Do me a favor

Stop eating and drinking right now. No matter how hungry you get, no matter how maddening the thirst, don’t do anything to sustain your life. Then, just before you die, please tell “Michael Schiavo”:http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/03/18/schiavo.brain-damaged/ just how peaceful your death was. Especially the bits about who you felt when you went into “kidney failure from the dehydration.”:http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000501.htm

I have a hard time with this case – it’s tragic for all around. Does Michael have an ulterior motive? Who knows? Does Terri have a dedicated family willing to care for her on the chance that her life is worth living? Most definitely. I don’t know who’s right in this mess with regards to her medical condition, but would we be having this discussion if she was born severely handicapped? Are we the Netherlands, where a decision can be made at birth to end a life because of a judgement that it’s a life “not worth living?”:http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/004/983ynlcv.asp At least the babies are euthanized in a painless way, not starved to death. We react in horror to stories of adopted children being mistreated and malnourished, but can apparently accept that starvation is OK for a completely defenseless woman, based on nothing more than heresay?

It’s not that I have a problem with ending the suffering of a terminal patient who can make that decision. But I’m tired of hearing people justify the act by saying that her death will be “peaceful and painless”. It won’t be – it will be horrible and painful and she will die of a state sponsored lack of care – the very definition of cruel and unusual punishment. These are the same people who want to stop capital punishment, but have no problems starving a woman who *might* have some level of consciousness, however minimal. And it’s that word – “might”, that causes all of the problems. There seems to be a legitimate disagreement on her level of mental capacity. We live in a society that will stop the execution of mentally handicapped felons convicted of horrible crimes, but will condone the slow and agonizing death of a brain damaged woman who never harmed anyone. To me, that is madness. If Terri Schiavo must die, then at least do it humanely.

One Big Ass Gun Post

After losing way too much sleep this weekend, I’m thinking I will just tell you about it and some other blogger’s range weekends and get into news and views tomorrow. I’ve got close to a dozen firearms to clean and inspect, so here we go.

As you read on Saturday, I hooked back up with my old friend Jon who wanted to go to the range and fire a pistol he bought from me nearly two years ago but hadn’t shot more than a couple time since.

We spent most of a cold and windy Saturday on the pistol range with his S&W Model 37 (my old backup piece), my S&W Model 14-4, CZ83, Ruger 22/45 and 1911 among others. I’m pretty sure we went through over 700 rounds of pistol ammo, not counting two bricks of 22LR that we put down range.

Unfortunately, I forgot the camera, so no pics of Saturday.

I had already planned on spending Sunday with the Boomershoot rifle (even though my shooting bags haven’t been delivered yet, grrrr) and Jon said he’d like to try out a couple rifles I had handy, so we hit the range again on Sunday. He called early that morning and asked if his sister Jamie could come along. I, of course, said she absolutely could.

Jamie had an older Marlin Glenfield Model 25 that was having extraction problems. I was able to get it 80% reliable, but it really just needs a new extractor, which we ordered that afternoon when we got back to my place.

Since 22LR seemed to be her style, I set her up with my 10/22. Take a look in this picture and you’ll see her starting to build up a pile of brass.

She went through a brick and a half of 22LR in just a few hours and never stopped smiling.

Never let it be said that I don’t know how to make women happy.

Jon brought more ammo for the handguns we’d shot the day before and proceeded to lay waste to bullseyes for most of the morning while I spent some one-on-one time with the Boomershoot rifle.

In the afternoon, he spent some time with the Bushmaster XM-15.

And the SKS and the Boomershoot rifle. He had never shot 100yds with open sights before. I think he picked it up rather quickly and he smoked through more than half of the 5.56 I brought for the day. No worries, I’m selling it soon and I have plenty more at home.

As for me and my practice/ammo test session with the Remington 700 Boomershoot rifle, I did OK and I have made my ammunition decision.

All 5 shot groups at 100yds and a mild improvement from last week. I don’t know why I was pulling them low, but I’ll work on that some more next weekend.

I will be ordering a healthy amount of the PMC 308Win 168gr Sierra MatchKing ammo and a smattering of what Federal Gold Medal 308Win 155gr MatchKing is still on the market for Boomershoot. The PMC has been very consistent even when I haven’t. I hope to have 500 to 600 rounds in my hot little hands by the time I leave for Idaho. I am glad that the PMC ammo is only $16 a box and that my rifle doesn’t demand the uber-expensive stuff.

In defense of the Black Hills 308Win 168gr target in the upper right hand corner, Mother Nature had decided to get all huffy and was throwing 30mph gusts at an angle across the range for a bit, blowing branches off the surrounding trees. I tried to only fire between the gusts, but failed.

I’m down to a handful of that Aussie ball ammo I shot a couple weeks back and a few belts of M80 ball. I hope the ammo I ordered over the weekend gets here by Friday.

BTW, is it sacrilegious to go to the range on Easter? I hope not.

I wasn’t the only one practicing for the Boomershoot this weekend.

Kirk at Fun Turns to Tragedy was testing out his handloads. Despite having to stay up until the wee hours getting them ready, they did quite well.

I am repeating the same line that he is

“Boomershoot is getting close. 38 days till it is time to fly. Everything is under control, just keep repeating that

Benjamin at The Reasonable Nut (who you may notice is now in my links section) also took his Boomershoot Ruger out for some practice and is getting his practice shooting prone by going to the air rifle range.

I’ve never heard the position called the “Come and get like a big funky sex machine” stance. I’ll have to not think that the next time I’m firing prone.

Now, Og the Neanderpundit won’t be going to the Boomershoot this year (although I have offered him a place under my covered position), but over the weekend he gathered up the OgWeapons and set about putting holes in paper with regularity.

“I shot and shot and shot. I ran out of 30-06. I ran out of 7.62×39 (no, not all I have, just all I took to the range) and I shot until I couldn’t wipe the grin off my face. I shot until I hurt. I shot until I was sore.”

Head on over for target pics and pic links.

Finally, I cannot write up a huge post about firearms and the Boomershoot and not link to Joe Huffman, organizer of the event. That would be rude.

Joe is busy getting the explosive mix tested and ready, making sure everything is ready for the attendees and all the while making preparations for his wife’s birthday party, which has to be super special since the Boomershoot is on Mother’s Day.

UPDATE: I don’t know what calendar I was looking at, but Joe has informed me that it was LAST YEARS Boomershoot that was on Mother’s Day, and that he is not likely to be making that mistake again.

Sadly, I will most likely continue to make mistakes like that one, because I’m a goofy bastard.

Happy 50th Barb! It will be my pleasure to meet you in 38 days.

38 DAYS! Where has the time gone?

Sunday Round Up

I’m off to the range again today. This time to play with the Boomershoot rifle some more. I have to make my decision as to what ammo to buy this weekend so I can place the orders.

First up, my apologies to the Carnival of Cordite folks for forgetting until today to link to it. I don’t have a post in there this week, but it is still some good reading.

Next, we have a set of first cousins petitioning the courts to let them get married and getting turned down. The reason I’m linking to it is because these two aren’t from some ‘backasswards red-state’ as the left would like to pen them into, they’re from Pennsylvania.

Also FYI, there is a margarine war going on in Canada. You’d think that in the socialist utopia that is Quebec, the government would have already had this figured out for it’s subjects.

I guess not.

Anyway, try to get yourself out to the range today. They build them for a reason, you know.

The Importance of Mentoring Pt. 2

And a good Sunday to you all. I hope your Saturday was well.

Yesterday I spoke of mentoring and why it should be incorporated into the study plans of pre and post graduate glute students. Today, I want to show you why I think it is so vital.

In addition to my teaching at a multitude of privates universities, I also do my fair share of off campus instruction within the modeling industry. Sometimes going on-location to help a particular photographer or model get the job done.

As you know, I teach our models of tomorrow how to build and show their fine posteriors so that they might have a better career in their chosen field. This takes months and months of hands-on instruction and one-on-one counseling. More often than not, I am kept awake until the wee hours of the morning making sure my students know their course work.

In my post yesterday, I mentioned that I spent most of last week at a new school. Sadly, I was called away in the early part of the week to help in an emergency case of ego adjustment.

Gone Shooting (Again!)

I’m off to the range again today. This time, taking an old friend whom I haven’t seen in a while out for some shock and awe with some of the toys I’ve picked up since the last time we hit the range.

I have some things to write about, and I will do so in short order, but time is currently very short so I will have to leave you with this little tidbit that I overheard on the TV the other day.

The Analog Wife is a Trash TV addict. Especially the ‘Who’s My Baby’s Daddy’ genre of junk in the afternoon.

On one of those types of shows, a woman was chewing on her husband for not making enough money her final comment was as follows:

“Our electricity was turned off and because of you, our children had to sleep in the dark

Yeah. It is no wonder this MENSA member made it to daytime TV.

The Importance of Mentoring

Ahh, Good Day to you all! Professor Booty at the keyboard.

I spent most of last week taking part in an educational review of the brand spanking new school Our Sister of Perpetual ‘Do You Have Some Fries To Go With That Shake’.

I must say, it the study plan proposed by this ground breaking place of glute examination was amazing and something I had only thought of fleetingly. The administrators have devised a plan that requires the graduate students to mentor to the first year student for their entire first two semesters to be able to qualify for graduation.

It seems to work amazingly well.

The facilities are, of course, immaculate. With modern architecture that isn’t too brash or a sore to the eyes and doesn’t distract from the beautiful natural scenery.

They love the environment so much

They are willing to try and kill people.

You’ve heard about ELF and ALF. You’ve probably also heard about the enviro-fascists putting 10 inch spikes into trees so that the loggers chainsaw kicks back and injures them.

But now they have a new trick

Fishing guide Phil Hawkins rows fishermen down the Sandy River for a chance to catch a steelhead.

He says this winter the unusually low water has meant that he’s kept a sharper eye on frothy rapids, exposed rocks and something new.

“I have to worry about packing the right rods, the right flies, the right equipment and food – but never, ever would I dream that I’d have to worry about spikes or nails in the river that would tear my boat up,” says Hawkins.

Nails or spikes – several inches long – have been drilled or pounded into the river’s rocks. In recent weeks, the nails have ripped open two rafts, including Josh Linn’s 16-foot pontoon raft.

Josh pointed to the 30-inch tear: “That’s where the nail went in all the way. It’s a huge gash and it was a scary moment.”

Linn was floating through a dangerous rapid when the nail tore up his boat. But he was lucky and made it to shore where he was able to patch and repair his raft.

So far, no one has been injured beyond any more than getting beaten up in a set of rather nasty rapids and losing their gear.

Thankfully.

But summer is approaching. How many kids are going to be rafting or tubing down these rivers in the coming months? If you said hundreds, you’d be wrong. Think thousands.

I can guarantee you that if this guy has found a couple of these spiked rocks, there are a hundred more out there. These cowardly environmentalists passive-aggressive behavior is going to kill someone this summer.

I just hope that it becomes open season on them shortly afterwards.

He should know better

Atrios writes about the medicaid vote on Thursday. He finishes with this line….

Medicaid is hideously expensive because our health care system is so screwed up.

Which is wrong. He gets a failing grade on this answer.

The correct answer, of course, is:

Medicaid is hideously expensive because it is run by the government.

Nearly Out of His Mind

I say nearly because when Libya’s Deputy Speaker Ahmed Ibrahim was ranting and raving yesterday about a secret US plot to tarnish the Koran by making false copies of it, he slipped in this nugget of truth,

He also accused the United Nations of being the “center of injustice and the cause of the oppression of people around the world.

It shows he is still a little bit sane. Maybe he just wanted some attention?
