Bush: Failure

That got your attention, didn’t it?

If, like me, you read more than a few left wing blogs, you will read about their delusion that ‘GWB is trying to bankrupt America!’

They say he is attempting to send the country so far into debt so that he can cancel social programs.

While I am for the cutting off of the government teat, I don’t like the idea of the country being as far in debt as we are.

Which is why I was glad when I saw this news,

U.S. December budget posted surplus

The U.S. government ran a $1 billion budget surplus in December, helped by a rise in corporate tax payments, the Congressional Budget Office said in its latest budget report released on Friday.

The surplus, which compared with an $18 billion deficit in the previous December, helped create a smaller fiscal deficit for the first three months of the 2005 fiscal year, than in the same quarter of the prior year.

When the left finds this news in a couple months, after January and February and March, etc, all post surpluses, I fully expect them to come out with the following stories,

“George W Bush is even a failure at bankrupting America!”

A Very Good Idea

Maybe this method of dealing with the jihadi and Baathist prisoners would make the lefties crying about Gonzales, torture doctrines, etc.

From Dale Franks at the QandO Blog:

My preferred method of dealing with these terror prisoners would be to get two captains and a major together as a tribunal, declare them to be unlawful combatants, and put them in front of a firing squad. Now, maybe, because we’re nice guys, we could let them know that if any of them give us verifiable, useful information, then we’ll commute their sentences, and won’t shoot them. Otherwise, however, it’s a blindfold and a last cigarette for the lot of ’em.

Oh, wait. The left would love to see Bush defeated in Iraq. They think that the use of a feather is ‘torture’.

Nevermind.

Probably Too Much Information

Bruce at Massbackwards found a very interesting story and refrained from making a joke out of it. Aaron at FreeWillBlog also refrained and listed it as ‘Headline of the Day’.

I, however, am not as principled.

In fact, I am going straight to the source and ask a question.

Here is the headline,

Olive Oil May Protect Against Breast Cancer

Here is the e-mail I want to send to Javier Menendez, a research scientist with the Evanston Northwestern Healthcare Research Institute in Illinois.

Dear Sir,

I read the story by Amamnda Gardner about the cancer fighting aspects of Olive Oil.

I am wondering if this treatment works if the oil is spread liberally on the skin of ones spouse? I ask because I definitely do not want my wife to ever have to suffer breast cancer and am willing to do anything necessary in order help her.

Regards

Hmm, even if it they don’t know if this use of olive oil treatment works, maybe I could use their research as a stepping stone to get my own grant to do research?

I always wanted to go back to college.

Like I’ve been saying

maybe some people should be less concerned about civil rights in America, and more concerned about what’s happening in “their own back yard.”:http://politics.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,9115,1386715,00.html

bq. _*With its federal system, the US has at least worked out how best to run an enormous country. In Seattle, where I stayed, you’re as far from the centre of power as Vladivostok is from Moscow. Solidly Democrat, its citizens felt dispossessed after Bush’s re-election. But, as counter-poise, they could elect their own governor and legislature. Bush isn’t Hitler.*_

bq. _*Isn’t it better, though, to think about the country we can do something about: our own? Since the British empire collapsed, the left has been misled into believing that somehow we can change the world morally: a new, ethical imperium (a very different thing from the public’s heartfelt response to the tsunami). But morality begins at home.*_

Cosmic Beauty

machholzPleiades_seip.jpg

The comet, named Macholz, is visible with the naked eye as a faint blur near the constelation Taurus. A pair of binoculars will help show some faint detail. The comet will continue to increase in brightness for the next few weeks, but probably won’t reach the “spectacular” level.

The Happy Hooker

That is my new nickname for Mary Mapes.

“She who would sell out her last ounce of journalistic credibility to get a chance to attack George W Bush” was just too long and not catchy at all.

Laurence has started a list of things mapes can do now that she no longer has employ at CBS.

Go Read.

First up, The Poor Schmuck finds proof of what we all were pretty sure was true,

Some NGOs like Aid India did a wonderful, focussed job, there were many others which were wasting time and money, more interested in brand building and filling up their resume for the next funding season than in actually doing relief work. There is, I have found, as much corruption, politics and inefficiency among NGOs as there is among private-sector companies but while inefficient companies in the private sector are punished by the market, there is no such mechanism to hold NGOs accountable.

Lee at Right Thinking puts it very well,

“Once again the Religion of Peace shows its utter contempt for the lives of Muslims”

And offers this story as proof,

Habib Rizieq Shihab, head of the Islamic Defender’s Front (FPI), said Australian assistance in Aceh could herald the start of an East Timor-style intervention designed to secure independence for the troubled northern province.

The Australian Government insisted yesterday it had no interest in any military involvement in Aceh and played down a threat of confrontation with the growing number of Islamist relief workers also flooding into the area. John Howard, in an interview on global news network CNN, ruled out any involvement by Australian troops in peacekeeping or arming troops on the ground.

The Prime Minister said Australia was not interested in picking sides on Aceh, but was there “as a friend trying to give practical help”.

“We’re not there in a military role, it’s just that our military are there in a humanitarian role,” he said.

But Mr Shihab told The Australian he feared the presence of hundreds of Australian troops in Aceh would corrupt the province’s strict Islamic culture.

The Muslim ‘Leader’ cares more about the ‘Culture’ than about the people that actually make up said ‘Culture’.

And if the Aussies go and pull out at his request, and Muslims in the area start to die of disease, you can be your ass that this ‘Leader’ will blame the west.

Another One Bites the Dust

Over the weekend, there were reports that during an attack on a jihadi/Baathist stronghold in the town of Aaytha (30mi south of Mosul), we accidentally hit the wrong structure, killing anywhere from 5-14 people.

Well, it turns out that we didn’t miss all that badly,

Meanwhile, in a village near the northern city of Mosul, where the U.S. military reported that it had mistakenly dropped a 500-pound bomb on the wrong target Saturday, residents said the Americans actually hit the correct house, killing an insurgent who they said had killed Iraqi security forces.

The residents of Aaytha, 30 miles south of Mosul, said the bomb hit the home of the Numan family, members of the prominent Sunni Muslim Jubori tribe, one of the largest in Iraq. Witnesses said the blast killed 14 members of the family, including 10 women and children. Neighbors said a toddler related to the family was the sole survivor.

Imagine that, a cowardly insurgent, surrounding himself with women and children, hoping they would act as human shields and save his life.

They’re Openly Advocating the Overthrow of the American Government

Can we shoot these black clad losers now?

Anarchist Resistance, on what they would like to see during the inauguration,

This January, let the world see not a display of American Patriotism from the right and American “free speech” from the left but a massive resistance to the latest representation of 200+ years of murder, slavery, greed and genocide that has been the American way from George Washington to George W. Bush. There’s nothing left to salvage in this empire that is the U.S. government. It’s time to bring it down.
