.com/pull_on_supermans_cape/2004/12/wa_governors_ra_32.html

Absolutely amazing the to watch a US election attempt to be stolen. Manufacture votes, count only the ones you want, and rely on the court system to back you up.

Absolutely shameless that King county sent out absentee ballots to the military 2 weeks late, and then refuses to count them because they missed the deadline.

As far as AK’s strategy of Rossi conceding and fighting on after Gregoire is seated – I just don’t know.
