They must be doing something right if he is willing to go this wacko
That is why now, after the children’s massacre in Newtown, the absolute last thing the National Rifle Association wants out there in the public domain is ANY images of what happened that tragic day.
But I have a prediction. I believe someone in Newtown, Connecticut – a grieving parent, an upset law enforcement officer, a citizen who has seen enough of this carnage in our country – somebody, someday soon, is going to leak the crime scene photos of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre. And when the American people see what bullets from an assault rifle fired at close range do to a little child’s body, that’s the day the jig will be up for the NRA. It will be the day the debate on gun control will come to an end. There will be nothing left to argue over. It will just be over. And every sane American will demand action.
I have heard rumor that Bowling for Columbine was actually released late. If that is true, think I know why now.
It would seem to me there is a very direct antidote to this sort of emotional appeal. What the NRA should be doing is visiting crime near-victims who saved themselves and their children, or children who saved themselves with guns (their own or a parents), and making a whole series of Oleg Volk http://olegvolk.livejournal.com/ type posters to personify the GOOD that guns can do in stopping bad people.
Simple picture of “normal folks.” Pithy quote. Brief story in smaller print. Have a LOT of them made, with different people, different ages, different details, different guns, different places, different ages, races, sexes, crimes, etc. Start the campaign NOW, or at least collecting the images and stories now. Break the stereotype of old white men, ‘good ‘ol boys”, as being the typical gun owner and NRA member.
I have seen reports that the AR-15 wasn’t even used in Sandy Hook, that it was all handguns. I can’t find verification from any source I would trust however. Anybody have anything on that?
I saw those reports in the news as well, but I’m doubtful they were correct. I do believe, however, the reports that said that the guy didn’t use up his magazines. That he’d ditched mostly full mags for the fuck of it. Like he was in some sort of fantasy.
Not that either of those points matter. If he used an 870, they’d want to ban AR’s. The movie theater killer wounded most of the folks there with a 12ga because his AR jammed on the crappy beta mag he bought.
